Lesson 7: Tithing and Giving – You Can’t Out-Give God! Part 2

This sermon is a continuation of our previous sermon on tithing. 오늘

I am going to start the sermon with an overview slide. 개괄 슬라이드를

Christians must be taught to tithe. It is an act of faith.



The first part of this sermon is a short review. 이 설교의 첫 부분은 지난

But most of the rest of the message emphasizes what we find in the New

Testament on giving; and how church finances are properly conducted in the

Local Church. 2

You may not realize it; but there are some people who say that they are New

Testament Christians; and because of that, that they don’t have to tithe.

In other words; they say that tithing is ‘just’ for the Old Testament. 3 다시

I want to show you a verse on giving, that has no limits. 5 헌금에 대한 한

구절을 보여드리고자 합니다.

This is a New Testament verse. It is a great verse to memorize.

이것은 신약의 구절인데, 암송하기 좋은 구절입니다.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed

down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your

bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be

measured to you again.

38주라. 그리하면 너희에게 줄 것이니 곧 후히 되어 누르고 함께

흔들고 넘치게 하여 사람들이 너희 품에 안겨 주리라. 너희가 잴 때

쓰는 바로 그 척도로 너희가 다시 평가를 받으리라, 하시니라.

I use this illustration when speaking on this verse. 이 구절을 말할 때

A long time ago, when I was young 오래 전, 제가 젊었을 때

My lovely wife and I visited a Baptist Church in Korea.

제 아내와 저는 한국의 한 침례교회를 방문했습니다.

When it came time for lunch, the Korean kitchen lady saw that I was a

foreigner, and she gave me some extra rice in the bowl.

5 Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me

now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a

blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].10만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 너희는 모든

십일조를 창고로 가져와 내 집에 먹을 것이 있게 하고 이제 그것으로 나를 시험하여 내가 너희를 위해

하늘의 창들을 열고 받을 곳이 없도록 너희에게 복을 쏟아 붓지 아니하나 보라.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall

your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.11만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 내가

너희를 위하여 먹어 삼키는 자를 꾸짖으리니 그가 너희 땅의 열매를 멸하지 못하리라. 또 너희

포도나무가 때가 이르기 전에 자기 열매를 밭에 떨어뜨리지 아니하리니

12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.12너희가

심히 기쁜 땅이 되므로 모든 민족들이 너희를 복 받은 자라 하리라. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라.



점심 시간에 되었을 때, 주방을 담당하던 한국 자매는 제가 외국인임을

보고, 그릇에 밥을 특별히 많이 덜어주었습니다.

She was using a rice paddle to smash the rice into the aluminum bowl.

그녀는 알미늄 그릇에 주걱으로 밥을 꾹꾹 눌러담았습니다.

She was a strong lady. 그녀는 강한 여인이었습니다.

And she was trying to be kind to a foreigner. 그녀는 외국인에게

친절하려고 노력하였습니다.

She had a wooden rice paddle in her hand. 그녀는 손에 나무주걱을 들고

있었습니다.

She had strong arm muscles. 강력한 팔 근육을 가지고 있었습니다.

Strong Korean, ‘wooden, rice paddle’ arm muscles! 강력한 나무주걱

팔근육을 가진 한국 여인.

[Maybe you have seen some of these ladies?] 이런 자매님들 본 적이

있으실 것입니다.

You do not argue with a woman like that! 그런 여인과 다투지 않는

것이 좋습니다.

I think she pressed 3 x the amount of rice into that small bowl as it was

originally designed for. 그녀는 그 작은 그릇에 원래 담을 수 있는 양의

세 배는 눌러 담은 것 같습니다.

When she pressed it down, she twisted her hand so that she could get more

rice into the bowl. And, she grinned as she did it! 밥을 누르면서 손을

비틀어, 그릇에 조금이라도 더 밥을 담으려고 했습니다.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed

down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your

If I, if we give, what will God do? [He’ll give back.]. 만일 제가, 우리가

드린다면, 하나님께서 어떻게 하십니까? (돌려 주십니다.)

