What to see in Madrid in two days? That is one of the main questions

that we receive from visitors here in Madrid Irresistible. Madrid has plenty of activities and places to be visited:

monuments , museums, on walk tours, parks, shopping places, etcetera.

People usually spend 2 or 3 days walking through the capital so our proposal is to

start your visit at the known area of : “Paseo del Arte” . Actually its name is Paseo del

Prado and it goes from Atocha to Neptuno , just a 750 meters walk where the three

great museums of the city are located: Prado , Reina Sofia and Thyssen . They are not the only

cultural attractions of the area, where you can also find CaixaForum, or in case you love nature: the Botanical Garden and “El Retiro” are very close.

Quite close to the great museums, you may continue your visit with our cultural route. through the Barrio de las Letras , go along Huertas and Prado streets , see the Spanish Parlament, and stop by Plaza de Santa

Ana and in case you are hungry enjoy any of the tapas at the restaurants around.

Almost without realizing of it… you have reached the Puerta del Sol , the heart of the city. From here you can start any route , a historic walk into the Madrid de los Austrias , by Mayor and Arenal streets , visiting Plaza de la Villa , Plaza

Mayor, the Royal Theatre and ending at the Royal Palace. Be sure to visit the squares and gardens surrounding the Palace

and the Almudena Cathedral .If you’re hungry now , do not doubt it: Mercado de San Miguel is

your place, but also all the streets around offer a wide variety of Spanish gastronomy. If you are a gastronomy lover: go dowh to “La

Latina “ district.

Another route that can be started from the Puerta del Sol is going up at Preciados or Carmen streets towards the Gran Via. This is the modern

Madrid, with trendy shops, and alternative neighborhoods such as Malasaña or Chueca (gay district). Go down the Gran Vía until you reach the Cibeles square, and then the Puerta de Alcalá, a perfect place to go

shopping around at the Barrio de Salamanca. Serrano is the Street for those who want the last fashion designs.

We do not want to make you miss the opportunity to go to the other side of the Gran Vía, and go down towards Plaza de España and then visit Parque del

Oeste, a big park where you will find an unexpected monument: an Egyptian temple just in the center of Madrid, and by the way, with great views to the west.

A great place to see the sunset.

(Foto: “Paseo del Faro”; Joaquín Sorolla, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston).Desde 25 Septiembre.

Never before exhibited works shown for the first time thanks to American collectors and the contribution of the Meadows Foundation and the San Diego Museum of Art. This exhibition has already toured much of the United States showing the popularity that Sorolla had in North America where garnered success during its exhibitions sponsored by the Hispanic Society of America. His scenes of courtyards, gardens and beaches as well as his work as a portraitist influenced the American society and American private collectors, to the point that he even painted a portrait of the President of the United States, by then, William Howard Taft. From September 25th.

eL GReCO: BeTween HeAVen And eARTH

This exhibition aims to explore the influence that El Greco has on a number of contemporary artists, demonstrating its relevance in contemporary painting. The exhibition is part of the acts that commemorate the fourth centenary of the El Greco death organised all around Madrid and Toledo. This one is a study of what El Greco means for contemporary art as his figured has been rediscovered since the late nineteenth century to present day. Artists such as Picasso, Cezanne or Pollock reflected the importance of El Greco in their works, elevating him to the status of a cult artist, as he was a “painter-thinker”: a profile that is similar to many of the contemporary artists.

With the advent of September begins a new season in Madrid in every way : theaters renew their billboards , introducing new musicals and plays. Museums and art galleries announce their new schedule of exhibitions and the sport calendar is renewed with new football or basketball season. These are just some examples of what September brings.

With the arrival of the 2014/15 season many attractions of the capital appear renewed. Several hotels in the city have renewed their rooms during Summer. Fall also brings the arrival of Winter collections at stores and shopping streets and summer terraces and menus in restaurants give way to other tipical dishes of colder days. Do not miss the opportunity to taste a Spanish hot chocolate with churros .

In this report we have summarized it all and write about what Madrid offers you during these days of last Summer and the beginning of Autumn. By the way, one of the best times to visit the city if you want to avoid the Summer heat and prevent the Cold winter. Of course, keep in mind that fall is the rainiest time of the year in Madrid.

“ Leisure offer of Autumn has been completely renewed in Madrid, particularly in theaters “

With the beginning of September ends the hot Summer weather. Historical average temperatures during September and October in Madrid are around 20 ° C (70 °F). We will have to deal with the first rain of the new season. You will not use too much warm clothing , but come prepared for the possible appearance of rain. Any case: weather foreecast is most reliable when checked at the very same day .

Take time to enjoy the city during these days . There is probably nothing more enjoyable than walking around Madrid without the Summer heat or avoiding the Winter cold. El Retiro , the largest park in the city , begins changing the green color leaves for other tones: yellow and brown, as leaves start to fall.

Madrid is full of life at this time of the year. During July , August and September , most locals use their Summer vacation to enjoy a trip , go to their home towns or spend a few days at the beach . But is October when the city is at it full capacity.

