function, reliability,and safety in mind. It is your responsibility
toinstall it in conformance with local electricalcodes. For safe
operation, please payattention to the alert signals throughout

This manual contains important operating and
safety information. The user must carefullyread and understand
the contents of thismanual prior to the use of this equipment.
WarningsTo avoid electrical shock, always:
1. Use a properly grounded electricaloutlet of correct voltage
and currenthandling capacity.
2. Disconnect from the power supplyprior to maintenance and
servicing.

2. Keep top surface clean. Use a non-abrasive cleaner. Alkali
spills, hydro-fluoric acid spills or phosphoric acidspills may
damage top and lead tothermal failure. Unplug unit andremove spills
promptly. Do notimmerse unit for cleaning.

6. Use caution when heating volatile mate-rials; top surface and
element can reachthe Flash Point Temperature of manychemicals.
These stirring hot plates arenot explosion proof. Fire or
explosionmay result. Unit contains componentswhich may ignite such
materials.
7. Use appropriate hand and eye protec-tion when handling
hazardous chemi-cals.
8. Gross weight of items placed on top ofHot Plates should not
exceed 25 lbs.(11.4 kg.) on the 7 x 7 and 12 x 12models, and 10
lbs. (4.5 kg.) on the 4 x4 model.
9. Caution: Hot Surface. Avoid Contact.The top plate of the unit
can remain hotfor some time after use with no visualindication.

The insulating materials are located in the door, the hearth
collar, in the chamber of theproduct or the top plate assembly.
Tests performed by the manufacturer indicate that thereis no
significant risk of exposure to dust or respirable fibers resulting
from operation of thisequipment under normal conditions. However,
there may be a risk of exposure to respirabledusts or fibers when
repairing or maintaining the insulating materials, or when
otherwisedisturbing the materials in a manner which causes release
of dust or fibers therefrom.Through the use of proper handling
procedures you can work safely with these insulatingmaterials and
minimize any exposure. Accordingly, before you repair or replace
any insulat-ing materials, or perform any other servicing on this
product which could disturb or causeexposure to dust from
insulating materials, you should consult the appropriate
MaterialSafety Data Sheets (MSDSs) for such products with respect
to proper handling and appro-priate protective equipment. For
additional MSDSs, or additional information concerningthe handling
of refractory ceramic products, please contact the Customer

Your Cimarec stirring hot plate is a generalpurpose
heating/stirring device intended forlaboratory procedures requiring
temperaturesfrom 150C to 538C (SP47235, SP47235-60and SP47234 range
from 120C to 370C)and stirring capability from 100 1000 rpm.
Avessel with a flat bottom is recommended onthe stirring hot plate
for ideal heat transfer.Avoid metal containers or vessels with a
rim
around the bottom as these could cause dam-age to the stirring
hot plate.
General UsageDo not use this product for anything otherthan its
intended usage.

Introduction
NoteThis unit contains materialswhich may emit a slight odor
orsmoke during initial operation.This will dissipate within a
fewminutes and will not effect theoperation or performance of
thehot plate.
These Cimarec stirring hotplates are not rated for use
incorrosive environments. Use ina corrosive environment willdamage
their components anddegrade their performance.

Some shifting of motor bearings may haveoccurred during shipping
and handling. Prior tofirst use, the stirrer should be run at
maximumspeed for 10 minutes to realign the motorbearings.
Both the temperature and speed controls arecombination ON/OFF
switches and settingselectors.
To Select a TemperatureTurn the control clockwise to the desired
setting.The lighted heat indicator shows when the unitis turned on.
The control maintains a set tem-perature of the stirring hot plate
by turning thepower on and off over short time intervals.
Thegreater the percentage of time the power is on,the higher the
temperature. At the high position,power is on continuously and
maximum temper-
ature is obtained. From the OFF position, theknob may be turned
to either the right or theleft. For fast heat up, turn the knob to
the highposition. When the desired temperature isreached, reduce
the setting to the point wherethe temperature will be
maintained.
To Select a SpeedTurn the speed control clockwise until the
desired mixing action is achieved. The lightedstir indicator
shows when the unit is stirring.Stirring capability from 100 to
1000 rpm. Unitcomes complete with a stir bar that is coatedwith
Teflon Fluorocarbon Resin.*

Operation
WarningGross weight of items placed ontop of Hot Plates should
notexceed 25 lbs. (11.4 kg.) on the7 x 7 and 12 x 12 models,and 10
lbs. (4.5 kg.) on the4 x 4 model.
Refer servicing to qualified per-sonnel.

Thermolyne dealer from whomyou purchased this unit or can be
obtained promptly from the factory. When service orreplacement
parts are needed we ask that you check first with your dealer. If

please contact ourCustomer Service Department for a Return Goods

Barnstead|Thermolyne Corporation warrants that if a product
manufactured byBarnstead|Thermolyne and sold by it within the
continental United States or Canadaproves to be defective in
material or construction, it will provide you, without charge, for
aperiod of ninety (90) days, the labor, and a period of one (1)
year, the parts, necessary toremedy any such defect. Outside the
continental United States and Canada, the warrantyprovides, for one
(1) year, the parts necessary to remedy any such defect. The
warrantyperiod shall commence either six (6) months following the
date the product is sold byBarnstead|Thermolyne or on the date it
is purchased by the original retail consumer,whichever date occurs

All warranty inspections and repairs must be performed by and

however, because of their susceptibility to overheating and
contam-ination, must be returned to our factory, and if, upon
inspection, it is concluded that failure isnot due to excessive
high temperature or contamination, warranty replacement will be