You can not out-give God. 여러분은 하나님께 결코 받을 것 보다 더

드릴 수 없습니다.

good measure, [That means there will be plenty of rice!]

pressed down, and [Just like that kind Korean grandmother … that

rice will be pressed down.] 누르고 (친절한 한국의 할머니처럼… 밥이

눌려집니다)

shaken together, and [and, just like that kind Korean grandmother, it

will be ‘shaken together’] 흔들고 (친절한 한국의 할머니처럼,

흔들어집니다)



running over, shall men give into your bosom. 넘치게 하여 사람들이

너희 품에 안겨 주리라.

[Running over !!!!] [Grin]. 넘칩니다!!! (씩 웃음)

[Shall men give unto your bosom]. 사람들이 너희 품에 안겨 주리라.

Missionary, we have never heard any preaching on tithing like that before!

선교사님, 우리는 전에 이런 십일조 설교를 들어 본 적이 없어요!

If we start tithing; are we going to become ‘crazy; like you are?’

우리가 십일조를 시작하면, 당신처럼 미친 사람이 될까요?

I am going to give you some other Scriptural examples of giving, from

the New Testament. 저는 여러분에게 신약에 나오는 헌금의 예들을

보여드리겠습니다.

We will turn now to Matthew Chapter 23: 마태복음 23장으로

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay

tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters]

of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not

to leave the other undone.

23서기관들과 바리새인들, 위선자들아, 너희에게 화가 있을지어다!

너희가 박하와 회향과 근채의 십일조는 바치되 율법의 더 중대한

문제인 판단의 공의와 긍휼과 믿음은 무시하였도다. 너희가 마땅히

이것들을 행하였어야 하거니와 다른 것도 행하지 않은 채 내버려 두지

말아야 하느니라.

The Pharisees were sticklers. 바리새인들을 까다로운

사람이었습니다.

They wanted to follow the law … ‘dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s’.

그들은 율법을 따르고자 하였습니다 … ???



[ These Pharisees would make a perfect hat on top of a hiyut. [ㅎ] ]

이 바리새인들은 “ㅎ” 자 위에 완벽한 모자를 만들려고 했습니다.

or ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the

weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye

to have done 너희가 박하와 회향과 근채의 십일조는 바치되 율법의

더 중대한 문제인 판단의 공의와 긍휼과 믿음은 무시하였도다.

너희가 마땅히 이것들을 행하였어야 하거니와

They were tithing according to the law. 그들은 율법에 따라 십일로를

드렸습니다.

They were even tithing specific spices. 그들은 특정 향신료에 대한

십일조도 드렸습니다.

Have you ever tried to count anise, or cumin [or Rue]? 여러분은 회향,

근채나 운향을 세어 본 적이 있습니까?

The seeds are very small. 씨앗은 아주 작습니다.

So what is the tithe? [10%, (IDK)] 그럼 십일조는 몇 개 해야 하나요?

(10%, 몰라요)

The Pharisees were using tweezers to count small seeds.

바리새인들은 작은 씨앗을 세려고 트위저를 사용했습니다.

They were really paying attention to the small stuff. 그들은 작은

것에도 아주 신경을 썼습니다.

But the Pharisees were also totally ignoring taking care of their parents. 8

Corban: G2878 κορβαν, κορβανας korban korbanas kor-ban', kor-ban-as'’Of Hebrew and Chaldee origin

respectively [H7133]; a votive offering and the offering; a consecrated present (to the Temple fund); by

extension (the latter term) the Treasury itself, that is, the room where the contribution boxes stood: - Corban,

treasury. Total KJV occurrences: 2

Corban: “Corban A Hebrew word adopted into the Greek of the New Testament and left

untranslated. It occurs only once (Mar_7:11). It means a gift or offering consecrated to God. Anything

over which this word was once pronounced was irrevocably dedicated to the temple. Land, however,

so dedicated might be redeemed before the year of jubilee (Lev_27:16-24). Our Lord condemns the

Pharisees for their false doctrine, inasmuch as by their traditions they had destroyed the

commandment which requires children to honour their father and mother, teaching them to find



하지만 바리새인들은 그들의 부모를 돌보는 것을 완전히

무시했습니다.

