• two main islands and several small islands

The North Island:• more populous than The SI, the capital Wellington• sub-tropical (warm to hot summers and cool mild winters)• summer from Dec to Feb, winter from June to Aug (most of the rain) • a lot of volcanic activity (hot mud springs and hot water springs)

The South Island:• larger than The NI, much colder (snow and glaciers, earthquakes)• mountainous (The Southern Alps)• Mount Cook (= "Aoraki"; 3,754 m) - the highest peak
