•Grid reference is a number which represents the location of a place on a grid.

Sometimes, a 4 - figure grid reference does not give the exact location of a place.

For example, on Map 1, both pig farm 1 and 2 are on the grid square 1224. It does not tell us the exact location of the pig farm 1and 2. To be more exact, we use a 6 - grid reference.

To do this, we divide each grid square into ten smaller squares numbered from 1 to 9.
