Dear Members & Friends:
Well, spring is in the air. The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and the Easter Bunny will be
making his appearance soon. Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely spring weather.
Our April meeting at Tahoe Ridge was wonderful with Sue Lowden as our speaker. It was very informative and I learned
some things about Sue Lowden I didn’t know.
Our May Luncheon should be quite informative, also. We will have a Wheeler/Reedy forum. They will both be answering
questions that we will be asking them. This should be a very interesting and educational meeting. With that said I would
like to talk about America’s Greatest Strength
The uniqueness of America and its longevity as the world’s greatest and most successful political experiment have been
the result of two fundamental beliefs:
The guiding principle of American freedom is outlined in the Declaration of Independence, that: We hold these
truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with
certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The future is more important than the present; Americans have always cared about what kind of country they would
leave their descendants. For almost two centuries, Americans have believed that the present was to live in; the
future was to preserve for those who would follow.
During World War II, America was all that stood between free men and the tyranny of Imperialistic Japan and Nazi
Germany. Once again a generation of Americans answered the call to preserve our Republic. Called “The Greatest
Generation” by newscaster Tom Brokaw, these young men fearlessly stormed the beaches of Normandy and the South
Pacific giving their lives to preserve our gift of freedom. They gave all-for those who would follow.
Today our country faces many challenges both foreign and domestic. Our young people have answered with their lives to
fight our foreign enemies. These brave young men and women have volunteered to go into harm’s way, as did the genera-
tions before them. They have served and sacrificed with honor. They too have done what was needed to preserve our
Republic.
My question is: Will future generations of Americans to come answer our domestic challenges with the same spirit and
willingness to sacrifice?
America’s greatest strength has always been its willingness to sacrifice. With that being said, this is an election year. WE,
as Republicans have the power to effect real change in our state, as well as, our country. I am encouraging all of us to get
involved and make the sacrifices needed.

NvFRW Spring Board meeting in Las Vegas
and Recommended Reading Dr. Timothy C. Daughtry was the luncheon speaker at the recent NvFRW meeting held in Las Vegas. He is a
former clinical psychologist who now is a conservative writer and speaker. Dr. Daughtry co-authored Waking
the Sleeping Giant: How Mainstream Americans Can Beat Liberals at Their Own Game with Gary Casselman,
Ph.D. Emphasizing that politics must be regarded as a year-round activity, Dr. Daughtry discussed the
techniques which he regards as vital for Republicans to adopt in order to take back our country.
SNRW’s Sally Wiley represented our club at the NvFRW meeting. Sally was very impressed with Dr. Daughtry
presentation, and based on what he had to say she recommends Waking the Sleeping Giant. The book
describes the tactics that liberals are using as well as the techniques Republicans must begin to utilize.
Reminding conservatives that liberals are attempting to control others and push their agenda, Dr. Daughtry
urges conservatives (40% of Americans are self-identified as conservatives) to seize the offense and control
the narrative. This can be done by recognizing the narrative that the liberals want you to follow, reframing the
argument to put liberals on the defensive and refocusing on the conservative narrative.
Dr. Daughtry distinguishes conservative political philosophy--taking personal moral responsibility for what we
do, from the liberal blame and entitlement attitude. In this political season his book is undoubtedly a good and
worthwhile read.
Thank you, Sally for your recommendation as well as for representing SNRW at the state meeting and for all of
your splendid contributions. Other SNRW members are invited to make reading recommendations that will be
passed along by the Constitution Committee.

President’s Comments St. Patrick’s dinner was very successful and thanks goes to chairman Pam Sterling. Joyce Richardson has volunteered to chair the 2015 St. Pat’s dinner. To advertise in the newsletter see Nancy Jarvis. Committee vacancies yet to be filled are Audit, Historian, Nominating Committee.
The guest speaker, Sue Lowden, was introduced by Sharla Hales Sue Lowden spoke about her goals and vision for Nevada if elected as the next Lt. Governor.
Club Business: Approval of the Feb.12, 2014 minutes. Treasurer’s report by Jan Muzzy was reviewed and will be placed on file. Membership is currently 60 paid members and 35 associate members. Membership chairman, Nancy Brisack noted that guests and new members would be wearing a red name tag and encouraged the membership to greet and meet them with encouragement to join.
Sally Wiley will attend the Spring Board Meeting in Las Vegas DCRCC update by Mary Porter Mary passed around signup sheets to work at staff headquarters. 2 hours per month is needed by volunteers. Mary recommended the book Nevada by Robert Laxalt as excellent reading. She also asked for volunteers to go to Minden Elementary to give a presentation on The Constitution.
Lynn and Jan Muzzy will hold a precinct workshop on Sat. April 12 from noon to 2 p.m. to train new precinct captains. Two more sessions will be held in May.
The winner of the Sustainability Drawing received $62.50.

