Page 1 NAIDOC week activities and Family Assembly This week we have been celebrating NAIDOC week at Bullimbal. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This years theme - Because of Her, We Can! - celebrates the essential role that women have played and continue to play as active and significant role modes at the community local state and national levels. A range of Cultural and art activities were conducted in classes throughout the week. We have also been joined by students From Peel High School to work with a group of our students on a NAIDOC dance which was performed at our Family Assembly held today. Congratulations to our dancers on a wonderful performance. A special thanks to Manduway Dutton who has played an integral role in leading music, dance, art and cultural activities throughout the week. Thanks also to our special guests from Birralee Preschool, KADS - Kamilaroi Ageing and Disability Services, Zeta Knight and Natalie Briggs from NDIS, and our very own Rosie Armstrong who is the CEO and Founder of Dhabiyaanbaa Maarumali Consultancy. Her resources strive to bring back to people a sense of belonging to achieve healing outcomes and togetherness through culture. Rosalie’s work is a modality which embeds cultural strength, Oneness with country, Love and Resilience. Rosalie believes that these attributes are the essence of who we are as first nations soverign people. As a special treat Rosie has kindly included a Yanay Strength card from her Yinarr Wii healing resource. Thank you also to our wonderful P & C for organising the Family Assembly BBQ for us. Tamworth Running Festival Organisers from the Tamworth Running Festival have kindly agreed to once again donate the proceeds from this year’s event to Bullimbal School. The running festival will be on Sunday 5 th August. It incorporates a variety of events including a 4km walk, 5km run, 10km run and Half Marathon. Previously the school has organised a group of families to do the 4km walk which was a great success. We are asking if there are families or extended friends of the Bullimbal community that would like to join our Bullimbal 4km walk group. Parents and Carers and extended family and friends are welcome to attend. For more information please contact the school. Tickets at $10 Our recent Pie drive was a great success. Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser. As a result of your efforts we raised approx $400 for the school. Our next meeting: 9th August at 10:30am. We hope to see you there. Facematch Parent Information Session

Dr Tracy Dudding-Byth Clinical Geneticist within the NSW Genetics of Learning Disability Service is providing

a parent presentation to discuss advances in genetic testing and the recent launch of the International FaceMatch Project [facematch.org.au]. This Project is the first of its kind to use advanced computer face-matching technology to match the faces of children with moderate to severe intellectual disability who remain undiagnosed following genomic sequencing. Up to 50% of these individuals have facial features which can provide a clue to diagnosis. By matching faces from around the world, the research team hope to be able to match people with the same rare genetic conditions. Enrolment can be initiated by a parent. Parents of children with known genetic diagnoses are also invited to participate. Dr Dudding-Byth will not be taking any photographs of children during this educational presentation.
