The Caledonia Classic is run under the rules of Equine Canada. As per Equine Canada rules; horses showing require passports and riders must be Silver EC members for the Silver show and Gold EC Members for the Gold show or pay the upgrade fee set out by Equine Canada.

The Caledonia Classic is also sanctioned by Jump Alberta and all Alberta riders must hold a Jump Alberta membership. Membership can be purchased online at https://ja. equestrianmemberships.com

Thunderbird Good Hands and Seat Medal Class Specifications

Thunderbird Good Hands and Seat Medal Class 3’Open to all junior and amateur riders. Course will consist of 8 to 10 jumps with aminimum of 2 combinations, one will be a triple. A minimum of two changes ofdirection. Tack is not restricted. A triple or water jump may not be used. The top 15scoring riders will be eligible to compete at the finals held at the Fort Summer Festival.Finals will call for a ride off. No cross entry between the 3’ and 3’6” medal classes.

Team Relay• These competitions are for teams of two athletes. The team members enter the arena together.• The course shown on the plan must be completed consecutively according to the number of team members. • The Athlete going through the starting line must jump the first obstacle and the Athlete jumping the last obstacle

must also cross the finishing line in order to stop the clock. If an Athlete crosses the finishing line after another Athlete has jumped the penultimate obstacle, the team is eliminated.

• The time of the round is taken from the moment when the first Athlete crosses the starting line until the last member of the team passes the finishing line.

• If, during the round, disobediences with knock down are committed, the time corrections must be added to the time taken to complete the round

• The elimination of a team member incurs the elimination of the whole team. • The second disobedience by any team member or the first fall by an Athlete/horse eliminates the whole team. • The team is eliminated if, in changing over, the Athlete takes off to jump an obstacle before the forefeet of the horse

of his team member have reached the ground.

Jumper Derby • A Derby competition takes place over a distance of at least 1000 m and not more than 1300 m over a course com-

prising at least 50% of the efforts over natural obstacles and must be run in one round only and with one jump-off if so stipulated in the schedule.

• Each Athlete is allowed to ride a maximum of three horses according to the conditions of the schedule.

JUMPER RULES & REGULATIONSJumpers will be scored under Alternate Table A (FEI Article 238). Ties for 1st place will jump off. In ties other than 1st place, money will be added together and divided equally: riders will toss a coin for ribbons. A computer draw is established daily for certain jumper classes. Horses may be required to jump in posted order. Exhibitors riding more than one horse in any class, if not listed on the entry form (i.e. Catch riding), must inform the Show Office an hour before the class goes so that their rides may be spaced. At no time will the gate be held for more than five minutes due to riders or trainer conflict. Jump-off to be ridden over a short course. Some fences may be raised by 3”. Jumper Divisions may include - Time First, Power & Speed and Speed.NOMINTED RINGS: Horses entered in Jumper Ring # 1 pay a nominating fee of $90. Horses entered in Jumper Ring # 2 pay a nominating fee of $50. Nominating fees allow jumpers to move from class and/or divisions without an add/scratch fee. There will only be one nomination fee charged per horse. Horses nominated in Jumper Ring #1 may ride in Jumper Ring # 2. If a horse competes in Jumper Ring # 2 and would like to move up to Jumper Ring # 1 they will only be charged the nominating fee of $90 for Jumper Ring # 1 and refunded the nominating fee for Jumper Ring # 2. LATE JUMPER NOMINATION FEE: Horses not nominated by the closing date of entries for the show must pay a nomination fee of $150.JUMPER NOMINATION FEE REFUND POLICY: Jumper nomination fee refund schedule will be as follows; before the start of the show - 100%, or after the closing date, but before the start of the show - 50%, after the show starts there is no refund.CHANGES: There will be NO office charge per add/scratch sheet if done the day before the competition starts for horses already entered prior to closing date. An open cheque must be presented to the Horse Show Secretary before any add/scratch forms can be processed. All changes must be made no later than 1/2 hour after the last regular class of the day. Late and same day changes will be charged $10.00 per class.FOOTING: All hunter classes will go on sand & jumper classes will go on grass.PRIZE MONEY: Prize Money will be divided as listed in the general information unless otherwise stated. There will be no price money in any clear round classes.