Now, in this New Testament verse; The Lord commends the tithe and

says ‘these ought ye to have done’ 이 신약 구절에서, 주님은

“너희들은 마땅히 이것들을 행하였어야 하거니와”라고 말씀하시며

십일조를 하라고 권하십니다.

Meaning, they should tithe. 9 너희들은 십일조를 해야 한다는

뜻입니다.

But the Pharisees were ‘cutting corners’ with respect to taking care of their

parents.

하지만 바리새인들은 부모들을 돌보는 일에 관해서 “귀퉁이를 잘라”먹고

있었습니다.

The Lord pronounced ‘Woe’ on them for that. 주님은 그 일로 그들에게 화가

있을지어다 라고 말하셨습니다.

I am simply making the point here; that The Lord commended the tithe.

여기서 요점은, 주님께서 십일조를 하라고 말씀하셨다는 것입니다.

Now let’s go to the Gospel of Luke, to compare another New Testament verse:

이제 누가복음으로 가서, 다른 신약성경 구절과 비교해 봅시다.

Luke 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all

manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye

to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

excuse from helping their parents by the device of pronouncing “Corban” over their goods, thus

reserving them to their own selfish use.” Easton’s Bible Dictionary. 9 Why? God is Holy. God’s Word is Holy. The Tithe is holy. This is all review. The Tithe is Holy: Ref:

Again, we see the same principle. 여기에서도 같은 원칙이 보입니다.

The Lord Jesus commends the tithe; but says that the Pharisees were ‘and

pass[ing] over judgment and the love of God’: 주님께서는 십일조를 하라

하셨지만, 바리새인들은 판단의 공의와 하나님의 사랑을 건너뛰고

있었습니다.

the Pharisees were ‘passing over judgment’. 바리새인들은 판단의 공의를

넘어갔습니다.

They were making a scriptural excuse for not taking care of their parents.

그들은 부모를 돌보지 않는데 대해 성경을 들어가며 변명하였습니다.

I have given two verses in the New Testament where The Lord Jesus

commended the tithe. 저는 주님께서 십일조를 하라고 말씀하신 신약성경의

두 구절을 보여드렸습니다.

The tithe is a ‘systematic’ 10% (or a tenth) of an amount. 십일조는

자동적으로 금액의 10% (십 분의 일)입니다.

Let’s turn now to 1 Corinthians Chapter 16. 이제 고린도전서 16장을

보겠습니다.

1 Corinthians 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have

given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.

1이제 성도들을 위한 모금에 관하여는 내가 갈라디아의 교회들에

지시한 바와 같이 너희도 그렇게 하라.

Collection: contribution [nowadays, we call it an offering]. 11

모금: 기부금 (오늘날은, 이것을 헌금으로 부릅니다)

The Apostle Paul gave an order. 사도바울은 명령하였습니다.

2 Upon the first [day] of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as

[God] hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

2주의 첫날에 너희 각 사람이 [하나님]께서 자기를 형통하게 하신 대로

자기 곁에 모아 두어 내가 갈 때에 모으는 일이 없게 하라.

The first day of the week is Sunday; it is called The Lord’s Day.

Lay by him in store. What does that mean? 자기 곁에 모아 두어. 무슨

뜻입니까?

- It means to: Make plans to give. 헌금을 미리 계획하라는

뜻입니다.

- It generally means to: Make your giving systematic.

헌금을 체계적으로 드리라는 뜻입니다.

