Greetings Sorors, March is always a special month for Delta as we celebrate the blessing of a wonderful sisterhood of college educated women dedicated to scholarship and service. March is also Women's History Month. There are many Delta women who have been and are currently trail blazers in their industry. Sorors like Alexis Canady, the first female and African American Neurosurgeon; Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the first female elected Bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and, Savannah Alumnae’s own Edna Branch Jackson, the first African American female Mayor of Savannah. Many more of our chapter members are making history every day, leaving their mark on this community, our country and the world. In every sector, public or private, a Delta woman is either leading the charge or behind the scenes working diligently to push the dream forward. From the halls of the Savannah Chatham County Board of Education to the halls of Savannah government; from Savannah State University to Georgia Southern University, Statesboro and Armstrong Campus, Delta women are there. We are leading the charge from Memorial Health University Medical Center to St. Joseph's Candler Health System and we are leaders in the armed forces and at the Corp of Engineers and we are entrepreneurs contributing to the economic power of African Americans in this community. Most importantly, we are members of THE Sisterhood called to serve! You the members of Savannah Alumnae Chapter are “Impacting Lives and Changing Communities” with your time, talent, and giving hearts. It is you who do the work to make Savannah a better place to live, work and prosper. Continue to make strides, change lives, impact our community, and live the best life you can live each day in grand Delta style! With Love and Devotion to Delta, S Laura N. HEALTH & HEALINGFive Tips for Your Fridge Makeover 1. Vegetables - Try incorporating green, red, orange, and yellow vegetables into your diet. Pair veggies with your favorite dips, such as carrots with hummus or celery with peanut butter.

2. Nuts and nut butters - These will last longer when stored in the fridge. Try walnuts, almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, or cashews.

3. Fruit - Remember that fresh, frozen, dried, and canned fruits all count. Add a tablespoon of raisins or dried apricots to your morning oatmeal.

4. Eggs - Use a mug to scramble eggs for a quick breakfast or snack. Toss in raw veggies and a tablespoon of cheese for added flavor!

5. Salsa - A fresh salsa with tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro, and onions is a fun and yummy way to incorporate veggies into your diet.

Be sure to chat with your dietitian or nutrit ionist i f you have questions about what nutrients are right for you.

Cooking for Your Family You can easily prepare foods for a large family without spending a lot of money. Try these tips to save time, money, and stress when making meals for your friends or family.

1. Keep it simple. Healthy and creative meals don't have to be complicated. A simpler menu will usually cost less money and will be easier to prepare in the end.

2. Allow your family to help. Divide jobs among family members. Remember -- kids love to be in the kitchen! With help, you can get more done and have more time to enjoy with your family.

3. Stretch recipes by adding ingredients. Get more servings out of your favorite recipes! Add rice to soups or stews, frozen vegetables to favorite pasta dishes, or beans to burgers to serve more meals.

4. Options for the holidays. Try having a holiday brunch. Breakfast foods like eggs are less expensive and make a great protein for the main dish.  Another fun idea is to have a yogurt parfait bar, where everyone can add their favorite toppings to yogurt.

5. Make it a potluck. Potlucks are a great option for large families. If you are hosting, prepare the main dish and leave the sides to the

SOCIAL ACTIONDear Sorors of Savannah Alumnae Chapter,

I recently returned from the 29th annual Delta Days at the Nation’s Capitol. This year’s theme was Power in our Voices: Delta we are the Change. What an amazing experience!

Approximately 1,200 sorors descended upon our Nation’s Captiol to become informed on issues that are impacting the African American community. Some of the hot topics discussed were: human trafficking, voter suppression, gun violence, school to prison pipeline, and healthcare.

During my time in Washington, DC I had the honor of attending the Omega Omega ceremony for our 14th National President, Frankie Muse Freeman. During that ceremony, I was reminded of her many accomplishments. Soror Freeman was a women, who gave a voice to many who felt like they would never be heard.

The highlight of my trip was seeing over 1,000 women dressed in red standing on the steps of our Nation’s Capitol. It reminded me of our sorority’s legacy and the torch that we have to carry to make sure our legacy continues to shine bright for many years to come. Now, let us work together to be the change in our community.
