Before Islam there was a tradition known as “ظهار” which was that a man would say to his wife “You

are to me like the back of my mother” Meaning forever I shall never ever be intimate with you, you are

unlawful for me just like my mother is unlawful on me.

seeking ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and she came to the Prophet (.r.a) خله he said these words to his wife ,(.r.a) اوس نب صامت

a solution and the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص in accordance to the tradition he said that طالق is in effect because he has

declared ظهار, so if he has declared ظهار you're no longer his wife, it's finished.

But this lady was extremely worried that if this means divorce then what about me and what about my

children and what about my family there should be a way out of this. She was talking to the Prophet

لح :seeking a solution however Allah says ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص كه ا هه تحشتح هللاي - She was complaining to Allah.

This is so big that a person seeks solutions to his problems from people, he is discussing with them

asking them for an answer, seeking a solution from them but he can complain only to who? Allah

(s.w.t.) because Allah alone is the controller of all affairs, He is the owner of His treasures, He is the

remover of difficulties and He alone can make the best ways out for us when we are in difficulty.

Really people do not have solutions to our problem. They don't. Even the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, did he have an

answer for this lady, for this woman? He didn't! He couldn't help her because there was no law

concerning this issue.

Now what happened, Allah (s.w.t.) made a way out for this woman. لح كه ا هه تحشتح هللاي - She was complaining

of her worries her fears her hurt due to who? To Allah (s.w.t.) that Allah should help her out of this and

ـه الليح ع وح ا يحسمح حاورحكمح

حت - Meaning whatever conversation was taking place between the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and خله,

Allah was hearing that conversation.

ح ني ـهح ا ههيع الليح ي سح بحصه – Allah mentions two names over here to assure us that when we call upon Him then He

hears us. When we are in difficulty He sees, He knows our situation, our state of affairs is before Him.

So the one who hears us and the one who sees us, the one who knows our condition, hears our pleas then

what solution do you think will He present when He is the owner; بي رضه رحال ح اته وح محاوح السيح

Aisha (r.a.), she said: “Praise is to Allah Whose hearing encompasses all voices. The woman who

disputed concerning her husband (the-Mujadilah), she came to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص when I was sitting in a

corner of the house,…. [and the house of prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was not that big by the way]…. and she

complained about her husband, but I did not hear what she said. And Allah revealed these ayaat that

Allah has heard her.

This shows us firstly that a discussion like this should happen in a softer voice first of all that when a

woman is complaining about her husband seeking a solution to the abuse that he has committed against

her or to the disagreement that she has with him, how is it that she should talk about this issue? By

screaming and by yelling? By raising her voice? By creating a scene? No. We see that this lady خله

Page 3: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

(r.a.), how calm she is and how quietly she was discussing her problem with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص that Aisha

(r.a.) sitting in the same house in the same room, she didn't hear, she didn't know what was going on.

And remember that the more calm and composed a person is the better they can communicate their

concerns.

But generally how is it that we complain? So negatively and so loudly that even those who don't need to

know about the problems come to know about the problems. Remember when it comes to family

problems, a problem that may exist between a husband and wife, it's necessary that they should be

solved by the husband and wife themselves. And if the matter has become aggravated, it so severe and

so difficult that the two cannot see eye to eye and they cannot solve the problem themselves then when

they go to a third party, who should it be? Every friend and every neighbor in every and and every

grandparent and relative? No. Who should it be? One person; the person who can actually help, not

that every friend's house we go to we start talking about our husband and his problems and our in-laws

and their problems. No, discuss, seek a solution if necessary but with who? Those who can actually help

you, who will actually advise you and then do so in a way that is quiet, meaning don't publicize your

issue.

Many times what happens; a problem is this little and it's blown out of proportion, literally blown out of

proportion. Why? Just to seek attention and to look like a victim and to appear to be so innocent so that

people take pity and immediately everybody turns against the other party and then we can have what we

desire. And also remember that most people, what we learned from this incident is that most people

who do listen to your complaints also, what can they do? They can just say “Ahan, I'm sorry about that,

that is so sad” That's all they can say. Can they change the heart of the person who's abusing you? No.

Can they go and fix your situation? Can they pull you out of it? No. How long it takes even after a

divorce what happens; people are still stuck, things don't get clear immediately.

So the fact is that people cannot really provide solutions to us. We can go and discuss with them but

real Shikwa should be to who? To Allah - لح كه ا هه تحشتح هللاي , so complain to Allah before you complain to

people. And remember when we complain to people, the more the problem spread the worse the

situation becomes. And you see over here Allah has preserved this in the Quran a lesson for all women

because there are many times when a woman finds herself as a Mujadilah right, fighting arguing

disputing concerning her rights with who? With her husband or with her children or with her family she

says something with the husband wants something else. So in this situation what can you do?

لح كه ا هه تحشتح هللاي - Complain to Allah that “O Allah You, You solve this problem for me”.

You know many times women struggle concerning halal income that the husband doesn't agree. What is

she meant to do? Go tell the whole world “My husband has this job and my husband has agreed to buy a

house on mortgage and now I'm stuck with it” Tell the whole world? No, don't tell other people. There's

no need to share this with your friends. No need to tell them. And by the way we also never need to ask

other people about how they have bought their houses. This is invading other people's privacy. We

don't need to ask them “So what kind of mortgage did you take and how did you afford this”. We don't

need to do that and when a woman is struggling with this issue or any issue then what can she do? Can

she change the mind of her husband? If you fight with him argues with him every day every day, what

does that lead to? Constant tension in the House and what does he say “this is Alhuda of yours by the

way, this Quran that you've been studying, stop it already, I've had enough, you are becoming an

extremist”.

You want a change in your life, it's difficult to bring it, complain to Allah, ask Him. Ask Him to bring

the solution to you, to open the door for you just as Allah opened the door for this lady. Allah revealed:

م :2 ه اته هحميحا هنيح أ م ميح ه ائه سح

[to separate] from their wives - they are not [consequently] their mothers.....

You say that she is like your mother, she doesn't become your mother.

....Their mothers are none but those who gave birth to them. And indeed, they are saying an

objectionable statement and a falsehood. But indeed, Allah is Pardoning and Forgiving.

Meaning if they repent then Allah too will forgive them.

3: And those who pronounce ظهار from their wives and then [wish to] go back on what they said

- then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one another.....

ارہ .a penalty for who? For the husband. For what? for what he said - کفي

....That is what you are admonished thereby;.....

Meaning you are not just being advised you have to pay the penalty also.

....and Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

4: And he who does not find [a slave] - ....

Like today, you can’t find a slave to set free.

....then a fast for two months consecutively....

Without a break of a single day! Can you imagine Ramadan is about for twenty nine or thirty days and

it's a big deal. Women do get a break in the middle but men don't. So imagine that is doubled. And if

one fast is missed then he has to start all over again; two months consecutively.

.....before they touch one another; and he who is unable - then the feeding of sixty poor persons....

Meaning a person tries several times to fast for two months in a row and he is not able to then what's the

other option? He can feed sixty poor people full meals.

Page 5: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

....That is for you to believe [completely] in Allah and His Messenger; and those are the limits [set

by] Allah. And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.

All of this for what purpose? To discipline the tongue! All of this for the purpose of disciplining the

tongue because the wrong use of the tongue in marriage is very, very detrimental.

Imagine a man says this statement and he has to pay so much money or fast so many fasts or feed so

many people, why? For one statement because how many times is it that people are abused in marriage

how? Through words; that this threat is ever hanging on the head of the woman “If you don't do this I'll

divorce you, I’ll divorce you, I’ll divorce you”, a threat constantly.

And women also sometimes they use their tongues abusing their husbands. So we have to be careful.

These are all the consequences of what? The wrong use of the tongue!

Now remember that pronouncing ظهار does not affect the marriage status at all, the two are still married,

no divorce happens but it is a major sin and therefore the man who says it is penalized.

Allah says:

5: Indeed, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger....

Meaning they disregard the command of Allah, they do not follow it, they:

....are abased as those before them were abased. And We have certainly sent down verses of clear

evidence. And for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment.

Rejecting the command of Allah, disregarding it, belittling it, not acting upon it, halal is clear haram

honest clear a person still opposes, this is a cause of humiliation in this world and the hereafter.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

ي“ مرهالحفح أ ح خح ح مح ار عح غح الصيح ة وح

ليح ههلح الذي ج وح

The one who opposes my command, my matter, my instruction, then ةليح humiliation and abasement will ,ذه

be stuck to him”.

Meaning that such a person will certainly be humiliated and debased in this life and in the hereafter; the

one who opposes the way of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

Many times we complain “O people don't respect us, my family doesn't respect, me my children don't

respect me, my in-laws don't respect me, I'm nothing in the eyes of my people, I', so humiliated, they

have no respect for me whatsoever”. Then we need to check ourselves.

Immediately check yourself:

Where is it that I am opposing the command of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

Where is it that I am opposing the command of Allah

Page 6: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Do I honor the command of Allah by obeying it

And if I don't honour the command of Allah by obeying it then how do I expect that I should be

deserving of honour? What kind of honour do I expect?

6: On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all and inform them of what they did. Allah had

enumerated it, while they forgot it; .... هللاي سه وححن وح اه هللاي حصح

over all things, Witness.

You see a person keeps sinning and forgetting, Allah does not forget. Allah does not forget. So what is

necessary? That we think about our actions, we think about our statements, we take account of what

we're saying and what we're doing. You see one statement that a man utters, what a big penalty for it.

Imagine! And this statement by the way has no effect on the marriage in the sense that it doesn't cause

divorce but still look at the consequences. And what do we learn? That other statements also, other

actions also, they can have very serious effects. So what is necessary? We remember our sins and we

recall them and we acknowledge them and we cry before Allah for committing those sins and we ask

Allah to forgive us for those sins that we are asking forgiveness for and also those sins that we have

forgotten because Allah does not forget the sins.

7: Have you not considered that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth?

There is in no private conversation of three but that He is the fourth of them, .....

There is no more private conversation being held between how many people? Three people except that

Allah is the fourth of them meaning a private conversation is never private, it's never private, Allah is

always a witness. Allah knows what's going on, what is being privately whispered and secretly

communicated.

....nor are there five but that He is the sixth of them - and no less than that and no more except

that He is with them [in knowledge] wherever they are.....

And on the Day of Judgment what will happen? Everything will be exposed.

ت ح شهحف ن ا الصي ذح ا ه !They’ll be publicized (At-Takweer – 10) وح

....Then He will inform them of what they did, on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allah is, of all

things, Knowing.

8: Have you not considered those who were forbidden from private conversation, then they

return to that which they were forbidden and converse among themselves about sin and

aggression and disobedience to the Messenger?....

These are the hypocrites because they would talk to each other quietly, secretly and when they would do

that they would talk about these kind of things; sinning, aggression against people, disobeying the

Prophets ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

Page 7: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

....And when they come to you, they greet you with that [word] by which Allah does not greet you

and say among themselves, "Why does Allah not punish us for what we say?"....

Meaning we must be right.

....Sufficient for them is Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the destination.

This is about the ahlulkitaab.

1Aisha (r.a.) said that once some jews came to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and they said:

“Abu'l-Qasim, as-Sam-u-'Alaikum”

Meaning they would not even call him Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, them they wouldn't even say messenger of

Allah. What would they say? “Abul-Qasim”.

And they said “As-Sam-u-'Alaikum” meaning death to be on you, may you die. And notice how they

changed “Assalam” to “As-Sam” and we have to be very careful about how we are saying “As-salam-u-

Alaikum” because sometimes we change it completely. We're just saying it in that way because it

sounds nice or it's just more fashionable or everybody says it like that. We need to say salaam properly

because the meaning can change.

So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said “wa-alaikum” and Aisha (r.a.) was there and she heard what happened so she

responded and she said: And may the لنة also be on you and ذلية and she went on and on basically.

So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said: “O Aisha do not use harsh words.”

She said: “didn’t you hear what they said”

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said: “Did I not respond to them when they said that. I just said to them wa-alaikum

“and you too” “may it be on you as well”.

So we see that they used to greet the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص like that and enemies who openly display friendship

but inside they hate you, this is how they try to hurt you.

نا :9 نيح أ مح ذهحا اليح يي

O you who have believed, when you converse privately, do not converse.... يح أ ح

about sin and aggression and disobedience to the Messenger....

Meaning private conversation should not be about sin against Allah, aggression against people,

disobedience of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

....but converse about righteousness and piety. And fear Allah, to whom you will be gathered.

Because this fear rectifies our actions and behaviours.

10: Private conversation is only from Satan that he may grieve those who have believed, ....

Because those who are excluded from these private conversations how do they feel? Left out and sad!

....but he will not harm them at all except by permission of Allah. And upon Allah let the believers

rely.

So even if someone is whispering excluding you do not worry because they cannot hurt you without the

will of Allah.

2The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“When you are three persons sitting together, then no two of you should hold secret counsel excluding

the third person until you are with some other people too, for that would grieve him”.

Don't do that. Why? Because the third person is going to feel bad about it, it's going to make him feel

sad. But when you are with more people, meaning if there is a crowd and there two people whisper to

each other because it's necessary then that is OK.

