The biggest band in the world The Beatles are probably the most famous pop group in the world.On radio stations across the world, a Beatles song is being played every second of every day. The group split up in 1970, but their music is still poplar today. In fact, 1996 was the group’s most successful year as the group released( 发行 ) three new double albums, which sold over 20 million copies, and they made a lot of money.

The original group was made up of 4 yong men, who began playing together in 1959. Three years later, in May 1962, the group signed a contrast( 合同 ) with a record company. The Beatles first single “love me do” ,was released in October 1962. The bands catchy( 易记的 ) tunes and simple love lyrics made them popular immediately. In 1963, the band became the first to have three No.1 singles and two No.1 albums in a row.

By the end of 1963, the Beatles were the most popular group in Europe and America. They sold millions of records, and their supporters copied their hairstyles and clothes. They never expected they would be so famous. During the next two years, Europe and America went crazy for the Beatles. The group played hundreds of wonderful concerts all over the world. In August 1965, they set another record by playing to the largest ever concert audience—about 55,600 people, including many famous film stars and great singers.

From 1966 until 1970, the Beatles released six more albums and all of them went to No.1 in the charts. In 1970, the band split up. Sadly, one member of the band —John Lennon was shot dead outside his department building in New York in December 1980. The remaining three Beatles occasionally( 偶尔 ) release new records.
