 Our mission is to bring roller derby to Stephenville and surrounding communities and allowing women the opportunity to learn and play roller derby. We foster athleticism, empowerment and sportsmanship among women, youth, and supporters, while benefiting local non‐profit organizations though our charitable donations and service. We seek to promote women’s athletics, provide an exciting game, and a fun family atmosphere for our fans. 

The Cowboy Capital Rollergirls roller derby league was founded in October 2011 by a group of skaters who wanted to bring roller derby to Stephenville and in turn put Stephenville on the international map for roller derby. Is has since attracted approximately 40 women from around Erath county, including experienced former members of other Texas leagues. 

Cowboy Capital Rollergirls practice and holds bouts year round in Stephenville, and after a successful inaugural season, are planning to make roller derby even bigger in 2013. The league is skater‐owned and skater‐operated with skaters working at levels of the business.  

Our demographics cut across generations, gender and race with the average audience range of 25‐55. 41% Male, 59% Female, 91% have some college education. The exciting sport of roller derby is spreading around the world and is played on every inhabited continent. It has captured the hearts of women all across the globe.

ROLLER DERBY 101 

WHAT IS ROLLER DERBY? Roller derby is a full‐contact sport, played on a flat, oval track in which points are scored by lapping members of the opposing team. A team consists of up to 14 players, with up to five on the track at any given time. 

HOW IS ROLLER DERBY PLAYED? Roller derby has three distinct positions identifiable by the skater helmets. The Pivot wears a stripe on her helmet, and she acts as the navigator, controlling pack speed and usually acting as the last line of defense for the pack. The Jammer wears a star on the side of her helmet and is the only skaters allowed to score points during game play. The Blockers do not wear helmet covers and act as offensive and defensive players in the pack creating holes for their team Jammer and blockades for the opposing Jammer.  

To begin the game, one Pivot, three Blockers, and one Jammer from each team enter the track. On the first whistle, the pack, made up of Pivots and Blocker, starts. When the last member of the pack crossed their start line, a whistle blows twice, and the Jammers take off fromthrough that pack first to attain Lead Jammerstatus, as indicated by their Jammer Referee. ThLead Jammer may end the jam at any time by putting her hands on her hips.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT During the 2012 season, the Cowboy Capital Rollergirls donated a sizable portion of proceeds from all home bouts to various charities in the community including: Lion’s Club, Cross Timbers Emergency Response Team, CASA ‐ Court Appointed Special Advocates, Foster’s Home for Children and Cross Timber Pregnancy Care Center.  

The Cowboy Capital Rollergirls also love participating in charity events, having taken part in the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council Ragin’ Cajun, Shoot Out Hunger – Meals On Wheels and Upland Bird Extravaganza – Evening Lion’s Club. The league also takes part in local parades and other holiday events.