But in general we see that this is something that's not liked. Why should we whisper to each other?

Some people have a habit of this. Everything has to be said so secretly; top secret. Really? The whole

world is not after you. So we need to be careful about this because it hurts the feelings of other people

and everything doesn't need to be a secret.

11: O you who have believed, when you are told, "Space yourselves" in assemblies, then make

space; Allah will make space for you.....

How do you “space yourself”? By gathering yourself together so that you can make space for someone

else. When you will do that Allah will make space for you.

....And when you are told, "Arise," then arise; ....

Meaning if you're asked to sit somewhere else, move from your spot for better organization purposes,

don't get offended over there; arise.

Here the etiquette of sitting in a gathering is taught. And what is that? That you must make space for

other people and before that we have to learn to fill gaps also, right? So fill in this gap please,

somebody. But when you fill it up, don't leave a gap where you are because then somebody else will

2 [5926:البخاریصحيح ] تتلطوا بالناس أجل أن يزنه قال النب صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا كنتم ثلثة فل ي ت ناجى رجلن دون الخر حت

Juzz # 28 2015 فهم القرأ ن

Page 9 ربنا تقبل منا

have to come and fill that gap, OK. Somebody come please and fill this gap. So first fill in the gap and

secondly if the space becomes tight, meaning it gets crowded, there is a lot of people and more are

coming in then what should be done? What should be done? Make space for other people. And when

we fill in gaps, let's not do it while making other people feel uncomfortable and tight. And this is

something we need to remember when we are sitting in a gathering and also when we are praying in a

masjid.

So if you're tight, you can sit relaxed like one person can sit on the chair, Ok. Because you see if we're

not sitting comfortably can we focus on what we're doing? No. And if there's so many gaps between us

then who will come? Shaitan will come. So both things we need to remember; fill in the gaps and also

make space, accommodate other people, welcome other people in.

Now generally what happens is that in a crowd when we're sitting, what do we like? A spot next to us

that is free so that in case I want to put my feet up or I need to put my bag and you don't know who's

going to come and sit next to you, so just make sure that you go and sit in a place where there's five

empty seats around you and on one seat you put one bag on another seat you put another bag. We try to

do that. What does Allah say to us? Gather yourself together so that more people can be closer to you

because when people are in a عةامج then what happens? This is something that Allah (s.w.t.) also likes.

Groups of angels go around in the look for gatherings where Allah is being remembered. But if they're

trying to remember Allah but Shaitan is also leading them astray because there are so many spaces in the

middle, then what will happen? Anyway! So summery is what? That when we have to make space for

other people, let us make space for them.

And do not sit in a way so as to bother people either. And the thing is that we need to make room in our

heart because if the heart is tight then we will be unhappy even if there's five spaces around us.

3The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص cursed the one who sat in the middle of a circle.

Meaning somewhere where he should not be sitting as if sitting in a different spot away from everybody

in order to draw extra attention. So sitting in the middle….

4The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“No person should ask another person to stand at his place and then he should himself sit there”.

Meaning don't go anywhere and tell somebody please get up from here, remove them and then take their

spot. This is something that's not correct but he should simply say

“make room and accommodate”.

So sometimes you go to the masjid and you want to find a good comfortable spot for yourself and you

see the first two three rows are full but you see a small gap there, don't go there and tell a child “move

3 [8789:سنن ابی داود] .لعن من جلس وسط اللقة -صلى اهلل عليه وسلم-أن رسول الله

from here” because sometimes we move children back and what happens when they're sent to the back

rows? Their friends come and then they have to go play also. So where the children are supposed to be

technically? Between the rows of men and women, so in the middle, why? So that they also learn to

pray.

What happens is we put children at the back and when they're put at the back then they don't pray. What

do they do then? Play and playing is fine, it is OK but there is a time for everything. I mean after a

child has reached the age of seven they should be told to pray. So if a child is nine years old, ten years

old and they're coming to the masjid not even praying a single rakah, this is not correct.

5The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص also said:

“A person is most deserving of sitting in his seat.....”

Meaning if a person has a particular seat where he generally sits, he is most deserving of it and

especially if he came and sat there first he is most deserving of it.

“....Even if he got up from it and returned he still more deserving of it”.

Meaning sometimes it happens that a person is sitting somewhere or for example a person was praying

somewhere in the masjid and what happens? They leave their bag and they have to quickly go make

wudhu and when they come back they can’t find their bag and their spot is also gone and even though

the prayer had not begun yet but still people take over their spot. This is something that's incorrect. So

do not sit in someone else's spot and don't take their seat either.

6The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص Allah said:

“When one of you goes to a gathering and space is made for him then he should sit there for it is

something that Allah has honoured him with and his Muslim brother has also honoured him with it. If

space is not made for him that he should look where there is space and he should go and sit there”.

Because sometimes what happens we go somewhere, people make space for us we say no, no, no, thank

you, thank you. There are giving us honour but we don't accept it.

Or sometimes what happens we go somewhere, nobody makes space for us, we get offended. So what

should be done? If somebody makes space for you accept it and if they don't then don't disturb them,

don't get offended over there because otherwise this will disturb good relations.

....Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by

degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

So be considerate and if you really want an honor, it is not in people getting up for you and leaving their

spots for you and opening doors for you, true honor is with the Iman and ilm and then amal on the ilm.

The greater the iman of a person the greater his ilm nafay, the stronger his action, the more Allah (s.w.t.)

will also raise him.

O you who have believed, when you [wish to] privately consult the.... يح أ ح

Messenger, present before your consultation a charity. That is better for you and purer. But if you

find not [the means] - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

You see the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, how lovely it would be to talk to him. This lady came and asked the Prophet

about her matter. So imagine now everybody wanted private conversation, private time with the ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص but he had much greater responsibilities also so the believers were told that if you want

time with him exclusive time then you must give back to the community. How? You have to give

sadaqah. And the purpose was basically to teach people, later on this was abrogated. The purpose was

that be considerate when you're taking someone's private time. Don't go on talking to them for an hour,

hour and a half, they have other things to do also.

Ali (r.a.) was the first one who acted upon this ayah and he was very proud about this because he had a

particular issue he had to discuss with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص so he gave sadaqah and then he discussed with

the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

However the majority of the sahabah, they were hesitant they got scared, they thought maybe they

weren't allowed to do this anymore. So Allah says:

13: Have you feared to present before your consultation charities? ....

Meaning what happened, why are you so scared? This is just a sadaqah and you should be giving

sadaqah anyway. Generally what happens, as long as something is free we show willingness but as soon

as we have to pay then we change our minds.

....Then when you do not and Allah has forgiven you, then [at least] establish prayer and give

zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger....

And this ayah is abrogating the previous.

....And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

14: Have you not considered those who make allies of a people with whom Allah has become

angry?....

This is the hypocrites; befriending the yahood because like minded people come together.

whatever is on the earth exalts Allah, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Again Allah’s tasbeeh is mentioned.

7The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“Some words that are repeated are such that the one who says them is never ever deprived.

[What are they?]

له ا ل هللا وهللا أ كرب ،واحلمد هلل ،حبسان هللا ول ا

The one who says these words then he is never ever deprived. How many times does he have to say

them?

One hundred times!

So any time some deprivation in this life bothers you, do tasbeeh, Allah will fill you with contentment.

2: It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their

homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their

fortresses would protect them from Allah; but [the decree of] Allah came upon them from where

they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by

their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.

We learned that in Medina there were several Jewish tribes when the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص migrated there. One

particular tribe, the Banu Nazir, initially they had a pact with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and with the Muslims

binding upon them to side with the Muslims and not be treacherous. And part of the treaty was also that

7 [875:صحيح االدب املفرد] "اهلل، والمد هلل، وال إله إال اهلل واهلل أكرب مائة مرة سبحان: معقبات ال خييب قائلهن

if people of Medina, they happen to commit an accidental murder then the blood money is going to be

shared by everybody. So what happened; instead of abiding by this contract, by this treaty, they

attempted to kill the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص when he went to them in order to ask them to contribute in the blood

money that the Muslims had to pay. The circumstances that basically lead to a siege where these Banu

Nazir, they had to lock themselves up in their fortresses and eventually they were expelled from the city

and when they were expelled from the city they were allowed to take with them whatever they wanted.

So what did they do? They took even the door frames and the window frames of their houses. They

destroyed their houses, emptied their own houses. Allah says; take a lesson oh people of vision, oh

people who see take lesson from this. What is the lesson? That Allah (s.w.t.) gives people many

blessings but if a person is continuously ungrateful using the blessings against Allah and His messenger

and especially opposes the Deen then Allah will take revenge from him in a way that is very subtle and

unknowingly without even a person's control those blessings will be taken away from him.

We see over here that the Banu Nazir were established in Medina, living there for many many years for

decades and they had fortresses, strong houses, strong structures and buildings, but what happened?

Everything was taken away from them. When? When they opposed Allah, when they left the deen.

What happens is that we leave the deen for the sake of the Dunya. So we lose the deen and Allah takes

dunya as well. So a person is left with nothing; no Deen and No Dunya.

These people had the scripture, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص came to them but they rejected the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

Apparently they made a pact with him but behind him they tried to hurt him so Allah took away their

populated homes.

Can you imagine your own house, breaking it? Can you imagine taking everything out? Remember that

as Muslims our “izzah” is with the Deen our glory is with the Deen our comfort is with the deen. It

shouldn't be that when things are easy we follow the deen and as soon as things get difficult we leave the

deen that as Ramadan goes our deen also goes. As Fahmul quran comes to an end, Quran is also closed

and put away. No, not at all. Quran is for life. It is for life. Its recitation, connection with the Qur'an

should be a conscious, regular, deliberate connection for which a person has to put an effort. And

remember that he who hold onto the dunya ultimately he will lose but the person who holds on to the

Quran and sunnah, he shall remain guided.

Allah says:

3: And if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this]

world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.

Allah’s will was that they be exiled at this point and later on they should be punished and that is what

happened, later on the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص also conquered Khyber.

5: Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks - it was by

permission of Allah and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient.

You see ةش ةش that is mention over here and لهينح ةش is also a name and لهينح is basically fresh lush healthy date لهينح

palm tree and the believer is also like a date palm tree. And what happened was that during the siege the

Muslims, they had to cut down some of the date palm trees. Why? Because the orchards they naturally

protected the fortresses from the sides so they had to cut down some of the trees first of all in order to

weaken the hearts of the Banu Nazir because these trees were like their most precious belongings, these

trees were hundreds of years old some of them and it takes many years for a date palm tree to be at the

age where it produces fruit. So when these trees were cut down what happened? The hearts of the Banu

Nazir, they sank, they became weak and eventually the Muslims were able to launch a proper assault on

them and eventually the Banu Nazir, they surrendered. But you can imagine there was so much noise

over this that “O’ Muslims they cut down date palm trees”.

Well the Banu Nazir were trying to kill the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, that was not a problem? And it happens today

also that a Muslim makes one mistake and it's not even a mistake but it's blown out of proportion. So

Allah defends the Muslims over here.

6: And what Allah restored [of property] to His Messenger from them - you did not spur for it

[in an expedition] any horses or camels, but Allah gives His messengers power over whom He

wills, and Allah is over all things competent.

So eventually when the Banu Nazir were expelled, their properties that they left behind, of course they

could not take their land with them, they could not take their trees with them, if they could they would

do that as well but they couldn't so they had to leave it behind and this fell into the hands of the Muslims

but since this was a different kind of gain and this is called “fai” and the law concerning it was also

different from “ghanimah”.

“Ghanimah” is that which is obtained in the battlefield field, “Fai” was something that was a result of

the enemy's surrender.

7: And what Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allah and

for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the [stranded] traveler - so that it

will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you.....

Because you see “ghanimah” would be distributed amongst those who participated in the battle, large

portions would be given to them. But what about those who could not go to battle who were weak? So

Allah says that now this “fai” is not going to go to you, it's going to go to the entire community

otherwise the wealth will be concentrated with just a few people.

....And whatever the Messenger has given you - .... ا انتح نه فح عح

حاك ا نح مح ذوه وحح فل الريح

....take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in

penalty.

Page 17: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Any command the messenger gives you take it. Not just the Quran but anything besides that also, what

should you do? Obey the messenger because it's coming from the messenger. Allah is telling us accept

from the messenger. And those who do not do so; دهـهح هحنيح الليح ابه ا ه

قح ه د ال - Allah is severe and penalty the

punishment is severe.

Why the punishment for disobeying the prophet? Is there a punishment for disobeying parents? Is

there? Yes, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that Allah has forbidden disobedience to mothers. We learn about the

people of our A’araaf that how some people will be prevented from entering Jannah. Why? Because on

the one hand they did great works like jihad and on the other hand they disobeyed their parents so their

matter will be deferred. You understand? Their matter will be delayed. So if disobeying parents is a

sin, what do you think about disobeying the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, is his status not greater than that of our

parents? So disobeying the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is not something small.

8The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“If I forbid you to do something keep away from it and if I order you to do something then do of it as

much as you can”.

