Welcome back Miss Ryan! Miss Ryan has returned from leave this week, joining Year 1 again for the remainder of the year. Mrs Conlan will continue to teach the class on Mondays and Tuesdays, with Miss Ryan teaching the class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Both teachers would like to encourage parents to swing by the classroom if they have any questions, or would like to see what the class is currently working on. 3 Way Conferences Online booking is available to book a time for your three way conference in week 4. Simply follow the link below to book your time. If you require support or do not have access to the internet, please call the school and we will gladly assist you in booking your appointment. https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code?code=aqjqr Farewell Jakaylah From all of us at Yenda Public School, we would like to wish Jakaylah all the very best in her new school adventure at Kalinda School. We are so proud of all that she has achieved, and the amazing person that she is. She will be missed at Yenda Public. Thank you to Mrs Kirkman and Year 2/3 for all of the wonderful memories that she will carry with her.

Education Week 2018

This year Yenda Public School will be celebrating Education Week with a number of events throughout the week.

School Leaders Award Presentation School Leaders will be presented with an award by Director Educational Leadership, Mr David Lamb at a ceremony at the Exies Bagtown Inn. Mrs Wallace will accompany the School Leaders to this event. Learning in Action – Classroom visits Parents and community members are invited to come into their child’s classroom between 10am and 11am on Friday 10 August to see what learning looks like in the classroom. All classes will be engaged in literacy sessions, with the teacher working with the students, therefore individual discussion will not be possible. This is an opportunity for students and teachers to showcase their learning partnership in literacy, and give parents a visual idea of how learning occurs every day. Picnic Morning Tea Following the Learning in Action – Classroom visits, parents and community members are invited to bring a picnic to share with their child/ren during recess. Recess commences at 11am. Bring a picnic blanket, rug or sit at a table and share a lovely snack with our students! Education Week Assembly Yenda Public School will celebrate the achievements of our students and teachers with a special assembly on Friday 10 August, at 11.30am. The Dance Group and Choir will be performing at the assembly to showcase our creative and performing arts skills. We would love for as many parents and community members as possible to join us and celebrate our students success.

Welcome to the weekly ‘Code Corner’, where we will be looking at different elements of literacy learning! Visual Processing Visual processing describes a person’s ability to interpret and understand what their eyes see. There are a number of things that make up a person’s visual processing ability, including: • Sensory Processing: Accurate registration,

interpretation and response to sensory stimulation in the environment and the child’s own body.

• Visual Attention: The ability to focus on important visual information and filter out unimportant background information.

• Visual Discrimination: The ability to determine differences or similarities in objects based on size, colour, shape, etc.

• Visual Memory: The ability to recall visual traits of a form or object.

• Visual Spatial Relation Ships: Understanding the relationships of objects within the environment.

• Visual Sequential-Memory: The ability to recall a sequence of objects in the correct order.

• Visual Figure Ground: The ability to locate something in a busy background.

• Visual Form Constancy: The ability to know that a form or shape is the same, even if it has been made smaller/larger or has been turned around.

• Visual Closure: The ability to recognise a form or object when part of the picture is missing.

To strengthen our students visual processing abilities, we spend a small amount of time daily practicing the skills required to track objects, colours and letters across a page, concentrating on accuracy and fluency. This practice is having a positive impact on our students reading ability.
