A big thank you to all who took part in the "To TeachWho Christ Is" Campaign. We appreciate your gener-osity. Even though it's still warm out, winter is comingand we have to start thinking about a new boiler. TheArchdiocese credits us every month with 60%of your CURRENT payments. Some people areDRAMATICALLY delinquent in their paymentswhich slows down our goal. We really can't moveforward until we receive most of the funds for theboiler. If you have any questions about your payments, please call the Archdiocese at 312-534-8500.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Robert Marchwiany, Pastor

A Texas Archbishop Slaps Down “Catholics” for Choice!Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller,M.Sp.S. of San Antonio has shownthe kind of leadership so badly neededin this election season. When the oxy-moronic Catholics of Choice publisheda advertisement in the San Antonionewspaper (September 12), ArchbishopGarcia-Siller answered with the fol-lowing broadside. This statement hasthe ring ofa bishop who has had enoughof the nonsense and wants to set therecord straight. Thank you ArchbishopGarcia-Siller! (Italics are added for emphasis.)

ARCHDIOCESE RESPONDS TO CATHOLICS FORCHOICEADVERTISEMENT IN SANANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS

An organization called Catholics for Choice placed a full-page advertisement in the Sept. 12 edition of the SanAntonioExpress-News with inaccurate information which must becorrected, since it misrepresents the truth and what theCatholic Church believes and teaches.

This misrepresentation is demonstrated by their statementthat “Public funding for abortion is a Catholic social justicevalue.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

Before responding to claims made by Catholics for Choicein “Abortion in Good Faith,” it should be noted that thisgroup does not speak for the Catholic Church. The groupundertook a similar media campaign in the state of Coloradojust two years ago, and the bishops there also respondedin reiterating authentic Catholic social teaching and theconsistent ethic of life.

For more than 2,000 years, the Church has steadfastly pro-claimed that respect for all human life at every stage isfoundational to the Catholic faith. Abortion from the earliesttradition of the Church has been considered immoral.

The Catholic Church’s position on abortion is clear. In themagisterial document “Donum Vitae” (The Gift of Life),the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith affirmedthat, “The human being is to be respected and treated as aperson from the moment of conception; and therefore fromthat same moment his rights as a person must be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of everyinnocent human being to life,” (Sec I.1 ) Direct abortion, orthe intentional killing of a human being living in the womb,is always seriously immoral because as persons the right-to-life is the most basic and fundamental right we possess.

It is our hope that one day Catholics for Choice will take thetime to acquaint themselves with basic Catholic teachings, and acknowledge the truth of the Catholic faith, and notchoose to misrepresent her teachings with false and inaccurateinformation and ads that only work to confuse and misleadthe public. Upholding the sacred dignity of all human lifeis the duty of every member of society and this duty mustbe taken seriously in order to ensure that we are a part of aculture that affirms the right to life for all, especially themost vulnerable among us.

LAARQUIDIOCESIS DE SANANTONIO RESPONDE AUN

ANUNCIO DE CATHOLICS FORCHOICE EN SAN ANTONIO

EXPRESS-NEWS