The “fai” meaning this particular booty that was acquired Allah says this is :

8: For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking

bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a

share]. Those are the truthful.

Allah calls them truthful and the hypocrites, what are they called? Liars!

9: And [also for] those who were settled in al-Madinah and [adopted] the faith before them....

Meaning some for the Ansaar also; so the Muhaajireen and the Ansaar.

....They love those who emigrated to them....

Allah is praising the onslaught over here. The people of Medina and the Muslims of Medina, the Ansaar,

they love those who emigrated to them:

....and find not any want in their breasts of what the emigrants were given....

Meaning if the muhajiroon are given something the Ansaar don’t mind. Does it ever happen with us that

somebody is given a gift and we are not given? How do we feel? Extremely angry and offended and

look at the Ansaar…. because they had their homes in Medina right and the Muhajiroon had left

everything in Makkah, they have come empty hand and the Ansaar have shared their wealth with them

8 [8977:صحيح البخاري] منه ما استطعتم إذا ن هيتكم عن شيء فاجتنبوه وإذا أمرتكم بأمر فأتوا

Page 18: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Page 18 ربنا تقبل منا

but of course when somebody is sharing with you it's not the same as having something of your own,

isn't it? So this is the time when the Muhajiroon were given and Allah praises the Ansaar that they

didnot mind at all. And instead what do they do?

....but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation....

Meaning the Ansaar are not millionaires, they themselves are in need but when it comes to their need

and the need of the Muhajiroon, who is it that they give preference to? To the Muhajiroon. This is deen

that one sacrifices by leaving his home and the other sacrifices by giving his home and by preferring

others over oneself. And without this feeling, remember, this feeling of mutual love mutual support;

Islam, how will it spread? Our efforts for the deen, how will they prosper? This kind of love and

bonding is necessary sacrificing for each other. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص also sacrificed what he needed for

others and there are so many examples, his life is a testament to that. If he wanted he could have lived a

comfortable life with Khadija (r.a.), you know, with his family he could have.

9We learned that a woman once brought “ ةش دح this is reported in sahih Bukhari. A woman once brought ”بهرب

ةش “ دح it's basically a square piece of cloth having a very beautiful edging and she said that: “Ya Rasul ”بهرب

Allah I have woven this with my hands for you to wear”.

This shows how the sahabiyat also showed their love and support for the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص took it as he was in need of it and he came to us ( the sahabah are saying) he came to

us wearing it and he was wearing it as a waist sheet. Meaning he had worn it as an “Ezar” as a lower

garment.

One man, he said: “Ya Rasool Allah this is so beautiful, give it to me please”.

And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص agreed to give it to him. He sat with the sahabah for some time and then when he

returned home he folded that waist sheet and he sent it to that man even though he was in need of it.

So the people said to that man: “Why did you do that? Why did you ask the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص for that

Shawl? You knew that he was in need of it and you know that he would never ever turn anybody's

request down so why did you ask him? You shouldn’t have asked him”.

And he said: “By Allah I only asked him so that it would be my shroud when I die”.

He was also justified. He wanted that when he dies and he's buried, he's buried in a garment that the

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص once upon a time worn. That's what he wanted for himself but at the same time the

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was in need.

So many times it happens that people ask you for something and they don't know what you're going

through, they don't know what you're going through. It is just your test over there that what do you do.

Do you prefer yourself or do you prefer the other person? Do you sacrifice at that time for the other

person? Do you consider the needs of others greater than your needs?

So if someone asks us for what we need do not refuse as much as possible, as much as possible. And

you know sometimes it's not big things, it's just water right before the time of Sahoor is going to end,

there's a little bit water left in the jug, either you pour it or they pour it, either you drink it or they drink

it. So you are in need of it, they are also in need oof it. A selfish person will say that “I need it, I get

really thirsty, I didn't get to drink enough water” but a giving person will say “Allah will take care of me

and I will give to him”. Allah is praising this quality of the Sahabah.

You see the dua that is mentioned here that “O’ Allah forgive us and also forgive those believers who

became Muslim before us, who did good before us and don't let there be in our hearts any resentment

any bad feeling for another believer”.

When we think of people of Iman we think of sahabah; the righteous knowledgeable, very righteous

people, naturally you will have love for them. Why? Because you don't know them, You haven't met

them. If you have met with them and you sat with them and you lived with them then because they are

human beings, there would be things that you would get annoyed by. The real test is what? The people

that you are living with! نا نيح أ مح ذه all those believers that you are living with that we are working - اليح

with that we are studying with; Do we have rancour for them? Do we have resentment for them? Do

we have ill feelings in our hearts for them?

You see any person that irritates you and there are people who irritate you, annoy you that you just see

them and it's just that their attitude their behavior or their style of work or their style of speech, it just

drives you crazy. It's possible. But if they are believers then we should not have this resentment in our

heart for them. Any person that makes you upset make dua “O’ Allah make space for this person in my

heart for they are a believer, he's a believer, she's a believer, make space in my heart for them, make my

heart so spacious that I can accept this person”.

You see some relations, you have to accept them. If you're a boss somewhere and there are people

working for you, you don't like them. Can you fire them? Yeah, you can fire them. You can say

“You're fired, I don't like you go away”. But can you fire your brothers and sisters? “You're fired from

being my siblings” can you do that? You can't! Can you fire your in-laws? You can't! Can you fire

your cousins? You can’t! You can't do that, they're part of your life, you can't eliminate them from your

life. This is a test - ونح تحصربهح ?Right .أ

So for that we need to make dua also and what a beautiful dua Allah teaches us in the Quran that

11: Have you not considered those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers who have

disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, "If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you,

and we will not obey, in regard to you, anyone - ever; and if you are fought, we will surely aid

you." But Allah testifies that they are liars.

These people are not sincere to Allah, they are not loyal to Him and they are not loyal to His messenger

then such a person, his loyalty is for nobody even those whom he says that they are his friends.

This is basically about Abdullah Bin Obai who went and told the Banu Nazir that stay here. You don't

need to go anywhere because initially Banu Nazir thought you know what, Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is serious

we should go. But what happened, Abdullah Bin Obai went to them and he said stay, you don't need to

go you have my support, I'm with you, I’ve got you covered. And then what happened? When they

were in need Abdullah Bin Obai was nowhere to be found. He didn't show up at all.

Allah says:

12: If they are expelled, they will not leave with them, and if they are fought, they will not aid

them. And [even] if they should aid them, they will surely turn their backs; then [thereafter] they

will not be aided.

And this is the reality of fake friends, false lovers who say “Oh I'll die for you” Really? Nobody's going

to die for you.

Meaning they are more afraid of you than they are afraid of Allah.

....That is because they are a people who do not understand.

Because a person who fears people more than Allah, then his mind his intellect is deficient at some

level. How can he fear the one who is smaller and not the one who is greater!

14: They will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls. Their violence

among themselves is severe. You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse. That is

because they are a people who do not reason.

Again a sign of people who do not use reason is what that they are constantly in disagreements and

conflicts and fighting with each other because they don't know how to work out solutions.

16: [The hypocrites are] like the example of Satan when he says to man, "Disbelieve." But when

he disbelieves, he says, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the

worlds."

What a liar! He doesn't actually fear Allah because if he did he wouldn't have said the things he said to

Allah.

17: So the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein.

And that is the recompense of the wrong-doers.

Bad friends, remember, they will be together in hell!

You see when a person forgets Allah, a person he forgets that he’s is the servant. He is a servant to Allah

then he does not even know himself he does not even understand his own reality when he is detached

from Allah then he becomes attached to other things and he is stuck in this quicksand of sin. This is why

a person must remember Allah the most High and not forget Him.

Any time, you know, we all need to think about who is it that I think most about, what is it that occupies

my mind my thoughts my feelings. Whatever it is each time it comes to your mind replace that thought

This is what would happen to a mountain if the Quran was revealed on a mountain, if the Qur'an was

given to a mountain to observe and to follow. And how are we? Man is such that he reads the whole

Quran, he is nearing its completion but the heart doesn't feel weighed down, doesn't feel any pressure,

the hardness does not go away, the heart does not melt, actions do not change, situation does not

improve. Then what kind of love and relationship with the Quran is this? The real impact of the Quran

is that it breaks you, Quran breaks your ego, it crushes the idol of your nafs of your desire, the idol of

your desire, it crushes your heart. So all false idols are shattered and a person is broken and then fixed

for who? For Allah!

....And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.

We all need to give thought to our state; where is my heart? What am I pursuing? What is it that I love

the most? Is a truly beneficial for me? What is it that I am preparing for my tomorrow? What is it that

I'm sending ahead for my Tomorrow? Is it good deeds that I'm accumulating or is it something else

that's occupying me so much so that I'm forgetting Allah.

12The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“The example of the believer and his death are like the example of a man who has three friends. The

first one says take what you want as you please [take whatever you want].

The second one says I am with you, but when you die I will leave you, and the third one says, I am with

you and will go with you. So the first is his wealth,

[take whatever you want of it, use whatever you want]

the second is his family and children

[who say that we're with you but when you die you're going in your grave alone]

and the third is his deeds”.

[that say to a person I am with you and I will go with you]

So what is it that we love the most? Generally it's our wealth and children. For amal, for action, for

doing good, generally what do we say? “I have no time, I am busy, my kids keep me busy, my house

keeps me busy” May Allah have mercy upon us because it is only deeds that will go with a person in the

grave, that will accompany a person on the Day of Judgment. Wealth will be destroyed with the

destruction of the earth and family will leave us in the grave and on the day of judgment they will run

away from us. So who is it that we should be seeking? Allah! Who is He?

Everything is His creation exalting Allah.

ح ه يم وح ه حزي احل زه ح ال ....And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

These are some of the names of Allah (s.w.t.) and here in particular what is mention that He is the

creator, the Inventor the Fashioner. Meaning everything is His creation, He has fashioned it, He has

beautified it, He has designed it so don't criticize the design of anything because Allah is the designer.

He is the one who fashioned it. And also what we learn from this is that this quality is only for Allah.

He alone is the Creator and He alone is the Fashioner which is why we have been prohibited from

drawing images imitating the creation of Allah and making them whether by hand or on a screen or

through any means, making them thinking of ourselves as creators, this is a major sin.

17

We learn that once the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he entered the house of Aisha (r.a.) he saw a thin curtain hanging

on the wall and it had pictures on it and these pictures must have been of living things and the color of

his face underwent a change. He took hold of that curtain and he tore it and he said:

“The most severe punishment for the people on the day of resurrection will be for those who try to

imitate Allah in the act of creation”.

That I am also a maker I am also a fashioner, doing this with pride with arrogance competing with

Allah, this is something that is forbidden.

May Allah (s.w.t.) grant us all true recognition and understanding of His names so that we understand

Him correctly and we worship Him correctly and we love Him also the way we should love Him

because love is only possible when you know the other and loving Allah is also only possible when a

person comes to know of Allah, who is Allah. And how is it that we know Allah? Through his

beautiful and perfect names and attributes.

RECITATION (1 - 2)

رة الممتحنة

محـنه الري حهيمه بهسمه هللاه الري In the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the especially Merciful.

نا لح :1 نيح أ مح ذهحا اليح يي

O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies.... يح أ ح

as allies, extending to them affection while they have disbelieved in what came to you of the truth,

having driven out the Prophet and yourselves [only] because you believe in Allah, your Lord. If

you have come out for jihad in My cause and seeking means to My approval, [take them not as

friends]. You confide to them affection, but I am most knowing of what you have concealed and

what you have declared. And whoever does it among you has certainly strayed from the soundness

of the way.

This Surah is a Madni surah and we learned that after sulah hudaibiyyah the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص learned of the

treachery of the Mushrikeen, their violation of the treaty. How? That they had helped and financed an

attack against the allies of the Muslims and this was clear treachery of the treaty. So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

demanded from the Mushrikeen (the Makkans) blood money and also terminations of their alliances or

else they should consider the Treaty of Hudaibiyyah to be terminated. But the Mushrikeen refused to

comply and so the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص intended to secretly march towards Makkah in order to take over

Makkah. Why? Because now clearly the Mushrikeen had proven that firstly they were not going to

spare any effort in inflicting harm against the Muslims and even when the Muslims have a treaty with

them they're not going to respect that.

So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he decided to secretly march towards Makkah. Why secretly? Because if the

Mushrikeen learnt of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص‘s arrival, what would they do? They would raise weapons

against the Muslims and this would lead to great bloodshed in the holy city, in the holy land. And so the

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص did not even inform the Muslims about what the intention was but just a few days before

the march to Makkah the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص informed the Muslims.

There was one companion Hatib (r.a.) who was a Badri sahabi, he was also a Muhajir and he had

relatives in Makkah. So what happened? He sent a letter to the Mushrikeen with this information in

order to do a favor to them so that in exchange they would protect his family who were still in Makkah.

And Hatib (r.a.) did that while being certain that Allah will give victory to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. He did this

Page 28: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Page 28 ربنا تقبل منا

not with the intention of betraying the Muslims, he did this only to protect his family and he was certain

that Allah, His plans, nothing was going to cause failure to His plans.

