Making a decision
What makes decision making so tough is the trade offsof choosing one solution over the other. Often engineerscan come up with impeccable solutions, detailing thestrengths and weaknesses of all solutions, but in the end
cannot make the decision of which is better on their own.One tool that can be helpful in the decision makingprocess is to be organized. Having as much informationpossible about all the alternative solutions will make iteasier to evaluate the product efficiently. Another crucial
tool is to have the objective for the problem andimportant criteria clear in mind. Frequently when workingon a problem, an engineer may get side tracked, so itsimportant to remember the purpose of the solution.

Presenting the product
Details about the product can be givenvisually through sketches. Its important tohave accurate sketches in order to
describe your ideas to technicians,Craftsmen and drafters. Successfulengineers will have to communicate
accurately through written, spoken andgraphical languages in order to developand interpret specifications

Communicating and selling theproduct
Another way of communication is the written report, which may be read by both management and clients. These written reports can vary in formality, but usuallycontain an appropriate cover page, abstract, table ofcontents, body, conclusion and recommendation, and an
appendix. Another common way of communicating thenew product is through an oral presentation whichpresents the information convincingly to the listener. Thekey to a good oral presentation is to be prepared, havegood posture, good eye contact and project your voice
loud and clearly. Its important that the oral presentationgives enough information to get the idea across to thedesired audience but not too much information tobecome overwhelming, and confusing.

Summary
Design is the essential of engineers. Thepurpose of engineering design revolves aroundour natural instincts as human beings to alwaysstrive for more, and that is why engineering is
one of the fastest growing careers. Society willalways strive for more than what is available, pushing engineers, designers, and inventors tocontinuously produce more innovative ideas.Through the engineering design process,
engineers are given the tools and guidelinesneeded to successfully create these innovativeideas.

ETHICS IN ENGINEERINGPROFESSION
Ethics or moralswe regularly use these two termsinterchangeablymeans those habits or customs that arestandards of good conduct or character. To be ethical is to dothe right thing; to consider the well-being of others as equal toyour own; and to act in ways that aim to maximize the good. Tobe ethical is to be righteous, in the sense that our conduct and
character are grounded on principle and a commitment todoing our duty regardless of narrow self-interest. To be moralis to be fair and considerate of others, particularly to showthem the respect we ourselves demand that acknowledgesrights to life, liberty and property. Ethics is a discipline wefreely embrace that regulates our baser instincts so as topromote a harmonious community and thereby reduce conflictand disorder. We expect others to order their behavior so as tonot harm things of value and being ethical is the principalmethod for protecting and sustaining those values. In short, thechoices we make and the habits we maintain as a result shouldbe ethical, for such a life is a good life, one that enhances ourhappiness and promotes the good of society.
