    IntroductionDuring floristic investigations, the authors collected

    many interesting specimens belonging to Cruciferae fromaround the ras iver ( alklak, ars, north-east

    natolia, urkey). nitial attempts to name one specimenusing theFlora of Turkey (Cullen, 19 ; Davis et al.,19 ; ner et al., ) were unsuccessful. ventually,using the generic account in theFlora of Iraq ( ownsend,19 ), the specimens were identified asStrigosella intermedia (C. . ey.) otsch.Strigosella oiss. is now considered a synonym ofMalcolmia W. . iton ( reuter et

    al., 19 ; l- hehbaz et al., ). t was a new recordfor the flora of urkey. he species has a wide range of distribution including raq, ranscaucasia, ran,

    he following description of the species was based on

    the specimens collected from alklak village.nnual herb, -1 cm, much-branched from about the

    base or frequently very condensed, glabrous to sparingly or more densely furnished with a few simple and morenumerous furcate hairs. Leaves elliptic-oblong, 1. - .

    . -1 cm, long-attenuate and subpetiolate below, repand-dentate to runcinate-pinnatifid, glabrous or sparingly hairy, the upper smaller and more shortly attenuate.

    acemes short, axillary and terminal, sessile, the lowest fruit situated almost on the main stem, frequently the

    whole axis suppressed so that the fruits appearstellately disposed, mostly - -flowered pedicels very short and stout, . mm, or less. epals . - mm,glabrous or with scattered simple or furcate strigose

    hairs, narrowly oblong, with broad pale margins, theinner broader less cucullate above, feebly saccate at thebase. etal white, . -7 mm, narrowly lingulate-attenuate, rounded at the apex. Long inner flaments fusedin pairs to c. halfway. iliqua densely hairy with simple

    and furcate hairs, strongly divaricate 1 - 1 mm,rigid; usually curved; seed c. 1. mm, shortly oblong,compressed, minutely rugulose. lowering: pril- ay,fruiting: une. rrigated alluvium along ditches andchannels, slightly saline, sandy banks. 97 -1 m.

    Results and Discussion

    he number of species of Malcolmia . r. in urkey (Cullen, 19 ; ldrml, 1; zgke & nal, 7)reaches 1 with the addition ofM. intermedia . heclosest species toM. intermedia among urkishMalcolmia is M. africana (L.) . r. t differs fromM. africana asindicated below:

    M. intermedia grows in a very limited area (in Turkey), where it is under high grazing pressure. The recommendedIUCN Red Category is Vulnerable (VU (B1a)) (IUCN, 2001).In its locality, the following taxa exist abundantly: Suaeda confusa Iljin, Salsola nitraria Pall., Salix pentandroides

    altissimum L., Ceratocephalus falcatus (L.) Pers., Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) Medik., Nonea caspica (Willd.) G.Don,

    Anchusa arvensis (L.) M.Bieb. subsp. orientalis (L.) Nordh.,and Euphorbia heteradena Jaub & Spach.