So what happened? The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was informed about this letter through wahi and the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

sent Hazrat Ali (r.a.) and a few other companions to catch up with the caravan and find the woman who

was taking the letter with her and so the letter was intercepted, it never made it to Makkah.

However, these ayaat were revealed clarifying to the Muslims about what their priorities should be, who

they should be loyal to because over here Hatib (r.a.) gave preference to his personal benefit over the

benefit of the Deen so Allah (s.w.t.) reveal these ayaat that it is made clear that for a believer what is the

standard of friendship, what is the basis of love, who is it that we should befriend and who is it that we

should not befriend. Those who oppose Allah and His messenger they are not worthy of friendship.

Allah (s.w.t.) warns the believers that:

2: If they gain dominance over you, they would be to you as enemies and extend against you

their hands and their tongues with evil, and they wish you would disbelieve.

Meaning never expect them to help you! You are trying to be friendly with them; they are never going

to help you. Even if you show favour to them as soon as they have a chance to harm you they're not

going to spare any effort. And why are you doing this anyway? To defend your family? Allah says:

3: Never will your relatives or your children benefit you; the Day of Resurrection He will judge

between you. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.

And then Allah (s.w.t.) gives an example to the believers to take a lesson from:

4: There has already been for you an excellent pattern in Abraham and those with him, when

they said to their people, "Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship

other than Allah. We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and

hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone" except for the saying of Abraham to his father, "I

will surely ask forgiveness for you, ....

Because he had promised his father, he still wanted guidance for his father.

....but I have not [power to do] for you anything against Allah. Our Lord, upon You we have

relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the destination.

Allah reminds us:

نحة :6 سح ة حح ح م أ فههيه

نح لحمك د اكح There has certainly been for you in them an excellent.... لحقح

pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever turns away - then

indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

We see over here that Ibrahim (a.s.), when his father, when his people showed open animosity then what

happened? Ibrahim (a.s.) was not naive over there. He did not take the enemy as a friend rather what

happened? He left those who showed animosity to them and over here Allah (s.w.t.) is giving us this

lesson that those who oppose you openly then do not be deceived by them, do not take them as friends,

do not show favor to them, why? Because you will be harmed, you will suffer in dunya and in Akhirah.

And so over here we are clearly told that the person who fears the meeting with Allah he should look

into his priorities; what are his priorities, who is it that he takes as his friend and who is it that he takes

as an enemy and the person who wishes to be saved from humiliation on the day of judgment then he

should strive to obey Allah and his messenger. And then Allah gives hope also, Allah says:

7: Perhaps Allah will put, between you and those to whom you have been enemies among them,

affection.....

Because hearts change, don’t compromise on your faith for the sake of other people but if you remain

firm, you never know, their hearts might change towards you. What if they believe?!

....And Allah is competent, and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

8: Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel

you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed,

Allah loves those who act justly.

So those who are just with you, what should you do? Be just with them also.

So over here we learn of another category, another group which is of those non Muslims who do not

oppose you, who do not show hatred to you. Then what should you do? Take them as enemies? No,

don't treat them as enemies if you do that that would be foolishness. Then what is it that you should do

with them? Do to them as they do to you. Meaning they are good to you, you also do good to them in

return.

Page 30: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

9: Allah only forbids you from those who fight you because of religion and expel you from your

homes and aid in your expulsion - [forbids] that you make allies of them. And whoever makes

allies of them, then it is those who are the wrongdoers.

So we see that people have been divided into three categories over here. One group is of those people

who believe. What is it that we should do with them? These are the people whom we should love for

the sake of Allah regardless of their color, regardless of their status, regardless of their race, of their

background. We should love them for the sake of Allah. Whoever has Iman they are worthy of our love

and our friendship.

Then another group is of those people, those disbelievers who oppose you, who hate you, who openly

show hatred and animosity to you. They don't stop at any length in order to harm you. They hate your

Deen. So what should you do? Take them as friends? No, don't be naive over here, defend yourself

from them, never be deceived by them.

And then the third group is of those people, those non Muslims who live in peace with you. So you also

live in peace with them and if you think about it; if they have favoured you in any way, if they have

sheltered you, not expelled you then you should not treat them as enemy, you should return their favour.

And we see what a just and balanced religion Islam is that it disciplines your inner feelings also that you

cannot just show hatred to whomever you want and show love to whomever you want. Even love and

hate, friendship an animosity, that is also dictated by what? By the laws of Allah (s.w.t.)! Then Allah

addresses the believers that:

10: O you who have believed, when the believing women come to you as emigrants, examine

them....

Meaning test their faith

....Allah is most knowing as to their faith.....

Because if the men, when they come their faith is obvious if they are coming to the Masjid and

everything their faith is obvious but a woman, if she does hijrah then remember that you have to test

them. However don't try to test the state of their heart because:

....Allah is most knowing as to their faith.....

So you have to see what is on the apparent.

....And if you know them to be believers, then do not return them to the disbelievers; ....

We learnt that the Treaty of Hudaibiyyah, it stipulated that the Mushrikeen, they set a condition that if

any “rajul” if any man immigrates from Makkah to Madina he must be returned to Makkah, he must be

sent to Makkah. So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he took advantage of the letter of the law. So what did he do?

Any man that came to Madina he sent him back however if any woman came doing hijrah he did not

Page 31: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

send her back because he took advantage of the letter of the law. He said the treaty says “Rajul” not a

person but “Rajul” and “Rajul” is specifically for who? For a man! So over her believing women are

being protected that once they do Hijrah, if they come then do not send them back to the enemy. Why?

Becasue:

.....they are not lawful [wives] for them, ....

Meaning even if they're married they're not lawful anymore for their former husbands.

....nor are they lawful [husbands] for them.....

So do not send them.

....But give the disbelievers what they have spent....

Meaning if the woman leaves with her mahar then she shouldn't keep that mahar. She should return that

mahar to that men even if he's a non Muslim and this shows us that how a person has to be honest with

regards to financial matters even when dealing with non Muslims.

....And there is no blame upon you if you marry them when you have given them their due

compensation.....

Why? Because their previous marriage has been terminated

....And hold not to marriage bonds with disbelieving women, but ask for what you have spent and

let them ask for what they have spent....

Meaning return the mahar

....That is the judgement of Allah; He judges between you. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.

So we see over here that once, in a couple for example, a husband and wife, if one embrace Islam and

the other refuses to embrace Islam they remain on idolatry on kufr, then this marriage is also no longer

valid. It is no longer valid. This ayah makes it clear.

11: And if you have lost any of your wives to the disbelievers....

Meaning any woman goes to the Mushrikeen

....and you subsequently obtain [something], then give those whose wives have gone the equivalent

of what they had spent. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers.

12: O Prophet, when the believing women come to you pledging to you that they will not

associate anything with Allah, nor will they steal, nor will they commit unlawful sexual

intercourse, nor will they kill their children, nor will they bring forth a slander they have invented

Page 32: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

between their arms and legs, nor will they disobey you in what is right - then accept their pledge

and ask forgiveness for them of Allah.....

If they fall short in observing the deen then what should you do? Seek forgiveness for them from Allah.

.....Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Over here the بيه is mentioned which means that even when a woman becomes a Muslim, when a

woman accept Islam she should be aware of what she is believing in. And over here we see the

Muslims, when they would immigrate to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص in Madina they would take a بيه and the men,

when they would take بيه, Pledge of Allegiance, they would give that to Rasool Allah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص they would

put their hand in the hand of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص but with the women this was only verbal.

نا :13 نيح أ مح ذهحا اليح يي

O you who have believed, do not make allies of a people with whom.... يح أ ح

Allah has become angry.....

Why would you befriend people who oppose Allah and His messenger to such an extent that they have

angered Allah. How can you love such people and compromise your religion for them.

.....They have despaired of [reward in] the Hereafter just as the disbelievers have despaired of

[meeting] the inhabitants of the graves.

Meaning they don't believe in the Akhirah. They don't believe that ever those who have died will return

to them. So when they don't believe in the akhirah everything for them is this dunia, this worldly life.

How can you be loyal to such people in a way that you compromise your religion you compromise your

priorities for these people. If you do that then your decisions will also be revolved around worldly

benefits, then you will suffer in the akhirah so be careful about those whom you give your heart to.

2: O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do?

Why do you say what you do not do? Sometimes a person hears something good and immediately

intends that he will do it. He hears of a good opportunity and he thinks yeah I'm going to avail this

opportunity but then later as the effect of Iman wears off he changes his mind. Allah is asking us; O’

believers why do you say what you do not do? Why is it that you say you will do something but then

you don't do it you change your mind? Why this inconsistency between your words and your actions?

Why?

Even to people, many times it happens that we say that we will do something but we don't actually do it.

We give them our word but we don't fulfil it. And sometimes children are the culprits of this, are the

victims of this rather. What happens is that many times we make promises and we do not fulfil them.

18

We learned that once Abdullah Bin Amar, he said that my mother called me one day when the Prophet

was sitting in our house and my mother called me. So ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was sitting in our house. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

it seems that Abdullah Bin Amar was still a child at that time. She said: “Come here and I will give you

something” because sometimes children don't listen right so you have to promise them these things.

So she said: “Come here I will give you something”.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص asked her:

“What did you intend to give him?”

She replied: “I intended to give him some dates”.

So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“If you were not going to give him anything a lie would be recorded against you”.

Meaning if we say something wrong to a child, if we say a lie to a child, even that is considered a lie. It

doesn't make it OK just because we're saying it to a child. It's still a lie. So Allah asks us:

لنح ح ا لح تحف ح تحقلنح مح نا له نيح أ مح ذهحا اليح يي

3: Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.

You must abide by your word, you must fulfill your promises. If you make an intention then you must

fulfill it otherwise great is the hatred of Allah. Allah does not like this at all. Who is it that Allah likes?

4: Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single]

structure joined firmly.

They’re so close together as if they were a wall, one structure that it is impossible to break them. Like

Umer (r.a.), when he was the khalifah and he was leading the people in prayer, the people behind him in

the front rows, how were they? They were standing so tightly that when the man who came to kill Umer

(r.a.), he stabbed Umer (r.a.) and he tried to run away but he couldn't run away. Why? Because the

Rows were so strong so firm he couldn't find a gap anywhere and even if he tried to go between the

people he couldn't. So he knew that he was trapped and that man, he stabbed himself to death over

there. Why? Because he knew that he was going to be in trouble.

So these are the kind of rows that Allah (s.w.t.) likes and these rows can only be formed when we are

determined ourselves. Tell me why is it that we don't sit in the front? What's the reason? Because we

want to be safe at the back in the corner on the side in case we want to go we can go. But what is it that

Allah likes? That you stand firmly, that once you have stood then stand. Don't be shaky. Don't be

hesitant. Once you have come then be firm and leave your affairs to Allah, Allah will take care of them.

Yes of course of there's an emergency that is understandable but for every little thing, why is it that

we've become so weak in the way of Allah that even when we have to go and pray in jama’ah we like to

stand at the back, we like to stand on the side? Even if there's gaps in the middle, even if there's gaps in

the front we don't like to fill them up. We like to prefer our comfort over what Allah likes. What is it

that Allah likes? Look at this ayah: ـهح يهبينيح الليح ا ه - Allah loves.... this is something that Allah loves...

when a person comes in the way of Allah, goes to the front stands firmly without any shakiness,

determined in the way of Allah.... م ح حنيح ا كفي رصص صح بنيحان ميح

19

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“On the day of judgment people whose Jihad, who striving will be most superior near Allah is of those

who face the enemy standing in the front rows without paying heed to what is behind them until they are

martyred.....”

Meaning they go stand in the front and they don't care about what is behind them who is behind them.

How many people there are, how many soldiers there are. No, they don't care, they have put everything

behind them and now they are in the front. They are determined bravely facing the enemy and Allah

(s.w.t.) is amazed at them and:

“….these are the people who will be amazed laughing in the highest Ghuruf of paradise....”

Meaning they are the ones who will be given the highest places to live in Jannah.

“….and their Lord will be looking at them and when your Lord laughs at a people then there is no

hisaab for them”.

The servant who goes in the way of the Allah determined, so determined he doesn't even look back.

So what do we Learn over here from this ayah? That we are encouraged to do things in an organized

and disciplined fashion and organization and discipline only comes when there is commitment,

commitment in our hearts and deen requires discipline from us. Not that we are randomly doing our

work one day yes we do it three days we leave it then for the fifth day we pick up something, no, this

kind of work, what result will it bring? What does it show? Non-serious effort! Allah (s.w.t.) like the

effort of those people who are serious and determined, who start and then they complete also what they

have started and in the middle they don't give up. And also we see that together as a team this is

necessary as a group because we see that a wall, it cannot form until each brick is next to the other and

we see that in a group of people each person is bringing his own talents, his own skills his own strength

and each individual is unique and together more is accomplished.

هه :5 مه لهقح مسححذ قحال ا ه And [mention, O Muhammad], when Moses said to his people, "O.... وح

my people, why do you harm me while you certainly know that I am the messenger of Allah to

you?" And when they deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate. And Allah does not guide the

defiantly disobedient people.