- [For Example: Every payday weekend]. 12

예를 들면, 급여를 받는 날이 속한 주말에 드림

For example; from every paycheck, take 10% off the top and give

that tithe to the local church.

예를 들면, 월급명세서의 맨 위에서 10%를 지역교회에

십일조로 드리기

How much? 얼마를 드리나요?

As much as God has prospered you. 하나님께서 당신을 형통하게 하신

만큼

Prospered: “to help on the road”. 13

형통하게 하다: 길에서 돕다.

By way of review; twice in the New Testament, we have seen verses where the Lord Jesus has commended the

tithe.

3 And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by [your] letters, them will I send to bring your liberality

unto Jerusalem.



One more point this morning is on cheerful giving. 오늘 아침 강조할 또 한

가지는 기쁘게 드리는 것입니다.

2 Corinthians 9:6 But this [I say], He which soweth sparingly shall reap

also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

6다만 내가 말하려는 바는 이것이니 곧 인색하게 뿌리는 자는 또한

인색하게 거둘 것이요, 풍성하게 뿌리는 자는 또한 풍성하게

거두리라는 것이라.

Sparingly: Stingily. 14

인색하게: 괴로워하며

[The Missionary will demonstrate this with a piece of money.]

선교사는 돈을 가지고 이것을 시연해보인다.

Bountifully: Benefit, largess. 15

풍성하게: 은혜, 많음

Here is a promise. You can not out-give God. 여기에 약속이 있습니다.

당신은 하나님께 받은 것 보다 많이 드릴 수 없습니다.

3내가 가면 너희가 너희의 편지로 인정하는 자들이 누구든지 내가 그들을 예루살렘으로 보내어

너희의 너그러운 선물을 가지고 가게 하리라.

4 And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.

4또한 만일 나도 가는 것이 합당하거든 그들이 나와 함께 가리라.

I made the point in the first sermon on tithing that many of God’s Promises are an incentive. Tithing is an

act of faith. It seems too hard to tithe; when you start. But, when you see how God blesses, you want to

tithe.

that is, stingily: - sparingly. Total KJV occurrences: 2 15

Bountifully: G2129 ευλογια eulogia yoo-log-ee'-ah From the same as G2127; fine speaking, that is, elegance

of language; commendation (“eulogy”), that is, (reverentially) adoration; religiously, benediction; by

implication consecration; by extension benefit or largess: - blessing (a matter of) bounty (X -tifully), fair speech.

Total KJV occurrences: 16



7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, [so let him give]; not

grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

7저마다 자기 마음속에 정한 대로 낼 것이요, 마지못해 하거나 억지로

하지 말지니 [하나님]은 즐거이 내는 자를 사랑하시느니라. 16

8 And God [is] able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always

having all sufficiency in all [things], may abound to every good work:

8 [하나님]께서 능히 모든 은혜를 너희에게 넘치게 하시나니 이것은

너희가 항상 모든 일에서 모든 것이 넉넉하여 모든 선한 일을 풍성히

하게 하려 하심이라.

We have seen before that God sees what we give. 하나님께서는 우리가

드리는 것을 보고 계신다는 것을 전에 보았습니다.

He knows our hearts. 그분께서는 우리의 마음을 알고 계십니다.

9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his

righteousness remaineth for ever.

16 Purpose in your heart to give systematically. Be cheerful when you give. We don’t do this for show. At IIBC,

we have offering baskets, and we have an offering box. You can use any one you want; as you want. We use

two man control, when we count our money. We don’t give for others to see. We give by faith. That faith means

that we know that we cannot out-give God.

Rebuking the devourer can be significant.