Easter is the springtime holiday marking the rebirth of Jesus and the renewal of the Christian faith.
It is a blessed time for the faithful to celebrate the life, death and resurrection of the Savior... and a magical time for children to enjoy chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks and jellybean-filled Easter eggs.
Easter will be celebrated on April 20th, 2014. Greek/Orthodox Easter will also be celebrated on April 20th,
2014.

April 9 Luncheon Meeting
We were very sorry to learn of the passing of SNRW Member Millie
Stout. Our extreme condolences to her family and friends. She will be
missed.

SNRW Well Represented at Nevada Republican State Convention
On April 11 Republican delegates from Nevada counties met in Las Vegas for the State Convention.
The party platform was adopted along with four resolutions that had been drafted previously at our
county conventions. Also, there was balloting for candidate endorsements and a presidential
preference vote. Delegates were asked to vote for 3 potential Republican presidential candidates.
The winners were Senator Rand Paul, Governor Scott Walker and Senator Ted Cruz.
Eighteen of the precincts in Douglas County sent delegates to the convention. SNRW members and
associate members attending the convention included Sally Wiley and Mike and Mary Porter
(precinct 2), DCRCC Chair, Marco Caldana and his wife, Dorette (precinct 4), Diane and Ted Carroll
(precinct 10), Jerri and Bob Bolinger (precinct 16), Marie and Carl Schnock (precinct 17) and Cindy
and Barry Penzel (precinct 22).
While not everything was smooth or flawless, most of the business of the convention was
accomplished. The lunch speaker, Michael Ramirez was very entertaining. A two-time Pulitzer Prize
winner, he currently is the editorial cartoonist for Investor’s Business Daily. A number of his cartoons
were shown to a delighted audience during his presentation.
Mr. Ramirez is the author of Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion. He explained that though taking
a humorous look at the world around us “an editorial cartoon is not just a funny picture. It is a
powerful instrument of journalism.” He noted that his initial title for this book had been Conservatives
are from Mars, Liberals are from Uranus. The publisher requested editing of the title however.
Enough said.

earnest.

Passover began 4/14 at Sundown. The eight-day festival of Passover is celebrated in the early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan. It commemorates the emancipation of the Israel-ites from slavery in ancient Egypt. And, by following the rituals of Passover, we have the ability to relive and experience the true freedom that our ancestors gained. Passover is divided into two parts:
The first two days and last two days (the latter commemorating the split-ting of the Red Sea) are full-fledged holidays. Holiday candles are lit at night, and kiddush and sumptuous holiday meals are enjoyed on both nights and days. We don’t go to work, drive, write or switch on or off electric devices. We are permitted to cook and to carry outdoors. The middle four days are called chol hamoed, semi-festive “intermediate days,” when most forms of work are permitted.

Attend the Candidate Forum at CVIC on Tuesday,
May 20
The Douglas County Republican Central Committee is holding a Candidate Forum at
CVIC on Tuesday, May 20. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the forum will begin at
6:00 p.m. Jerry Evans , owner of The Evans Broadcasting Company, Inc., will be the mod-
erator.
Our Republican candidates for Lt. Governor, Mark Hutchison and Sue Lowden have con-
firmed for the event as have our candidates for Assembly District 39, Robin Reedy and Jim
Wheeler. Candidates for Douglas County Sheriff, David Brady, Michael Gyll and Ron Pierini
also will be participating, as will candidates for State Controller, Barry Herr and Ron Knecht.
Richard Schwabe is the DCRCC member principally in charge of organizing the event. He
has asked that we solicit questions for the candidates. Should you have a question to offer
for discussion, please send it to Virginia Starrett at [email protected] as soon as possi-
ble.

Mother’s Day—May 11th
Mother's Day is celebrated to honor all mothers and ex-press gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. Most countries including US, Australia, Canada and India celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May. Mothers Day came into being due to the efforts made by Ms Julia Ward Howe and Ms Anna Jarvis. The Resolution for having a dedicated Mother's Day was signed by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914. Since then people across the world have been celebrating Mothers Day with joy and devotion.