We see that the Bani Israel, they hurt their own messenger, they hurt their own leader their own prophet

and this is why what happened? Their hearts became deviated. We're also required to observe a level of

respect when dealing with one another. Especially when working for the Deen in an organization than

what is that respect? Commitment! And when a person observes the proper etiquette, he remains

committed then he acquires much. And when a person does not show the due respect then what

happens? Instead of gaining he only loses.

In general also we see that we must show respect to the sha’aair of the deen. The Prophet of Allah, what

does he deserve? Respect! Likewise anything of the deen whether it is the book or it is the recitation of

the book, whatever it is, it is something that deserves respect from us.

رحمح :6 عهيسح انب مححذ قحال ا ه And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O children of.... وح

many levels. Many levels and this is something that we need to think about also because when we think

about doing something for the sake of Allah we think about things which are impossible for us, we think

about the time of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص when the sahabiyaat went for a battle with Rasool Allah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. And

this is something that yes we cannot do today. However what is it that that is within our capacity? Can

Do we not need to put in utmost effort to really give time to the Quran? To make time for the book of

Meaning this transaction is better than any other transaction that you could make in your life. This

as believers no matter what we are doing in our lives, no matter where we are, whether we are studying

or we are working somewhere, whether we are as mothers, whatever, it's our wedding day, doesn't

matter what we are going through in our life, this striving for the sake of Allah, to adhered to the religion

of Allah and to bring the religion of Allah in the lives of other people also, help them learn the deen, this

is something that is a full time job. This is something that is a twenty four seven job seven days a week.

Not something that we should restrict to only parts of our lives, only certain days. No, this is a part of

our life that no matter what we are doing, where we are, at vacation or we are at home, whether we are

young or we are old, whether we are grandmothers or expectant mothers, whoever we are this is

something that should be a part of our life; Quran in my life, forever and for always, every day every

reciting Quran regularly, remembering Allah morning and evening, fasting when we are supposed to,

excelling in the act of worship and then bringing the sleigh to others also.

Allah calls all of us:

نا :14 نيح أ مح ذهحا اليح يي

Allah, ....

Why are you hesitating, why are you holding back? ـههارح الليح نصح

....as when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, "Who are my supporters for Allah?" The

disciples said, "We are supporters of Allah." And a faction of the Children of Israel believed and a

faction disbelieved.....

And those who disbelieved in him were much more than those who believed in him. But what

happened?

....So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant.

So history is proof that those who respond to Allah’s call, those who obey Allah, strive in the way of

Allah, then what will happen? Allah will certainly grant them success even if they happen to be only

twelve because how many disciples were there of Isa (a.s.)? We learned there were only about twelve

people and one of them he even betrayed the rest of them so the number is reduced. Allahu A’alam

what the exact number was but there were certainly a small group of people. But what happened? What

happened? They remained firm. They lived at a time when a person who believed in Allah, when a

person who believed in Isa (a.s.), he would be killed. Remember the Ashabul ukhdood? Who were the

ashabul-ukhdood? The people who were thrown in the trenches of fire, they were people who believed

in the teachings of Isa (a.s.).

So what happened? Today the people who do believe in Isa (a.s.) though their belief may be corrupt

because of the passage of time and because of how the Deen has been changed but regardless of that

history is proof that at one point in time there were only twelve people who believed in Isa (a.s.) and

now if you count them, in the millions, you cannot count their numbers. If you include the Muslims and

the Christians those who do have respect for Isa (a.s.), they are much more.

So never ever think that your efforts will go waste if you have done them for the sake of Allah if there

was sincerity. Yes, you put the seed in, you bury the seed, it's hidden from you, you don't even see it, it

seems as though you have ruined what you had by burying it in the soil but leave it to Allah. Allah will

grant you success. It will grow, that seed will germinate, a plant will come out of it, that plant will turn

into a tree, will grow into a tree and that tree; It will also produce seeds and those seeds will spread and

what was initially just one seed now is a huge orchard, now is a huge garden. So never ever hesitate in

going out in the way of Allah (s.w.t.).

20And this is a تارة, this is a trade that a person is making with Allah. There is another kind of تارة also

that we learn about from hadith. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص aid to Abu ayub Ansari:

“Should I not tell you about a tijarah?”

He said: “yes please ya Rasool Allah, please tell me”

He said:

“Join between people when there is فساد between them”

Meaning when people have fought with each other and their relationship is gone really bad then if you

join between them, bring them close when they distance from each other, this is what? Also a trade with

Allah because you're doing this for Allah (s.w.t.) and you see when two people, they try to fix the

problems that are between them many times they cannot fix these problems themselves. You always

need a third party, a neutral person who will come and who will solve the problem. Right? So this is

also an investment. This is also a تارة because what you get in return? Nothing. If you are trying to

solve other people's problems, what are you getting? Nothing. In fact you are losing your time your

mental energy right? Also it takes a toll on your emotional well being also right? And if you want to do

it properly without taking sides, without being biased, with justice then it requires more from you but

this is also a تارة.

These Surahs, they all begin with ح ي به بيححح or يسح ح , Allah’s tasbeeh is mentioned. And this group of surahs

is known as “Musabbihaat” that everything in the heavens and the earth is Exalting Allah, mentioning

So why everything should not exalt and praise Him?

2: It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His

verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom - although they were before in

clear error –

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was sent for this purpose. Which purpose? To teach the book and this work should

continue after the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص as well. Meaning Allah did not just send the Quran to people if you

want read it if you want leave it, No, He sent the Quran and He sent a messenger to teach people the

Quran to ensure that they learn it, they recite it, they understand it, they hear it. This is prophetic work,

this was the work of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص so after him this work must continue. This work we must give

5: The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like

that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books]....

The people of the book who were given the Torah, they were given the scripture, they learned it once

but they did not implement. Now this book, what is it? It's a burden on them just as a donkey is carrying

a burden of books. What does the donkey know what he's carrying? What does he know? Does he

benefit from the books that he's carrying? Never, not at all. Maximum what he can get is that because

of the work that he is doing the work of transportation you get some food maybe but he's never going to

be treated by respect because after all it is a donkey.

Likewise a person who's been given the book of Allah but he doesn't give respect to the book of Allah,

then such a person will never receive respect either, he will never ever receive respect either; neither in

dunya nor in Akhirah.

So the person who has been given the book but he is just carrying it as a book, as a burden of book. It's

not transforming him. It's not coming in his life. It's not changing the state of his heart. It's not

transforming his actions then this effort is useless.

Remember knowledge is for implementation, it is not for storage. It is not something that needs to be

stored in our email that needs to be stored in our hard drives that needs to be stored in our houses in our

bookshelves in books on paper, No, or even in our brains. It is not something that just needs to be

stored. Knowledge is for amal. It is for action and for action tazkirah is necessary, muzakarah is

Page 42: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Page 42 ربنا تقبل منا

necessary because remember that it does not befit a person whom Allah has given knowledge that he

waste himself. How is it that a person would waste himself? That he has a book but he doesn't use it.

He has information but he doesn't use it, he doesn't benefit from it. This is just like a person has been

given money but what does he do with that money? He just keeps it in his wallet and then what

happens? Eventually he loses the wallet and gone is the money. The money is in the bank, he never

ever uses it, gone, useless. What use is that money? Its just a burden. What use is the gold that is

sitting in a bank or that's just sitting in a locker or just in a jewelry box if a person doesn't wear it? You

understand? Something of value will only be valuable when it is used and how is it used and when a

person is using it then really he's taking benefit from it. If he's not using it, he is wasting it and by

wasting it he's not wasting anything but himself.

Now how is it that a person can implement his knowledge? Because we're human beings and we forget.

Adam (a.s.), he was placed in the garden and Allah told him very clearly this is a tree, the fruit of this

tree is forbidden. But what happened? Did Adam (a.s.) not forget? He forgot even though Allah told

him. Allah told him! Adam forgot! Even though there were so many halaal options but Adam (a.s.)

forgot, why? Because shaitan was after him and shaitan is after every single one of us.

Remember, once you know, shaitan is more and more after you. This is why when you read Quran,

what do you have to do? ي ح الشي هلله مه ذ به عح يمه أ جه انه الريح طح

So what is it that a person needs to do to ensure that this knowledge doesn't just become a burden? That

we don't just become like donkeys carrying certificates carrying books that are filled with notes? We

don't want to be like people who have a lot of knowledge but that knowledge is useless to them because

this is the worst example, Allah says:

ـهه ته الليح يح

با بهأ

ذيح نيح كح ذهمه اليح ل القح ثح Wretched is the example of the people who deny the.... بهئسح مح

signs of Allah....

What a terrible example this is: wretched is example of the people who deny the signs of Allah.

So we don't want to be of them.

What should we do then? there are several things that we have to do. First of all; Revision! Revision so

a person does not forget. Meaning when a person learns a lesson, learns a few ayaat then don't just put

the book away, No, review it. Review what you have read, look at what you have read. Review what

you have written. Why? Because if you put it away you'll forget it, you won’t remember it and if you

won’t remember it, how are you going to implement it, how are you going to bring it into your life. And

if it's not for the purpose of bringing it into our lives then it's a useless effort. Really it is. The Quran

should be studied with the intention of reforming oneself, improving oneself. So the first thing is

revision.

Secondly; Muzakarah that a person mentions it also, he talks about it also. With who? Meaning of

course with oneself but also with others because when you will share what you have, you will spread the

seeds of knowledge, you will spread the seeds of khair that you have. So what will happen? What you

have will grow and as it will grow it will strengthen you and you will strengthen others also.

Page 43: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Juzz # 28 2015 فهم القرأ ن

Page 43 ربنا تقبل منا

Think about it when you share something that you have learnt with the people at home then do they

remind you? Of course they do. Children, do they remind you? Yes they do. If you remember that for

the first juzz I had asked you to write the ayah: قلا لهلنيحاسه حسنا (surah Al-baqarah – 83) وح

on a piece of paper and put it somewhere so that you can remember to do that I did it myself also and I

put it up on my fridge and so many times it happens that when the children are fighting with each other

they point to it and when they're pointing to it then mom has to lower her voice and mom has to be

careful about what she's saying, right? And dad has to do the same thing also because each person is

helping the other. But think about it if: اسه حسنا قلا لهلنيح is written nicely in my notes and the notes وح

are also very beautiful, color coded, font is beautiful, everything is nice, what use is that? Isn't it then

just a burden? Isn't it just a burden then? It's a burden!

It makes you feel so heavy. It makes you feel so heavy, heavy in your heart when you're not

implementing what you're learning. So remember ilm is not for storage, it is for implementation and

also another thing that a person needs to do in order to remember what he has learned is to act upon it

because once you act upon it then what happens? You have lived it. Once you have lived it, it's in your

memory. Once it's in your memory insha Allah you won't forget it.

ـه لح يحالليح يح وح الهمه

مح الظيح ي القح ده ....And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

Those who do zulm! What is this zulm over here? Zulm against the Book of Allah, against kitaabullah,

the book of Allah is meant to be read and studied and understood and implemented and those who don't

give the haq of the book then such people are zalim and Allah will not guide them no matter how much

information they're carrying on their backs.

6: Say, "O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allah, excluding the [other]

people, [meaning paradise is only for you] then wish for death, if you should be truthful."

And just like that many Muslims think that doesn't matter what we do Paradise is for us, we don't need

to read the Quran, we don't need to really look at our actions, paradise is guaranteed for us. Well then

why don't you ask for death? Why are you so greedy for a life? Allah says:

7: But they will not wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth.....

When a person is doing something wrong he knows even if he doesn’t say, even if he doesn’t verbally

acknowledge.

....And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.

8: Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be

returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you

used to do."

Page 44: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Page 44 ربنا تقبل منا

You see death is a reality something that nobody can escape and we don't like to remember death. Why?

So that we can continue having fun because thinking about death, imagining death, picturing death, it is

something that kills pleasures and the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص told us to do that, that

“Remember death which is the destroyer of pleasures”.

But the fact is that just ignoring death, not thinking about it is not going to change reality. Death is

coming. Allah says “it is going to meet you” and the thing is that the greater issue the bigger issue is

that death doesn't mean terminations of existence, it means the beginning of eternal life so how is it that

a person can neglect death? It is something so serious so serious because after we die eternity begins.

After we die, that is when we will be repaid, recompensed for what we have been doing. So how can a

person neglect death? Remember death every day because the Angel of Death knows you and he's

coming for you, for each and every one of us.

9: O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah

[Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade.....

This is specifically for men because on men jumu’ah is wajib, it is mandatory. That when you hear the

adhan, then what is it that you have to do? Stop drop and go to the masjid. Stop what you're doing,

leave what you're doing, drop what's in your hand, everything, leave it: يعح روا البح ذح stop it immediately – وح

and go to the masjid. Proceed to the remembrance of Allah and what is a remembrance of Allah? It is

just the two raka’ah of jumu’ah? The remembrance of Allah, this includes the khutbah before the salah

also host of other for Sunnah also because many times it happens that people go for Jummah late

deliberately so they don't have to listen to the khutba. Allah says go on time:

....That is better for you, if you only knew.

