Developing Better Writing Habits

• The only one way to become a better writer is througha lot of practices

• Establish a writing schedule and write regularly, i.e.fifteen minutes a day in the morning

• Commit yourself to other(s)• You will get plenty of writing practice and your work

Publishable Articles

• Approaches new evidence in an old way:– Present new evidence to support an existing approach– New evidence can result from new experiment, field

observation, etc.• Approaches old evidence in a new way

– Requires an excellent understanding of existing theories andmethodologies

– Develops a new way of explaining old data• Pairs old evidence with old approaches in a new way

– Links evidence and approaches that have not been linkedbefore

• Be meticulous about documentation:– Missing information in the bibliography– Misspelled author names– Mismatched publication dates– Grammatical errors and awkwardly constructed sentences– Awkward word selections

• Cite recent and relevant literature• Cite multiple sources• Avoid extensive quotations• Avoid extensive description of published subject(s) in

the literature review section.
