Principal’s Report

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Yenda Agenda! It is the end to another busy and wonderful term at Yenda Public School, which we have celebrated with the biennual school concert. The theme ‘Escape to Everywhere’ saw us travel through the imaginations of all of our students in a spectacular showcase of talent and fun. Graeme Base Writing Competition

To celebrate National Literacy and Numeracy Week, students from year 3 – 6 were invited to participate in a writing competition to win a chance to travel to Wagga with Mrs Wallace to meet Graeme Base. Students were required to select one of the following tasks:

- Create a Graeme Base style picture book

- Create an alternate book cover for a Graeme Base book

- Write an alternate ending for a Graeme Base story

With 6 tickets on offer to students, they participated enthusiastically to be one of the lucky people to meet Graeme Base.

Students from year 6 at Beelbangera Public School critiqued the entries to judge the winners. It was decided that all of the entries were unique, well constructed and worthy of winning the prize.

In a plot twist, we were able to secure more tickets, and are now able to take all students who entered. Students will travel to Wagga on Thursday 12th October to attend a workshop and talk with Graeme Base.

Congratulations everyone!

Kidz Konnect

On Monday, Mrs Chilvers ran the very first Kidz Konnect session. It was a lovely sunny morning, just perfect for playing outside. Children were engaged in gross motor activities, playdough, craft and a story. They spent time reading ‘Where is the Green Sheep’ and participating in associated activities.

The parents enjoyed a catch up and a cuppa in the sunshine while the little ones played.

The next come and try session is on Monday 16th October.

Stage 3 Cyber Safety

Senior Constable Glen Clarke paid a visit to our year 5 and 6 students on Friday 22nd September to deliver a presentation on bullying, cyber safety and online risks. The students were highly engaged in the discussions around bullying, harassment, assault and the consequences of these actions. The students were also challenged on their knowledge of the risks associated with social media and internet use, highlighting the need for parents to be actively involved in their child’s use of social media and the internet. They took away the key message of ‘make good choices’. Yenda Public School will continue to work with the Police to ensure that a holistic approach to safety is included in the school curriculum, and to provide support to families in managing growing children in the 21st century.