21

The Prophetملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“Whoever takes a bath on Friday and bathes completely [meaning properly] and goes early and walks

and does not ride to the mosque…..

because and you see Alhumdulillah parking issues at masjid, Alhumdulillah because people are forced

to park far from the masjid and then walk to the masjid. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“….he walks to the masjid, does not ride and sits close to the imam and listens to him and does not

engage in idle talk then for every step he takes he will have the reward of one year's fasting and praying

at night”.

Can you imagine; is it easy to fast and pray at night these days? Is it easy? Can you imagine for the

whole year a person is doing this but this is for who? The one who takes a bath, goes to the masjid

early even if he has to take many steps he walks and he sits close to the imam. Why close to the imam?

Why not at the back? You know why, right? Because he's determined to listen until the end, he's

forgotten the world and everything, he has left it behind and he listens to the imam, does not engage in

idle talk meaning doesn't say anything to the people that are around him, completely focused on the

khutbah; look at the reward that is mentioned over here. And when a man deliberately leaves jumu’ah,

three jumua’hs in a row, then hypocrisy is stamped on his heart. This is something very serious, where

there is a huge reward there is also a huge loss in not giving attention to jumua’ah. And jumu’ah,

remember it’s a day that Allah (s.w.t.) choose, Allah chose Friday for us.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“The days were shown to me and among them Friday was shown to me….

[Meaning in some tangible form]

….It looked like a white mare in the middle of which is a black spot. So I asked: “What is that?” it was

said “The hour”

Meaning the Day of Judgment is also going to occur when? On Friday and those who give importance

to Friday, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“On the day of judgment Allah will bring the days of the week in certain forms….

[Meaning in some tangible form because deeds will also take some physical form on the Day of

Judgment so even the days of the week will come in a certain form]

…..And He will bring the day or Friday in a beautifully radiant and shining form. And the people of

Friday

[The people who celebrate Friday, meaning who give importance to Friday… And what is it that we

need to give importance to Friday? Salatul jumua’ah.

….they will surround it like a bride is surrounded when taken to her groom….

Just picture that scene in your head in a wedding that the girl's family is coming along with her right.

And generally with the girl there are those flower those bridesmaid right. So you just imagine how a

woman is honored with the whole escort and like that people will surround Jumu’ah.

….It will enlighten the way for them….

It will be a source of noor for them because remember on the Day of Judgment on the “siraat” there will

be darkness; below is fire and above is darkness and the bridge is thinner than a hair, sharper than a

sword and very slippery and on it sides there hooks and this is real. Every person has to cross the

bridge. So imagine, they will have light, the light of Jumu’ah, they will walk in its light.

….Their colors like white snow and their fragrance like Musk as if they were in mountains of kafoor.

Men and Jinn will look at them not turning away out of amazement…..

Page 46: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Meaning people will be just staring at the people of jummu’ah not even looking away out of amazement

until they will enter jannah. They will be like this until they enter jannah.

Yani “ahlul Jumu’ah, its the people of jumu’ah, so if we want we can also be amongst them. But

generally what happens for women because we have a choice we take advantage of that choice and

when it's difficult for us to go for jumu’ah we don't go. But men, they don't really have a choice. Do

they? They have to leave their work, they have to use their lunch break and then go for Jumuah. This is

a hadith, authentic hadith from a silsilatus sahiha

10: And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty

of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.

So how is success achieved? Salah and after salah seeking the fazal of Allah with excellence and

abundance zikr.

11: But when they saw a transaction or a diversion, [O Muhammad], they rushed to it and left

you standing. Say, "What is with Allah is better than diversion and than a transaction, and Allah

is the best of providers."

Over here the indication is to the time when the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was once giving Khutbah al-jumu’ah and

the sahabah were listening to the khutbah and at that same time a caravan arrived in Medina. And a

caravan arriving in Medina, what does it mean? They're bringing in goods for sale. So the sooner you

will go the better stuff you'll get, all right? And when they came, this caravan when it arrived in Medina

it also made a lot of noise in order to attract people so that people would come and shop. So it became

very difficult for the sahabah. So what happened? One by one they started leaving. They thought “oh

it's just the khutbah” meaning the Salah has not really begun let me go and book something let me go

and buy things quickly and remember that's sahabh were living in poverty; shortage of food, shortage of

food supplies. So one by one they kept going until only twelve people remained in the masjid and seven

women. Twelve men and seven women, barely twenty people, they stayed and the rest of the people,

they all left. They were human beings after all, OK, sahabah were human beings. Don't we do this? I

mean think about it if there was something like this outside then what would we do? What would we

do? We would probably do the same thing. Right? If this was not Ramadan and there was food fest

going on what would we do? And if it wasn't far what would we do? Probably the same thing; “Leave

class, it's only just one day” isn't it? So the sahabah, they did something similar. They said it's OK just

one day, just a few minutes we're going to go spend we'll be back, no big deal but Allah reveal these

ayaat that what are you doing? What are you leaving for what? What are you leaving? You are leaving

the zikr of Allah for this petty dunya? What Allah has to offer, the ajar, the reward that Allah has to

offer, the ilm that you gain is far better than the things that you can buy.

Also even if it may be at a time when you fear that there will not be enough left for you later on still rely

upon Allah and remain in the worship of Allah. You see there are some things that you can postpone

temporarily. Like for example you do your wudhu, you are going to pray your salah, what happens?

Your phone rings, well at that time you can take your phone call, no problem, unless there's only a few

Page 47: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Juzz # 28 2015 فهم القرأ ن

Page 47 ربنا تقبل منا

minutes left for that Salah then of course you're not going to take that phone call but the salah, if the

time just entered you can always postpone it a few minutes in order take your phone call.

However once you have started your prayer, then can you attend to your phone? You cannot right, so

then what do you say at that time when you're praying and the phone is ringing? You get worried who's

calling me but then you tell yourself it's OK I can call them back. And then you wonder what if it's a

private caller and what if they don't leave a message then what do you say you know what if the phone

call is in my qismat, if it's in my fate, if it's written for me for sure I will get to speak to that person, isn't

it? And if it's not written for me I will never get to speak to that person.

So likewise when a person goes in the way of Allah whether he is learning or worshipping because you

see khutbah, they were listening to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he was teaching them, the khutbah was that one

class that he would take, he would not regularly every day lecture the Sahabah, he would teach them in

different ways, jumu’ah khutbah was that one khutbah that he would give every week. This was their

class time and remember everybody would come from far off places also. This was a time of Taaleem,

class was in effect and in that they left, Allah did not like that. What does this teach us? That once a

commitment is made, work has begun, then don't leave it for little little things, don't leave it for little

things because when our work will lack commitment then the work cannot be done with ehsaan and who

is it that Allah loves? People who do ehsaan.

that you are the Messenger of Allah." And Allah knows that you are His Messenger….

Their testimony is not needed

…. and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.

Here we see the hypocrites are swearing oaths to assure the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص of their faith with their tongues

but their testimony is not acceptable near Allah سبحانه تعالى. It’s not accepted by Allah, why? Because

their actions are contrary to their words, their actions contradict what they say. What was on the tongue

was not really in the heart.

So we need to check ourselves also sometimes. Sometimes when you are alone, ask yourself; “do I

really believe? Do I really believe in Allah? What is in my heart? Do I really believe in the Day of

Judgment? Do I really believe that Mohammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was the Prophet of Allah?” Because if we just say

that we believe and in our heart that إيمان is not there, then these words are useless before Allah. إيمان

must be in the heart and if إيمان is really in the heart then you don’t need to say it over and over again.

Then it’s obvious by the actions, it’s obvious by the worship of a person, by the commitment of a

person, by his behaviour. It’s obvious; he doesn’t need to say it.

And then we need to check that if I say that I have إيمان in my heart then how is my عمل, how are my

actions? Do I act upon what I learn? Because إيمان is the name for that which is consistent between

Page 49: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Page 49 ربنا تقبل منا

actions, heart and tongue. Meaning it’s the same throughout, actions, heart and tongue, that which is

consistent between all three that is what is إيمان.

And remember that عمل is part of إيمان, and if عمل is not there, actions are missing, then إيمان will also

reduce and a person will fall into hypocrisy as we see over here because Allah is rejecting their

testimony. He is rejecting the statement of the منافقون. So, in order to be of the people of إيمان, it is

necessary that we testify with our tongues but also in our hearts we find faith to be sweet, we find the

pleasure of faith.

And in addition to عمل also we observe good أخالق because unless أخالق is good, one cannot come out

of نفاق, a person cannot leave hypocrisy. We might perform our صالة and recite a lot of قرآن but if our

behaviour with our parents, our siblings, our relatives, our husbands is not good then there is a big

problem.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“Two things will never be together in a hypocrite; good manners and فقه in the religion.”

Good manners and understanding the religion, these two things, they are never found together in a

hypocrite.

So really, if a person knows the دين and then his أخالق is also good, then yes, that is an evidence of his

is not good then أخالق But if a person has a lot of knowledge but the .إيمان that is a proof of his ,إيمان

what is that a proof of? Hypocrisy!

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“I do not think that so and so and so and so knows anything of our religion.”….

Meaning such a person doesn’t understand anything about the religion.

……And Laith, he said, that these two persons were among the hypocrites.

So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he described them as those who were ignorant of the religion, meaning they may

even have knowledge but they don’t truly understand, they don’t really get it.

Hudhaifah Bin Yaman رضي هللا عنه and remember Hudhaifah Bin Yaman رضي هللا عنه, he was that

companion whom the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص informed of the names of the hypocrites, he said that: “The

hypocrites of today, so this was after the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص passed away….

He said, “The hypocrites of today are worse than those of the life time of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص because in

those days they used to do evil deeds secretly but today they do such deeds openly.”

Page 50: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Juzz # 28 2015 فهم القرأ ن

Page 50 ربنا تقبل منا

So bad deeds, sins, what do they give birth to? Hypocrisy! Open sinning, openly disobeying Allah,

whether it is in the form of indecent clothing or it is in the form of indecent speech, deceiving other

people, backbiting, these are all forms of hypocrisy.

So, Allah does not accept the verbal statements of such people, we really need to think about this

seriously, we really need to be honest with ourselves. Check yourself, where do I contradict my

knowledge? Where do I contradict what I know? Where? If I am contradiction it with my actions, then

there is a problem.

Allah says:

2: They have taken their oaths as a cover, so they averted [people] from the way of Allah….

Meaning they have no interest in the دين, so called Muslims, oppose Islam.

….Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.

3: That is because they believed, and then they disbelieved; so their hearts were sealed over, and

they do not understand.

4: And when you see them… Their bodies will please you…. their forms please you….

Meaning their appearance, physical appearance is very impressive, very impressive, why? Because their

entire focus is on the outward, on the body, physical appearance! That, ‘I have to be fit and I have to

be… for men muscular’ Whatever it is and then ج ,زينة !their forms will please you ,تبر

…..and if they speak, you listen to their speech….

Meaning they know how to talk impressively. They are very convincing when it comes to words.

But what is their reality?

….. [They are] as if they were pieces of wood propped up….

Empty and faithless, dead and lifeless, wood which apparently may look nice but what good is wood,

if… what use is wood, if it’s just propped up against a wall? What’s the benefit? Is that the purpose of

wood? No its not! I mean if you have a good piece of wood what are you going to do with it? It’s

going to be used for the purpose of construction or in the form of furniture, right? But if its leaning

against a wall, what does it show? It’s completely useless. It’s completely useless, its weak from inside.

Because when is it that wood will be put on the side? When it’s not strong enough. When is it that you

will see pieces of furniture outside on garbage night, when? When? You might say, “O but it looks

perfectly fine!” But when you go close to it, you see that its broken, right? This is why it was thrown

away, it was discarded.

Page 51: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Page 51 ربنا تقبل منا

So remember if our focus is also just on our bodies, we may appear to be very beautiful and very

impressive, and our words may be very impressive also, but if our actions and the state of our heart is

not good then we are like that useless piece of furniture that is no good, and it’s just thrown out.

…. they think that every shout is against them….

Meaning inside they are cowards, they are guilty.

….. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded?

5: And when it is said to them, "Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you,"

they turn their heads aside and you see them evading while they are arrogant.

Meaning they don’t like to come to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

6: It is all the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for

them; never will Allah forgive them. Indeed, Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.

اه اليحضي فح …. They are the ones who say,

"Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disband." And to Allah

belongs the depositories of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.

So we see that in addition to other sins, what do we learn? That a hypocrite does not spend in the way of

Allah and he also discourages others from spending in the way of Allah. And he also talks against those

who are striving in the way of Allah, making fun of them, criticising them, talking about them behind

their backs. This is something that is found in who? In a person who has نفاق because a believer doesn’t

do that. A believer spends in the way of Allah, encourages spending in the way of Allah, he serves the

religion of Allah and he encourages others to do the same not that he will discourage those who are

striving in the way of Allah.

8: They say, "If we return to al-Madinah, the more honored will surely expel therefrom the

more humble."….