If weather decides to be tricky with you, no worries . Madrid ‘s offer will allow you to forget about the rain. Avoid the rain and enjoy one of

the many museums in our city. Everyone knows the Prado , Reina Sofia and Thyssen, but there are many more , and as is detailed

below , there are exhibits ready for the first days of fall. Another possibility is to go to the theater and enjoy a musical or a nice

play (not in English though).

Leisure offer has been completely renewed on the last days of summer. At first glance what stands out is

the arrival of a new musical shows to the “Nuevo Teatro Alcalá” (C/ Jorge Juan, 62): “Priscilla,

Queen of the desert”, where you can enjoy singing popular songs from the movie

(alghough they are sang in Spanish). While the Lope de Vega Theatre (Gran

Vía, 57) host “The Lion King”, four years of success of this Disney

Musical show.

“ Need a break? Sit in a cafe and enjoy a hot chocolate with churros”

Museums at the “Mile of Art” also offer great exhibits. Among all, stands out the one organized by Thyssen: Pop Art Myths and Richard Hamilton at the Reina Sofia. They both come to its end by October. Fundación Mapfre brings Sorolla’s work in America to Spain at the Sala Recoletos (Paseo de Recoletos, 23): a “must visit” if you are in Madrid by October (it opens by the end of September).

In sports: Spanish Primera Division of football has initiated its regular season with four teams from Madrid fighting for the winner title. Real Madrid and Atletico the Madrid will also play the matches of Europe’s Champions League. But if you are a basketball lover, do not hesitate to visit the matches of Real Madrid Basketball or Club Estudiantes: the Palacio de los Deportes host both teams matches. Anyway: World Basketball Cup Final games are host also in Madrid during the first days of September.

Are you a shopper? do not forget to take a look at our Shopping Section. You will find what Madrid has to offer you. If you want to take the time to renew

your wardrobe or find Spanish designers clothing collections or the most prestigious international brands. Each area of Madrid has its own style and differs from the others

by offering buyers designs adapted to what you seek .

Plan your visit to Madrid... during your shopping time or before going to a football game or after visiting a museum... do not forget to enjoy one of the

best attractions of our city: our gastronomy. “Tapas” are the products that most easily draw attention from foreign visitors, but we want to invite

you to enjoy a very typical product of our city: with the arrival of cold, or rainy days, there is nothing more comforting than a hot chocolate

with churros at any of the cafes scattered around Madrid.

Definitely the arrival of autumn brings a nice variety of possibilities to enjoy your visit to Madrid: shopping,

entertainment, culture, parks, concerts, … you will not be able to do it all. Too much stress? We propose,

again: if you need a break, take a sit at a cafe and enjoy a hot chocolate with churros. Enjoy

imperial a Madrid.

Going out for tapas is a deep-rooted custom in madrid. it consists of going from bar to bar eating “raciones” (literally, servings), some of which are genuine gastronomic creations, within the reach of all budgets. madrid’s tapas represent almost all the spanish gastronomy. Thanks to the excellent seafood, iberian ham and cold meat, a variety of pickled vegetables, typical dishes such as prawns in batter, tripe or snails, excellent cheese, “pinchos” and casseroles, and all types of wine from all over the country, madrid is the capital of tapas.it is also the perfect excuse to discover the historic centre of the city. experience the bustling, lively atmosphere of its taverns and restaurants, and stroll through the areas packed with tapas bars. The most outstanding areas for tapas are in the old town, such as sol, la latina, plaza de santa ana square, Cava Baja and Cava alta, and plaza mayor square. make the most of the occasion to discover bars with centuries of history. many of them are decorated with tiles, marble tables, columns and wooden benches: inside you will feel transported back in time. if you prefer more avant-garde, imaginative, sophisticated tapas with the most original presentation, head for the salamanca neighbourhood, where there are many places of this type.

Discover Madrid through its gastronomy. From simple home-style recipes to the most elaborately prepared menus in luxury restaurants, there is a

huge variety on offer in the Spanish capital. We would also invite you to take part in a tradition that forms part of the life of the city - going out for

“tapas”: small plates of food that people go crazy for.

In Madrid, as in the rest of Spain, gastronomy is an art. You will notice if you visit any of the restaurants, bars, pubs and taverns to be found

all over the city. There are endless delicacies to try. Madrid’s cuisine has received influences from other parts of Spain throughout its history, but it

still has its own typical, traditional recipes. Be sure to try cocido (chickpea casserole), its most famous dish. If you have a sweet tooth, then order

torrijas (fried bread with honey or sugar) for dessert: you are bound to go for seconds.

Madrid is a hospitable, open city, and this characteristic is also reflected in the cooking. In the streets of Madrid you will find establishments specialising in regional cuisine from all over Spain. This is the case, for example, on the Paseo de la Gastronomía (Gastronomy Route). This is a large area at the Casa de Campo Exhibition Centre. The Casa de Campo is Madrid’s largest green area, with ten restaurants situated in buildings that are replicas of Spain’s traditional, emblematic regional architecture. Here you can enjoy the best Mediterranean cuisine, as well as typical dishes from Galicia, Asturias and the Basque Country,

surrounded by gardens, with a play area for the little ones. Foto: NoPhoto

Madrid comes alive at night, and especially at the weekend. Discos, bars, cafés and fashionable clubs in Madrid’s different leisure areas and districts all offer the chance to

enjoy a first-rate atmosphere by night.