9 (이것은 기록된바, 그가 널리 재물을 흩어 가난한 자들에게 주었으니

그의 의가 영원히 지속되는도다, 함과 같으니라. 17

10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for [your]

food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your

righteousness;)

10씨 뿌리는 자에게 씨를 제공하시는 분께서 이제 너희 양식으로 빵도

제공하시고 너희가 뿌린 씨도 번성하게 하시며 너희의 의의 열매도

늘어나게 하시리니)

We looked before that tithing puts strong meat into the house of God.

십일조는 하나님의 집에 강한 음식이 차려지게 한다는 것은 전에

보았습니다.

We have mentioned before that that means strong, Holy Spirit filled

preaching. 그것은 강력한 성령이 충만한 설교를 뜻한다고

언급하였습니다.

We see here that it ministers seed. 여기서 그 설교가 씨를 제공한다는

17 Some of your rewards for giving and tithing will be in this life. Others will be in the next life. Everlasting

blessings. He will rebuke the devourer when we tithe. Our 90% will go farther, because He rebukes the devourer.

Now, if you are not saved; tithing isn’t necessary at all. You have a bigger problem to deal with. The first thing

that you need to do is to get saved; then get baptized by immersion. [Romans 3:10, 3:23, 5:12, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9-

10, 13.]

18 We have, through our IIBC missionary ministry right now, Gospel Literature being translated into seven

languages. They are: Korean, Chinese, Mongol, Zambian (4 languages), Thai, Portuguese, and Farsi. We want

to have The Lord ‘multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness’.



It also ministers multiplication in ministry results. 그것은 또한 사역의

I am not passing judgment on the loan. I AM saying; it is time to BEGIN paying down the principal on the

loan. One of the jobs of a missionary when ‘helping’ a local church, is to set things in order.

3. We all need to exercise our Spiritual Gifts AT IIBC. 23

INVITATION: Every head bowed and every eye closed, please. Christians:

Confess known sin; then pray for God to bless the Invitation.

Three questions:

1. Are you saved?

Are you born again from above.

If You died today are your 100% sure that you would go to heaven.

If you are not saved, we would love to take a Bible and show you how you can know for sure that you are saved.

2. Have you been baptized by immersion, since salvation, in a church of

like faith and practice?

If you are saved and have not yet been baptized by immersion, I would

like you to let Pastor Tchah know that this morning.

The Lord Jesus was baptized by immersion by John The Baptist.

The Disciples and Apostles were baptized by Immersion.

The Lord Jesus commanded his disciples to preach and teach the Gospel,

baptizing those who got saved. 24

Baptism therefore, is a command to be obeyed.

There is nothing to be nervous about. We are family and friends here.

3. Are you ready to meet God?

a. We all should be ready to pray, to give testimony about the Lord,

or to pass away.

b. Is there any bitterness on your heart?

c. Is there any sin that you need to confess to God, silently, as you

pray?

If you need to come to the altar to pray, the invitation is open to you.

‘Share your lunch’ giving:

John 6:5 When Jesus then lifted up [his] eyes, and saw a great company

Only one mother in Israel packed her son a lunch.

Only one lad was listening to the Lord’s question – and offered a solution



by faith.

Only five loaves and two fishes fed five thousand [plus] with The Lord’s

blessing.

That section of Scripture shows that you can not out-give God.

Now one more example from Scripture (the New Testament) on giving.



‘Last mite’ giving:

Luke 21:4 1And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into

the treasury.

1그분께서 위를 보시며 부자들이 성전 보고에 예물을 넣는 것을 보시고

2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

2또 어떤 가난한 과부가 거기에 이 렙돈을 넣는 것도 보시고

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in

more than they all:

3이르시되, 진실로 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 이 가난한 과부가 그들

모두보다 더 많이 넣었도다.

4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but

she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

4이들은 다 풍족한 가운데서 [하나님]의 헌물로 넣었거니와 그 과부는

빈궁한 가운데서 자기가 가진 생활비 전부를 넣었느니라, 하시니라.

God knows all that we give.

You can’t out give God.

This lady gave all she had.

A good place to start giving is with the tithe,