This is referring to Abdullah Bin Ubay, but just look at the pride over here, that firstly against the

Muslims and then the leader also. And we see that the hypocrite, his effort is gauged towards ousting

the leader, power struggles, the hypocrite’s concern is self-glory, power, this is what he wants.

Now Abdullah Bin Ubayy, we learn that on return from ‘غزوة بني المصطلق’, a particular expedition that

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص went on and remember that Abdullah Bin Ubayy, he had apparently accepted Islam.

When the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص would give خطبة for جمعة, Abdullah Bin Ubayy would stand up and he would

face the people and he would say, “O people you’re so fortunate, the messenger of Allah has come, you

Page 52: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

should believe in him and support him and you shall be successful.” He would give his own speech and

then he would finally sit down and let the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص give the خطبة.

So, this Abdullah Bin Ubayy, the same man, what did he do? On return from ‘غزوة بني المصطلق’ it is

said that, we learn from different traditions that an صاريأن man and a مهاجر man, they had a small fight

and in that small fight, the أنصاري said, “O أنصار come and help me!” And the مهاجر said, “O مهاجرون

come and help me!” This was a racist call, right? Because Islam makes us all brothers and sisters, then

you don’t say, “O we are Ansaris and we are مهاجرون, we are Pakistanis and we are Arab and we are

this and we are that” No, we are all together in one. So, what happened? Abdullah Bbin Ubayy was

very happy with this division, very happy and immediately he came there and he tried to aggravate the

situation but the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, when he found out he came and he calmed the people down and he said,

“Leave this racism, because this is filthy, don’t talk like this, don’t say such things!”

So, what happened? Then the مهاجرون and the أنصار were together again, they got over their fight and

everything was normal again and Abdullah Bin Ubayy was not happy. He wanted this division so he

went on a rant against the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, against the Muslims. He started abusing the Muslims verbally

and started criticising especially the مهاجرون, those who had come into Medina. And he said, “These are

people who have taken over our lands, they’re so weak, they’re so greedy.” And he went on against

them. And he also said about the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص that, “When we go to Medina, then you will see who has

the real power, the one with real honour will expel the one who doesn’t have honour” What is he

saying? ‘That I am the one with honour and Mohammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is the one without honour. So, when we

go to Medina, you will see what I do, I will make sure that these مهاجرين leave and this Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

also leaves. This is what he said. Allah says:

…. And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites

do not know.

They do not know, and this is why, they get stuck in this and they’re just concerned about their own

honour and glory.

Because what is the root cause of hypocrisy? Love for this world, so we are advised over here “Do not

let your family and your things make you so busy that you forget to remember Allah عزوجل,” don’t let

that happen! You see the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص also had a huge family, huge family. He didn’t just have one

wife, he had many wives and the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he didn’t just have one apartment or one house to take

care of; multiple!

Ayesha رضي هللا عنها said, when she was asked what the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص did when he was home, she said,

“He used to keep himself busy serving his family and when it was time for prayer, he would get up for

prayer.”

Meaning while at home he would be working helping his family but as soon it was time for prayer he

would leave everything and he would go for prayer. And this is something we need to remember also.

Allah says: تلههمك .Don’t let your wealth and children distract you from the remembrance of Allah - لح

10: And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches

one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give

charity and be among the righteous."

11: But never will Allah delay a soul when its time has come. And Allah is Acquainted with what

you do.

So another piece of advice that we are given over here is what? That give some charity before you die.

This money that Allah has given you, use it to earn آخرة as well. Don’t just use it for eating and

drinking and dressing up and wasting and throwing, no, don’t just do that! Use some of this money to

earn your home of the آخرة. So give some charity.

A man came to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and asked, “Ya Rasooallah, which charity is the most superior in

reward?” And he replied:

“The charity that you practice while you are healthy....”

You are healthy, you’re sound in your body

….and at the same time you are a little stingy….

Meaning you want everything for yourself.

….. And you are afraid of poverty and you wish to become wealthy….

Right? So charity given at that time is the best.

…. He said, “Do not delay it to the time of approaching death and then say, give so much to such and

such and so much to such and such, when it has already belonged to such and such.”

Meaning it’s too late then. So while a person is healthy, well, in normal routine, he should give صدقة

then, right? And on everything, in every way. And صدقة saves a person from bad death and is

protection against the punishment in the grave also, shade for the person on the Day of Judgment.

روه احذح But if you pardon and overlook and forgive - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and .… فح

Merciful.

Has it ever happened with you that you want to recite the قرآن but your family doesn’t let you? You

want to sit and peacefully make دعاء before إفطار, and what happens? One person wants one thing and

another person wants another thing and we get angry over there and we start yelling at them. Allah says

روه be careful, because you’re being tested through your family. You love them but realise that فحاحذح

what they’re saying to you is not something that is out of love but it is something that is like an enemy to

you. Meaning if you obey them, you will suffer, so what do you have to do? Hit them and yell at them?

And cut off from them? No! What do you have to do? Pardon, overlook, forgive, then…

…. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Ibn Abbass رضي هللا عنه when he was asked about this يةآ , he said, “These are men who accepted Islam in

Makkah and they wanted to do هجرة but their families refused to allow them to come to the Prophet

”ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

And their families were just their children and their wives, alright? Not that big elders of the family

preventing them, really stopping them by force, no, they could go easily but they didn’t go, why?

Because their family didn’t want to go. So what happened? They did not do هجرة for the sake of their

families.

And what happened? Eventually, later on when they met with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص they saw that the people

had gained so much more knowledge and so much more experience and they were far behind them. So

then they became upset with their families and they wanted to punish their children, they wanted to

punish their wives and they wanted to punish their relatives but this يةآ was revealed. That now be

careful, whatever has happened has happened, now you should be careful. Just because something is

coming from whom you love doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. You understand? Just because

someone who loves you is telling you to do something or stopping you from something, it doesn’t mean

that it is what you should do. You have to check what does Allah say, what does the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص say?

Just like an enemy you’re careful, right? If there is a person who you do not trust and they are trying to

advise you, would you take their advice just like that? No, what do you do? You really analyse,

carefully analyse what they are telling you. And then yes, if it makes sense you do it and if it doesn’t

make sense you will not do it even if they tell you twenty times, you will never do it!

So just like that, these people who are closest to you whom Allah has made a part of you, right? That

they are related to you by blood, don’t love them blindly, don’t obey them blindly, be careful over there.

And whatever has happened, forgive them. And now whenever they prevent you from doing something

good, overlook them.

You see a person gets most affected by who? By who? Family! Right? We slip because of them and in

their love, sometimes we make Allah upset also. And especially if the family is not upon the دين, then

Page 58: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Page 58 ربنا تقبل منا

the difficulty is doubled. It is doubled, and really if you think about it, what is it that prevents many

people from going forward in the way of Allah?

Like for example when it comes to ‘ يام الليلق ’ praying in the night time, what prevents many women

from going to تراويح ? What is preventing them? It’s their children, right? But I mean that’s

understandable, that’s understandable children cannot go every night and many children, they cannot

even go for one night, they don’t have that capacity, right? So, in that case, okay, the mother is staying

but really are the children to blame or are we to blame because if we really want to pray, can we not

pray at home? Can we not pray at home? We can, right? Our problem is that we don’t pray ourselves

and we put the blame on the children, we put the blame on the husband, we put the blame on the parents.

So, we really need to see, what is it that’s really preventing me from obeying Allah? Is it really my

family or is it myself? Is it really my family or myself? Because sometimes the opposition is internal,

it’s from us, from our hearts, our نفس and that is what we need to fight against. And many times we’re

concerned about the obstacles that come in our way from the side of our families and we forget the

obstacles that we have created for ourselves. What does Allah say?

ة :15 تنح فه

دك ولحأ ح وح

المك ح م

حا أ حنيح …Your wealth and your children are but a trial .… ا ه

So great reward is attained by great effort, what do you have to do then?

قا هللاح :16اتيح تم فح تحطح ا ا .…So, fear Allah as much as you are able .… مح

Meaning at least do that which is within your capacity. We blame children for not letting us to go for

but then can we not pray at home? We can right? We blame our families, “O they’re not تراويح

supportive with the study of the قرآن” Well can’t we do other things also? We can pray on time, they

don’t prevent us from prayer, or do they? They don’t! They don’t prevent us from performing our سنة,

do they? No! They don’t prevent us from doing our ذكر. No, they don’t! So, that is what we need to

focus on then, at least do what you can do: قا هللاحاتيح تم فح تحطح ا ا مح

Meaning just because the husband said leave your prayer, leave your حجاب, leave this, that doesn’t

mean that a wife should listen to him. Of course we learned the importance of good أخالق, just because

the parent say do this wrong thing doesn’t mean you have to do it. You have to observe good أخالق. But

call yourself to account, be honest with yourself; what is it that is within your capacity, are you doing

that? If you are doing that, then انشاء هللا Allah will facilitate other things for you, also. He will make

them easy for you.

RECITATION (1 - 2)

محـنه الري حهيمه بهسمه هللاه الري In the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the especially Merciful.

1: O Prophet, when you [Muslims] divorce women, divorce them for [the commencement of]

their waiting period….

Meaning give them the divorce at a time when they can actually begin their عدة.

….and keep count of the waiting period, and fear Allah, your Lord. Do not turn them out of their

[husbands'] houses….

Do not kick them out!

…. nor should they [themselves] leave….

Meaning they should not leave the house of their husband in rage, no! They should stay there!

….unless they are committing a clear immorality. And those are the limits [set by] Allah. And

whoever transgresses the limits of Allah has certainly wronged himself. You know not; perhaps

Allah will bring about after that a [different] matter.

So be hopeful and be careful about the waiting period and observe that properly. You never know the

couple might get back together. Be hopeful.

2: And when they have [nearly] fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable

terms or part with them according to acceptable terms….

Meaning if you are serious about the marriage then be serious about it.

Page 61: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

the Last day. And whoever fears Allah…. قه هللاحمح حتيح وح جا يح رح ه مح

Over here in these verses, the rulings concerning the عدة, the waiting period after divorce are explained.

When it comes to weddings, generally we see we know a lot about weddings more than what our

religion even asks us to do, right? When it comes to the celebrations, when it comes to the dresses,

when it comes to wedding parties and the wedding showers and one wedding party after the other, right?

We know about it. So well that we know exactly how to plan it, what to do, which music to play and

everybody knows those songs, even. When it comes to weddings we are very well educated. But when

it comes to the laws that Allah has revealed concerning نكاح, concerning طالق, then what is it that we

follow? Generally, when it comes to طالق we forget about what Allah has revealed. What is it that

people follow? Their emotions! So in one sitting give طالق one hundred times, in one sitting give طالق

three times. That sacred bond that was formed, just dissolve it in one moment of anger and then once

the divorce is pronounced again not taking care of the حدود that Allah has set, the limits that Allah has

set. So, one divorce is given and the couple get back together after that, then another divorce and the

couple gets back after that and this happens numerous times forgetting that revocable divorce is only

two times, not three, four, five, six, seven times! This is all what? Crossing the limits that Allah has set

and this is something very dangerous because Allah has sent this religion in order to be observed.

Allah says: قه هللاحمح حتيح جاوح رح ه مح

حل ليح يح

Divorce is difficult, it’s very painful, very painful but the one who fears Allah, doesn’t follow his

emotions over here, but observes the limits Allah has set then Allah will make a way out for him. So at

the time of this فتنة and this dispute also, whoever fears Allah, he will be guided by Allah. Whether it is

the man or the woman, both have to observe تقوى and their families also. Because sometimes the man

and the woman, the couple, they want to fix things but the family, their interference makes things

impossible, so everybody needs to fear Allah in order to find the best option.

ب :3 تحسه يحيث لح حح زقه مه يح And will provide for him from where he does not even .… وح

expect….

Meaning from where a person cannot even imagine Allah will give him. Who? This is for who? The one

who fears Allah!

…. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish

His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

Page 62: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

We think our problems will never end until we violate the limits that Allah has set. No, be patient, rely

upon Allah, fear Allah, for everything is a limit.

4: And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women - if you doubt, then their

period of عدة is three lunar months, and [also for] those who have not menstruated. And for those

who are pregnant, their term is until they give birth. And whoever fears Allah - He will make for

him of his matter ease.... ا هه يس مره أ ح ه مه

حل ليح ح يح قه هللايحمح حتيح وح

Look at the benefits of تقوى. What is تقوى? Obeying Allah basically, obeying the commands that Allah

has given. But don’t we leave them out of fear? Don’t we leave them out of these fears: “O, then it will

be very difficult for me.” What does Allah say? You fear Allah, Allah will make things easy for you.

It’s the exact opposite. We leave Allah’s commands so that our lives can be easy. Does it get easy?

Never! Allah tells us “you fear Allah, Allah will create ease”.

5: That is the command of Allah, which He has sent down to you; and whoever fears Allah - He

will remove for him his misdeeds…. جرام لحه أ ح ظه اتههه وح ئح ييه ح ر عحنه ه

فيحح ح قه هللاي

مح حتيح وح

Sometimes a person has certain bad habits, sins, he keeps falling into but he also fears Allah. Now this

is so beautiful that if a person continues to fear Allah and increases that dose, then what will happen?

