    Steam turbine discs, rotors, shafts, shells, blade rings, and diaphragms are subjected tothe same failure mechanisms and causes that apply to steam turbine blading. It is notuncommon to encounter permanent deformation (creep, fatigue crac!s (thermal andvibratory, and stress corrosion crac!ing in discs, rotors, shells, and diaphragms. "nli!eblading, the mechanisms may ta!e longer for the resultant damage to become detectableas these parts tend to be more robust in si#e.