** A Horse / Rider Jr / Am / Non Pro combination is permitted unlimited upward movement, but downward movement is restricted to only one level. These movements are based on the level of the first class in which they competed.**

Equine Canada Statement Of PrinciplesEquine Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in all activities under its jurisdiction.Equine Canada is committed to:• Upholding the welfare of horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities;• Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment;• Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose;• Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort, sanitation and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure;• Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare;• Increasing education in training and horsemanship practices;• Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization’s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competition;• Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of horses.The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive nor inhumane.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS1. The Caledonia Classic competition is a sanctioned Silver & Gold competition member of: Equine Canada, 2685 Queensview Drive, Suite 100 Ottawa, Ont K2B 8K2 and is governed by the rules of Equine Canada. Every class offered

herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current rules of Equine Canada and will be held and judged in accordance with the Equine Canada Rule Book.Passports and EC Memberships are required.

2. The management committee reserves the right to decide any point not covered in the rules and to correct any errors or make any alterations that may be necessary in the prize list.

3. The management committee reserves the right to remove any groom, owner, trainer, manager, or rider from the horse show without compensation.

4. Any acts of discourtesy, or disobediences to the judges or officials by the owner, rider, manager, trainer, or groom shall disqualify them from further competition in the horse show and the owner shall forfeit all fees.

5. Inhumane treatment of a horse including polling, rapping, or other abuse shall not be tolerated. Violation of this rule shall result in immediate disqualification, and forfeiture of all fees and prizes.

6. In the case of disqualification, the horse winning the succeeding prize shall receive the prize of the disqualified horse and the other prizes shall be adjusted accordingly.

7. No person other than the officials, stewards, staff on duty, and the judges of the classes may enter the competition rings without permission of the horse show management.

8. Competitors are allowed in the competition ring only when competing or when the course is open for walking.9. Courses will be posted in the hitching ring one half-hour prior to the start of each class.10. Anyone exhibiting dangerous or unsportsmanlike behavior may, at the discretion of the horse show committee, be expelled from the grounds

and forfeit all fees and prizes.

MEMBERSHIPS1. All riders and owners must have an individual senior or junior sport license in Equine Canada or be bona fide members of their own National

Equestrian Federations. Rider and owner membership numbers must be submitted with entries. Competitors who have not reached their 10th birthday are exempt.

2. All rider must have a Jump Alberta membership.

BIRTH DATEJuniors are riders who have not reached their 18th birthday as of January 1st of the current year. Age of juniors must be stated on the entry form and birth certificates are to be available on request.

PASSPORTSEquine Canada Horse Passports are mandatory for all horses and ponies entered in the Caledonia Classic. Passports must be turned in to the Show Office before the horse will be allowed to compete.

NUMBERS AND DRUG FEES1. All competitors will receive a number for each horse. It is important in practice areas and competition rings that the horse number is clearly

displayed. The use of a wrong number or having no number may result in disqualification from the competition.2. Competitors will be assessed a fee of $7 per horse for drug fees.3. Competitors will be assessed a fee of $10 per horse for the Jump Alberta Levy4. Competitors will be assessed a fee of $20 for the Jump Canada Levy

DRUG INSPECTIONAny horse entered in any class at a competition subject to the requirement to pay drug testing fess may, while on the competition grounds and on the recommendation of the chair of the provincial Equine Medication Control Committee or the chair’s appointee, be selected for equine medication control testing.

HARD HATS AND ATTIRE1. It is mandatory that all persons mounted on a horse anywhere on the competition grounds wear protective headgear secured with a safety

harness permanently affixed to the helmet.2. ALL persons, including all foreign competitors in EC national classes, riding over fences anywhere on the competition grounds MUST wear

protective headgear secured with a safety harness permanently affixed to the helmet. Harnesses must be secured and properly fitted. It is recommended that the protective headgear meets the ASTM (American Society forTesting Materials) standard and display the SEI (Safety Equipment Institute), or equivalent, seal.

3. Junior competitors must wear properly fitted, approved protective headgear, with the safety harness correctly secured at all times while mounted on the competition or event grounds. Approved headgear must be certified by SEI or another testing body that it meets the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) standard or the British Standards Institution (BSI) standard. Juniors not complying with this rule will not be allowed to compete in competitions that require approved headgear.