Allah will remove those sins from him, eventually that person will get over those sins, he will leave

them. And when he will leave those sins:

جرام لحه أ ح ظه .Allah will make great for him his reward ..… وح

.how appreciate is Allah that a person leaves a sin and Allah will reward him for that سبحان هللا

6: Lodge them…. Meaning the women.…. Lodge them where you dwell out of your means….

Meaning the standard of living should be what you can afford.

….and do not harm them in order to oppress them….

Meaning do not harass the woman so much that she leaves everything forfeiting her rights just so she

can get out of this abusive marriage.

….. And if they should be pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. And if they

breastfeed for you, then give them their payment….

Meaning if they breastfeed your child for you after the divorce then give them their payment.

….and confer among yourselves in the acceptable way; but if you are in discord, then there may

breastfeed for the father another woman.

Meaning this is also an option. After the divorce then remember the woman, the mother, she has the

right to nurse her child and if she is nursing the child the father of the child, even though she is no longer

married to him, he has to compensate her because it’s his child. She would not have had that child, had

he not been with her, alright? So, this is why he is responsible financially. And this should be decided

with mutual discussion and if this is leading to too many problems, then okay, forget it. The man, the

father has to find some other woman, some other way of nursing the child, of feeding the baby. Meaning

the rights of the baby must not be compromised just because of the divorce.

7: Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth, and he whose provision is restricted - let him

spend from what Allah has given him. Allah does not charge a soul except [according to] what He

has given it. Allah will bring about, after hardship, ease.

Remember this also: ل هللا ح ج يح ا ح دح عسش يس بح

There is ease with difficulty and then there is ease after difficulty also. No difficulty is permanent and

absolute.

8: And how many a city was insolent toward the command of its Lord and His messengers, so

We took it to severe account and punished it with a terrible punishment.

9: And it tasted the bad consequence of its affair, and the outcome of its affair was loss.

10: Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment; so, fear Allah, O you of understanding

who have believed…. Take lesson! ….. Allah has sent down to you….

A reminder, a message, an instruction and that is:

… the قرآن.

So, look at the previous people when they did not listen to Allah, what happened? What do you think of

yourself, Allah has revealed this law and you will leave it, you will neglect it, then what do you expect

in your life?

11: [Allah has sent] a Messenger [Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص] reciting to you the distinct verses of Allah

that He may bring out those who believe and do righteous deeds from darknesses into the light…

When we follow the commands of Allah, we’re taken out of darkness into light.

12: It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them….

Meaning just as there are seven shies, there are seven earths also.

…. [His] command descends among them so you may know that Allah is over all things competent

and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge.

Yes, there are seven earths also. Where are they, how are they, what exactly they are? Allah knows, the

Creator knows, the owner knows. But what we need to realise from this is the greatness of the Creator,

the greatness of Allah. How do we realise that? By the greatness of His creations, by the greatness of

His knowledge and so trust what He has commanded, believe in Him and obey Him. Do not take His

commands lightly.

محـنه الري بهسمه هللاه حهيمه الري In the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the especially Merciful.

1: ي بهحا النيح يي

why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made ,ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص O Prophet .… يح أ ح

lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Indication over here is to the honey that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص swore not to ever drink again. Why? Because

some of his wives said to him that honey had left a bad smell on him. So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص for the

purpose of pleasing his wives, he swore an oath that he would never ever drink that honey again, he

would leave it. He did not declare it unlawful but he just wanted his wives to be happy.

Look at how careful the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was. He didn’t even want smell from him because of food that he

liked, alright, why? Just to make his wives happy. But since the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is a role model, if he left

something, what would the rest of the Ummah do? They would also leave it and honey is something

that should not be left, right?

How many times is it that you find out that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ate a particular food and then you also eat

it? Or that you find out, like for example when it comes to إفطار, why is it that dates are so necessary?

Does it say in the قرآن anywhere that you have to break your fast with dates? Even people who generally

don’t like dates, what will they do? They will eat dates in Ramadan to break their fasts, why? The

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص did it, right? So if the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلصleft honey, what do you think the rest of the people

would do? They would also leave it. And besides this illustrates the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص’s personal preference

was not to dictate what is lawful and what is unlawful.

2: Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths. And Allah is

your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is told over here, break your oath and give the كفارة and what is that? What is that?

Three fasts, if that is not possible, then feeding ten مسكين or clothing them

3: And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement.…

He shared a secret with her, and since it was a secret let it be a secret.

Page 66: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

….and when she informed [another] of it, Allah informed him about it….

Meaning when she disclosed the secret of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, Allah told the Prophet that she has disclosed

your secret and:

….the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص made known part of it and ignored a part….

Meaning he let her know that I know that you did not keep my secret.

…. And when he informed her about it, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed

by the Knowing, the Acquainted."

4: If you two [wives] repent to Allah, [it is best]….

This was basically Ayesha رضي هللا عنها and Hafsa رضي هللا عنها.

…. [it is best] for your hearts have deviated…

The wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص are addressed over here, imagine! If you repent then that is something

you should do, because you did something wrong. Your heart made a mistake. What was that mistake?

That when the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص shared a secret with you, you should have kept it as a secret, you should not

have let it out, you should not have shared it with even one person.

So, you see sometimes we say something and that causes the heart to be deviated. So,it’s very important

that we check our words and also the state of our heart.

….. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allah is his protector, and Jibreel and the

righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants.

5: Perhaps his Lord, if the Prophet divorced you [all]….

So the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص are being warned over here that never do this again that:

…. if the Prophet divorced you, Allah would substitute for him wives better than you….

Others can take your place, don’t think that you are irreplaceable. And what are the qualities of good

women? Those:

…. submitting [to Allah], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling [or

fasting women] - [ones] previously married and also virgins.

Meaning that doesn’t matter, what matters is إيمان and تقوى and عمل صالح.

Page 67: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Allah addresses the believers:

Fire whose fuel is people and stones….

O believers save yourselves and your families from the fire. You should not be cooperating in sin, you

should be protecting each other from sin, why? Because otherwise the consequence will be fire and

what is this fire? What is fuelling it? People and stones! Which stones?

Ibn Masood said: “They are of كبريت, sulphur, which were created the day the heavens and the earth

were created”

And do you know how flammable the sulphur is? How flammable it is? It is so flammable!

…. over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He

commands them but do what they are commanded.

Who are these people who are being warned? ‘نا نيح أ مح ذه That you better do something to save yourself ’اليح

because if you don’t, even though you have إيمان, you might end up in the fire.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“The religion will become dominant; it will prevail and it will spread across the seas until horses are

heavily used in the way of Allah….

Meaning one event will lead to another, one battle to another

…. until Muslim lands will spread….

Meaning they will increase, they will grow.

…. then a people will come who will read the قرآن and when they will have read it they will say:

ا“ نحي مه أ قرحح حن أ

أ رح د قح ?than us قرآن whose read more ,قرآن They will say, “We’ve read the - قح

أقرأ منامن - Who knows more than us?

Meaning they will constantly compare themselves with others and say, “I know the most قرآن I’ve read

it, or she hasn’t read it, or she doesn’t do the course, she hasn’t taken the course, she hasn’t memorised,

I’ve memorised, he doesn’t know, he doesn’t know, he doesn’t know, I know.” Being proud about this.

…. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص asked the صحابه, “Do you see any good in these people? The صحابه said, “No.”

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said, “They will be from you, from this Ummah and they will be the fuel of the fire.”

Page 68: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

They will be the fuel of the fire!

So, we should always be afraid, never, ever feeling proud about the fact that we have read the قرآن or

that we have memorised it, or that we have known its meanings that we know better and we know more

than other people and thus we are always pointing fingers at other people. No, never, ever be proud of

your knowledge that ‘I know the most,’ this is extremely dangerous because this is something that will

lead a person to Hellfire.

7: O you who have disbelieved, make no excuses that Day. You will only be recompensed for

what you used to do.

نا :8 نيح أ مح ذهحا اليح يي

.…O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance.… يح أ ح

Believers are being addressed, every single believer, every single person, every single one of u needs to

think of who? Ourselves, right now! Think of yourself! ‘I need to repent to Allah sincerely, because I

do have faults in me.’

….. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath

which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed

with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right….

Light before them and light on their right !

…. they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all

things competent."

Where the excuses of some people will not be accepted, others will be forgiven and rewarded for their

deeds. Who are they? Those who have pure إيمان, those who repent to Allah with sincerity, being

honest with themselves, being true to Allah and such people will be saved. When will they be saved?

When is it that they will be given light? On the صراط where everyone has to go on the صراط, Allah will

give them light in front of them and light on their right.

This is where the Prophets of Allah will be saying: “ هم لي ح هم

لي ح ح همي O Allah save us, save us” And - الليح

Allah will save them and Allah will also save some other people. But who are those people? Those

who repent to Allah!

9: O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And

their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص never really waged war against the hypocrites with swords and arrows, rather he was

harsh with them through علم, through teaching.

Page 69: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

10: Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut.

They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so those prophets did not avail

them from Allah at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter."

These are women whose husbands were prophets, righteous men, pious men, and this shows that the

husband’s piety does not benefit the wife if she herself is not pious. The piety of the parents is not

helpful. Because sometimes we think, “Yeah my husband, yeah, he gives صدقة” I need to give صدقة

too. “Yeah my husband goes to the مسجد and he prays قيام الليل sometimes.” I need to do it too.

Each and everyone of us, we need to do it too because look over here, the wives did not benefit from the

of their husbands even though their husbands were prophets of Allah. This is something very إيمان

frightening. We need to think about our own عمل.

11: And Allah presents an example of those who believed: the wife of فرعون, when she said….

يتا كح بح ندح بيه انبه له عه ةه رح حنيح My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save".… فه ال

me from فرعون and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people."

12: And [the example of] Mariam, the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We

blew into [her garment] through Our angel, and she believed in the words of her Lord and His

scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.

Asiya was a lady, who was extremely patient, extremely patient.

We learn in a حديث Abu Hurarah رضي هللا عنه, he said that: “فرعون nailed his wife in both her hands

and both her feet with spikes… with spikes, with huge nails”. So basically, pinned her to the ground or

to the wall, however this was so that she would not be able to move, didn’t tie her, nailed her in her

hands and her feet.

… and when they would leave her…

Meaning his people would leave her because he had guards constantly making sure nobody would come

and give anything to Asiya, not even a sip of water, nothing at all! Nobody helps her. So, when they

would go for their own break:

….. the angels would shade her and she said:

يح الهمهمه الظيح ح القح نه مه يه

حن لههه وح ح عح نح وح نه مه فهرعح يه

حن ةه وح حنيح

يتا فه ال كح بح ندح بيه انبه له عه رح

…. So Allah removed the veil of the unseen for her and showed her, her house in جنة.

Page 70: Lesson 28: Al-Mujadalah - Al-Tahrim PART-A AL-MUJADALAHdata.alhudamedia.com/Media/Al-Quran/Fahm_al-Quran/FQ2015... · 2019-12-30 · Juzz # 28 ن أرقلامهف 2015 انم لبقت

Allah showed her, her house in جنة. This is an example for who? A woman whose husband is abusive.

Abusive because of what? Because of her دين. Should she compromise, should she give up her دين?

Look at the length that Asiya went to. Allah showed her, her house in نيحة .جح

Then the other example is of Mariam, who was also the best of women. What did she do? She guarded

her chastity, her modesty, she did not commit any نح and for any young woman, this is really a حرام any ,زه

victory that she keeps herself chaste. This is really a victory, this is an accomplishment not just today

but in all times, this has been the case. We think today فتنة is a lot, فتنة was always a lot because men

have always liked women and women have always liked men. This is something that has existed from

the beginning. So a woman who manages to stay away from حرام relationships then really this is a

victory.

And secondly we see, Mariam, she was educated, learned of the words of Allah and she was devoutly,

consistently worshipping of her Lord. So may Allah سبحانه تعالى make us like these women also; patient,

steadfast, firm, learned, knowledgeable, chaste and ultimately devout, to who? Allah, our master.

Devoutly obedient, continuously obedient to Allah عزوجل because this is the example that has been

given for us.

Alright, I would like you all to stand up please, share a good word with the person standing next to you.

And if you do not know what to say, then do تسبيح. So, anything you would like to share with

everybody else?

That Allah is giving us the example of Mariam, that she was knowledgeable, she knew the دهني, because

ت ‘ قحديح she confirmed the words of her Lord. The words are what? The words which Allah has ’صح

revealed, right? And how is that possible if she didn’t know them, so she was knowledgeable. And this

shows to us as women, yes, of course we need to guard our chastity that is extremely important and in

addition to that as a woman our priority should also be to learn the دهني and then also learn to be patient.

Women have to have that رب its essential. These three things if we can learn, because all of this ,صح

essentially, this is being obedient to Allah سبحانه تعالى.

So may Allah سبحانه تعالى make us among such women.
