Lunch at own expense. During the Japanese invasion of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur was the HQ of the 3rd Indian Corps. As the Japanese moved down the peninsula a temporary POW camp was established at Pudu jail, to which Commonwealth serviceman were taken before being sent to Changi Camp on Singapore. Explore historic Malacca, the oldest trading port in Malaysia. Tour the historical city of Malacca visiting major attractions such as St. Paul’s Hill – walk through the ruins of St. Pauls church, the renowned Porta De Santiago, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and Jonkers Street also known as Antique street. You will have the opportunity to sample a local lunch before checking in to your hotel and evening at Leisure. Dinner at own expense. Accommodation: Renaissance Hotel Malacca Meals: BL (MALACCA – FRASER’S HILL) After breakfast, check out from hotel in Malacca to proceed to the sites associated with ‘The Emergency’ in this area. First, the Royal West Kents action on 22/10/51 at Ulu Caledonian (Ulu Yam) Rubber Estate. We move on to the site of the assassination of Sir Henry Gurney. In 1951, he was killed near Fraser's Hill in a random assassination by Communist guerrillas. Finally, we visit the site of the Batang Kali Massacre. This was the alleged killing of 24 unarmed villagers by British troops of 7th Platoon, G Company, 2nd Scots Guards on 12 December 1948. The incident happened during counter-insurgency operations against Malay and Chinese communists. It is sometimes described as DAY FOUR: WEDNESDAY 13 MARCH "Britain's My Lai". The massacre occurred during the campaign in which Sir Gerald Templer first coined the now famous phrase "hearts and minds" as part of his strategy for victory. Lunch at own expense in Bukit Fraser.
