Our Mother of Perpetual Help is being credited with a miraculous healing during the Jubilee Missionary Icon’s recent visit to Seat-tle. “Our parish was blessed with several gifts on one single day – January 24 – when the icon was present in the church and chap-el,” said Fr. Tony Bawyn, pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church. St. Anne’s is only one of the parishes that hosted the icon for a day during its two-week visit to the city as part of a coor-dinated evangelization effort arranged by Fr. Binh Ta, pastor of Sacred Heart Church and superior of the local community.
Chris Hurley, a parishioner of St. Anne’s who was being treated for Stage IV colon cancer
and scheduled for surgery the next day, participated in Morning Prayer and a Holy Communion Service in the presence of the icon, as well as the prayer service led by Fr. Binh Ta for St. Anne School students. Chris confided that he was taken by the beauty of the icon, and mentioned that the unusual gold color of Mary’s eyes re-minded him of his wife, Regan.
After Fr. Binh explained the history and meaning of the icon to the students, Chris asked him for an anointing and he obliged in the presence of the icon. Since he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, Chris had endured several chemotherapy and radi-ation treatments, and a marker had been inserted on the tumor in his colon. When the surgeons were performing surgery the next day, they found that the tumor had completely disappeared; only the marker remained.
According to Chris, the post-operative pathology report declares that he is cancer-free. He and his family, as well as the friends who have supported him since his cancer diagnosis, all believe that he was blessed with a miraculous healing through the intercession of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The icon will be present here at ICC in the coming days!
A Nuestra Madre del Perpetuo Socorro se le ha atribuído una curación milagrosa durante la reciente visita que ha hecho a Seattle el Icono Misionario del Jubileo. “Nuestra parroquia ha sido bendecida con muchos dones en un solo día, el 24 de enero, cuando el icono estaba presente en la capilla de la iglesia”, ha dicho el padre Tony Bawyn, párroco de la Iglesia de Santa Ana. Santa Ana es una de las par-roquias que han acogido el icono sólo por un día durante su visita de dos semanas a la ciu-dad como parte de una acción coordinada de la evangelización organizada por el padre Binh Ta, párroco de la Iglesia del Sagrado Co-razón y superior de la comunidad local.
Chris Hurley, un feligrés de Santa Ana que estaba siendo tratado de cáncer de colon en estadio IV y al que se había programado al día siguiente una operación de cirugía, asistió a la oración de la mañana y a una celebración en presencia del icono, así como a la oración dirigida por el padre Binh Ta para los estudiantes de la escuela Sant’Anna. Chris ha contado que quedó impresionado por la belleza del icono, y dijo que el color dorado inusual de los ojos de María le recordaba a su esposa, Regan.
Después que Padre Binh había explicado la historia y el significado del Icono a los estudiantes, Chris pidió la unción ante la presencia del icono. Desde que fue diagnosticado con cáncer en 2016, Chris había sufrido varios tratamientos de quimioterapia y radiación, y también tenía un marcador colocado sobre el cáncer de colon. Bishop’s Annual Appeal
The 2017 BAA has begun. Our goal for this year is $21,724; $796 lower than last year. For those of you who have donated in the past, you should have al-ready received a letter and pledge card from the Diocese of Raleigh. Thank you to those who have already returned their pledges and payments in the of-fertory basket. How does the BAA benefit our parish? In 2016 our mission church, San Juan Ingold, received a grant of $5000 to replace their ancient and ineffective heating system. Part of that grant was funded through our do-nations to the BAA. The BAA has also been hard at work helping our neighbors in Eastern North Carolina who were so devastatingly affected by hurricane Matthew. Please consider supporting the BAA this year. If you are in need of a pledge card, our in-pew pledge envelopes will be available soon.
