Size comparison

In comparison to a filter with a conventional design and similar service life the PicoFlex® is particularly well-suited to installation conditions where space is in short supply.

How the cyclone pre-separation works

Cyclone working principle:

Vanes cause the inflowing air to rotate (eddy)

Centrifugal forces carry dust outwards to the wall of the cyclonewhere it accumulates.

An outlet divides the flow and thepre-cleaned air is then guided to the fine filter.

Approx. 10% of the inflowing airvolume is ejected back into thesurroundings by means of scavenging.

η = 95%: 50g on the element

PicoFlex® Multi-cyclone block

A higher pre-separation efficiency results in less dust reaching the filter element and therefore the air cleaner design can be made more compact. As a result the highest possible efficiency is a prime objective. The best efficiency is achieved with parallel switching of many small cells in a so-called multi-cell or multi-cyclone block.

This design requires a constant dust discharge by means of ...

an exhaust pipe ejector a radiator fan ora separate blower

MANN+HUMMELPicoFlex® Air Cleaner

The key component of the PicoFlex® is the new CompacPlus® filter element developed by MANN+HUMMEL.

Sealing technology

Tests have shown that the axial seal is the best and most reliable solution for sealing a compact element.

This is especially true if the element is removed from the housing at the side.

The sealing action is made with the aid of compression guides in the cover during closing.

Specially formed ribs on the seal seats enable particularly good sealing characteristics.

ServicingStep 1Remove the cover.

Step 2Now remove the element frame together with the main element.

Step 3Remove the element from the frame and dispose according to the environmental regulations. The frame is re-used.

Step 4Now there is access to the safety element, which must also be changed regularly.

In order to ensure a reliable and smooth function of the PicoFlex®, the pre-separator of the air cleaner must be continuously scavenged.

This removes the pre-cleaned dust from the pre-separator and avoids deposits which otherwise would lead to a considerable reduction in efficiency and service life.