Its lively nightlife is famous all over the world. If there’s one city where you know you’ll be able to dance all night long to whatever music you like, where you’ll

come across people from hundreds of different nationalities and discover venues in every possible style, that city is bound to be Madrid.

You’ll see how the atmosphere changes depending on the area. If you’re looking for an evening with a little refinement, take a stroll around the

Salamanca district(1). If you prefer something more underground with rock and alternative pop, head for the Malasaña

neighbourhood(2). And to find the latest hip discos and clubs with sessions by the best djs, as well as the chance to spot a

few famous faces, the best place to go is the centre, in the area around the Gran Vía and Sol(3).

Although any time in Madrid is a good time for dancing and meeting people, you’ll find the

best atmosphere on Thursdays to Saturdays, starting around midnight.

siempre tienen buen ambiente.

Chueca area, where all inhibitions have been cast aside to make way for fun and tolerance, and

where you’ll find a whole host of wicked venues, techno discos and designer clubs. In fact this

neighbourhood has always been a beacon of modernity, and was the birthplace of the famous

“movida madrileña” (a countercultural movement of the 70s and 80s). And as well as being the

favourite hangout of the gay and transsexual community, the streets in this area are becoming

more and more popular with anyone looking for first-rate nightlife.

In summer, it’s well worth visiting the outdoor terraces in the surroundings of the Plaza de

Chueca square, where you’re always guaranteed to find a great atmosphere. And of course if you want to see for yourself everything that’s on offer in this most openly tolerant of cities, why not visit Madrid during Gay Pride Week (last week of June)? The event features open air concerts and shows, as well as a

parade of floats and fancy dress, while the whole area is awash

with rainbow flags.

“ Madrid will welcome eight teams that will qualify from the Group and will host the Third-Place Game and the Final”

This started at the 2012 London Olympics, where 2010 world champions USA won the gold medal to clinch the one qualifying place on offer for Spain 2014.A year later, during the summer of 2013, continental championships took place across FIBA’s five zones - Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania - and saw a total of 18 national teams qualify to play in world basketball’s extravaganza. At the FIBA Asia Championship in Manila, Iran captured their third continental crown since 2007 to earn their place in Spain. By finishing runners-up, hosts Philippines also qualified, while Korea sealed their progress by winning the Third-Place Game against Chinese Taipei.Australia beat New Zealand in the FIBA Oceania, after which both teams booked their spots for the Basketball World Championship. At AfroBasket 2013, Angola defeated Egypt in the Final of the tournament, while Senegal knocked off the host country (Cote d’Ivoire) in the battle for third place, to claim the three World Cup places on offer.Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina and the Dominican Republic sealed their spots for Spain 2014 by reaching the Semi-Finals of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship in Venezuela. For both the Mexicans and the Dominicans, this was a momentous occasion as they had last taken part in FIBA’s flagship event way back in 1974 and 1978 respectively. Mexico made sure their visit to Caracas was even more special by capturing their first-ever continental title.

At EuroBasket 2013, Croatia, France, Lithuania, Serbia, tournament hosts Slovenia and Ukraine all had strong showings to clinch their places for Spain 2014. The French won their first-ever

continental crown after beating Lithuania in the Final, while Croatia came in fourth. All three teams claimed their World Cup berths by prevailing in their respective Quarter-Finals, while

Slovenia, Ukraine and Serbia punched their tickets after winning in the Classification Round.

This brought to a close the qualifying phase for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, with 20 of the 24 participants known. The remaining four places were determined

through the attribution of wild cards. FIBA’s Central Board decided to award the four wild cards to Brazil (#10 in FIBA bwin Ranking Men), Finland (#39),

Greece (#5) and Turkey (#7). This completed the 24-team field for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Madrid will welcome the eight teams that will qualify from the Group Phase in Granada and Sevilla (Group A and B), from the Round of

16, up to the Semi-Final. Above all, it will host the Third-Place Game and the Final.

Basketball fans will also be able to enjoy activities organized in the Fan Zone by the organization of the World Cup

Basketball placed at Plaza de Colón. In addition, during the tournament, fans may enjoy events all around

the city where several events will take place and landmark buildings will be specially

illuminated. 53

In Madrid, football fans can live their dream by visiting a legendary football pitch, and for the first time, Real Madrid changing rooms, where you could sit on the bench as though you were about to manage a game. You can do all this in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, where other options include witnessing spectacular matches, visiting the trophy rooms and enjoying a meal overlooking the pitch. Madrid’s other team, the Atlético de Madrid, is also a fixture at international competitions and is well-known for its performance in several thrilling matches. However, football isn’t everything. There are other unmissable events such as the Madrid Tennis Open. The city is also home to two famous athletics events, the Marathon and the San Silvestre race. Madrid is also home of two professional basketball teams: Real Madrid and Estudiantes. Just another example of Madrid’s wholehearted commitment to sport.