4. Hunter Ring – braiding and hunt jackets at all times.Jumper Ring – (Friday) Collared shirts (ie polo shirts) are allowed.

ENTRIES1. Entries for the Caledonia Classic must use the Caledonia Classic entry form. 2. Entries must be in the hands of the show secretary by the closing date printed on the entry form.3. Entry forms must be accompanied by a cheque or money order to cover all entry fees, offices fees, stabling fees and any other applicable fees.4. NSF cheques will result in an additional $25 service fee.5. Competitors are responsible for their own errors or those of their agents in preparation of their entry forms. Juniors must have a parent or

guardian sign their entry form.6. Entries received after the closing date will be subject to a $100 late fee.7. Post dated cheques or cheques received after the closing date will be required to pay the late fee.8. All competitors will be required to leave an open cheque at the show office upon check in, to cover any additional expenses incurred during

the horse show. This shall be in addition to the cheque sent to cover initial fees.9. The management reserves the right to limit entries in any division and to refuse or decline any entry without being liable for compensation or

damages.10. Changes may be made Thursday afternoon and friday for no penalty. Changes after friday will be assessed a $10.00 change fee.11. Jumpers must pay a jump nominating fee of $90 for Jumper Ring # 1 or $50 for Jumper Ring # 2. Only one nominating fee will be charged

per horse.

HORS CONCOURS1. Horses shall be allowed to compete “Hors Concours” with permission from the organizing committee but are subject to the same scoring rules

as a regular entry with respect to falls, elimination etc. Such entries are not judged and are not eligible for the jump off.2. A horse or pony that has competed “Hors Concours” is not allowed to compete subsequently in the same ring on the same day.3. “Hors Concours” entries will follow the last regular entry in the class.4. “Hors Concours” entries are not allowed in Hunter Divisions, Equitation and Medal classes.

PRIZES1. Ribbons will be given to sixth place in all classes except Medal Classes or unless otherwise specified.2. Prize money will be divided as follows unless otherwise specified: a. First=28%, Second=24%, Third=19%, Fourth=14%, Fifth=10%, Sixth=5% b. Class 34 (1.40m Jumper Classic) and Class 22 (1.20m Jumper Classic) will divide prize money as foloows First=25%, Second=20%, Third=15%, Fourth=12%, Fifth=10%, Sixth=8%, Seventh=5%, Eighth=5%3. Hunter Champions shall receive a cooler and Reserve Champions receive prizes.

Points for championships shall be awarded on the following basis:PLACING POINTS1st 72nd 53rd 44th 35th 26th 1

4. The Champion and Reserve titles shall be awarded to the two horses that have accumulated the most points performing over the courses in the division in which they are being shown. In the case of a tie the Championship and/or Reserve title shall be awarded to the horse that has accumulated the most points over fences. Ties will be decided by a coin toss.

SCRATCHES1. Exhibitors cancelling their entries after the official closing date, but prior to the start of the show shall, upon presentation of a valid veterinarian

certificate, forfeit their stall, tack room and offices fees, but will be refunded 50% all other fees. 2. Non-veterinarian scratches will not be refunded.3. Substitutions will be permitted, prior to the start of the show, for a fee of $50.00.4. Scratching after the show has begun, horse will be refunded 50% of scratched classes only.

STABLING1. Stabling is available from noon May 14 until May 18, 2015.2. Stalls may be bedded with shavings ONLY. No bedding is provided.3. Stabling will be allotted according to distance travelled.4. Stabling is limited so please be aware that tackrooms will only be available if space permits.5. Stall fees for horses, tack or feed will be $205.00 for the duration of the horse show.6. No horse shall be placed in an unassigned stall without the approval of management.7. Hay shavings orders can be made through the show office.8. Stalls must be cleaned daily and manure deposited in the areas provided. Please do not mix other garbage with manure.9. Haul-ins are welcome at a cost of $30 per day with no stabling. Haul in competitors can alternatively arrange for use of a day stall with the

show office for $75/day.

WARM UPAll hunters are required to pay a $30.00 schooling round pass. Group times may be booked. Please call (780) 986-6389 to reserve a time slot:

DOGSDogs must be on a leash at all times. For safety and sanitary reasons, no dogs will be permitted in the schooling area, Show Office, concession areas, or grass or sand show rings.
