Founded in 1945, it is little known fact that the

setup was called Mahindra & Mohammed and the

company traded steel with suppliers in England

and USA. M&M began its operations by

assembling CKD jeeps in 1949. Later it obtained

license from Kaiser Jeep and later from AmericanMotors (AMC) and started manufacturing jeeps

in India. Branching out into manufacturing

agricultural tractors and light commercial

vehicles, M&M expanded its operations by

launching UVs and SUVs like the Armada and

Bolero respectively. Bolero penned the things to

come which saw the hugely popular andsuccessfull Scorpio make its mark in the Indian

SUV market. The recent pact with Renault has

seen the introduction of the Logan into the

portfolio of Mahindra and hopefully things will

march northwards from hereon. Aiming at

bringing out a utility vehicle to rival the Toyota

Innova, M&M willtry hard to make the Ingenio as

good as it can get. We wish them luck!

Mahindra Bolero is one of the most successful and

popular utility vehicle of the Mahindra and Mahindra

Group. The car is robust in appearance and it has been

elegantly designed, keeping in mind the conditions of

the Indian roads. Mahindra Bolero is also among the

best fuel efficient cars of India as the manufacturer has

equipped it with a 2500 cc diesel engine with 5-speed

Design and InteriorThis SUV has a robust and aerodynamic appearance. It

is available in attractive metallic colors and the exterior

has been primed with dynamic CED process to ensure

exteriors, which contribute to its commanding presence

on road. The sporty exteriors are well complemented by

capacious and comfortable interiors. A host of safetyfeatures ensure high level of protection for the

occupants. With some thoughtful addition into the

storage spaces inside the cabin, Mahindra Xylo proves

to be the best companion for a long journey with a large

family.

EngineThe 4-cylinder mEagle diesel engine of Mahindra Xylohas been developed on the NEF CRDe platform. Mated

to 5-gears manual transmission, the engine delivers a

maximum output of 112bhp @ 3800 rpm and a torque

of 24 kgm @ 1800-3000 rpm. The car accelerates from

zero to 60 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.

Design And ComfortMahindra Xylo is muscular from outside and roomy

and comfortable on the inside. The sleek radiator grille

with chrome slats, bumper with integrated fog lamps

and sloping bonnet enhance the muscular stance of its

front end. In the rear portion, the car features a trendy

wrap-around taillights cluster. The vehicle gets flat-bed

front seats, with three position lumbar support thatmakes them highly comfortable. The air conditioning

Interiors

The roomy interiors of Mahindra Xylo come with ampleboot space as well as head and leg room for its

occupants. The foldable flight trays, positioned at the

rear portion of the front seat, are a thoughtful addition

comes with two mobile charging points, one each for the

front and middle row occupants. It also features a

digital clock. Roof console for spectacle holder is

available in E6 and E8 variants of Mahindra Xylo.

Ride And HandlingMahindra Xylo is specially designed to ensure a

comfortable ride for the occupants during long

journeys. The steering wheel is tilt-adjustable, which

adds to the driving comfort. The double wishbone type

suspension - with anti-roll bar at the front and multi-

link suspension - with coil springs in the rear coordinateto absorb the bumps and potholes on uneven roads.

SafetyMahindra Xylo has been equipped with the latest safety

features that ensure all-round protection to its

occupants. Seatbelts and tilt steering column are among

the standard safety measures of Xylo. The specialcrumple zones of the automobile assist in providing

protection to the occupants, from the impact of

EngineThe manufacturer has packed Mahindra Scorpion

with powerful 2.6-liter turbo-charged diesel engine

that delivers an output of 115bhp @ 3800rpm and

torque of 28.3kgm @1700-2200 rpm. The vehicle canattain a speed of 0 to 60 in 9 seconds whereas the one

fuelled by petrol can do the same in 8 seconds.

like collapsible steering column, intrusion beams, fire-

retardant cushion, tubeless tyres and anti-lock braking

company boss Dr Pawan Goenka told We want to be a

Mahindra are planning to launch a thoroughlyreengineered version of their best selling Scorpio in the

US market later this year. Presently, they will be

assembling and selling through their network of 300

dealers. If volumes are good we will think about making

cars in the US and then we will be looking at Europe with

a higher focus,said Goenka.We are also aware of

Mahindras new world SUV that is Mahindras firstmonocoque design that is under development. It will

sport a 4X4 and be the best Mahindra ever. It will be

launched in 2011 and then taken to USA later. We

never intend to be in passenger cars on our own, its too

crowded and competive a market,he said. We feel

Mahindra is in a far better position than Tata to sell its

products abroad. Its styling is well received and not as

odd looking as the Aria and the Manza that Tata make.Looking at the current situation, we bet our money on
