Presided over by German singer and actor Herbert Grönemeyer, the jury has selected five compositions to enter the final round. This year’s grand Film Music Concert takes place under the theme „James Bond“. Advance sale tickets for this musical event are now available. The five nominated compositions of the 6 th International Film Music Competition are set to be world-premiered within the framework of a Film Music Concert at the new and urban Tonhalle Maag by the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under the experienced musical direction of Frank Strobel. The jury will choose the winning composition on the same evening and present the triumphant composer with the Golden Eye for „Best International Film Music 2017“ endowed with a CHF 10’000 cash prize. Entrants were asked to score for symphony orchestra the Turkish five-minute short film TAMAH by Erhan Yürük. Eligible to enter were composers from around the world who had not scored or orchestrated more than three films exceeding 60 minutes in duration. The following five finalists were chosen from the entries received: Joakim Unander (Sweden) David Arcus (Canada) Giuseppe Onofrietti (Italy) Christoph Johannes Hiller (Germany) Andréane Détienne (France) The jury comprised the German singer and actor Herbert Grönemeyer, the German conductor Frank Strobel, the British film composer, producer and musician Anne Dudley, the Zurich-born film composer and musician Fabian Römer and the Turkish filmmaker Erhan Yürük.

189 composers from 38 countries around the world entered the 6th International Film Music Competition. A further musical highlight of the evening takes place after a second performance of the winning composition and comes in the form of a grand Film Music Concert, which this year is dedicated to the magnificent soundtracks of the James Bond films. Under the heading „James Bond – the hunt for 007“, title tracks, villain motives and fanfares from such films as GOLDFINGER, LICENCE TO KILL, CASINO ROYALE and SKYFALL will resonate throughout the concert hall.

The International Film Music Competition is organised by the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich (TOZ) in collaboration with the Forum Filmmusik. The event takes place during the 13th ZFF at the new urban Tonhalle Maag on October 5, 2017.
