  • Letter addressed by our students

  • Dear Ms. President, Dear Mr. President, We are students of the school ______________________________________ and work as part of the Comenius project CriticArt on the topic of youth unemployment in Europe. As this problem also concerns us, we face this issue with much motivation and interest. Together with our six partner schools from all over Europe we want to take a stand through artistic actions and to call attention to the topic. On the postcard attached you find the depiction of our artistic contribution. It is meant to express our point of view on the topic. We ask you for your personal sentence of hope. Please write it on this postcard and send it back to us. This sentence of hope can be a statement, a quote or also a slogan that voices your opinion about the situation on the youth employment market. Each of our partner schools simultaneously sends about 10 items of the cards they produced to personalities from all over Europe. All the cards returned will form an art installation and will be shown in a touring exhibition in one country after another. Please note that also cards that are not returned will be part of the installation art as blanks. To sum up, we want to ask you to support our activity and to give us a sentence of hope. Please take the postcard attached, write your statement on the empty space and send the card back to us! THANK YOU!

PS:On the back of this you find a detailed description of the project, written by our teachers.

  • Sentence of Hope criticART (Young Artists in Emergency, Reg: 2013-1-AT1_COM06-09767 1) is a multilateral school partnership from 2013 to 2015 of the European Union lifelong learning program . Over the entire term 865 students and 114 teachers are involved in the project. Because of the economic situation in Europe there seems to be no hope for many young people to find employment. Because of this abandonment media even speak of a new generation perdue, a generation lost. In times of rapid changes young people in particular have to be capable of finding individual and creative solutions. Seen from this angle, the following questions arise: What options does this generation have to to call attention to themselves? How can they obtain answers to their questions? What form of expression do young people choose to bring to mind their right of social participation? Seven schools of different school types from Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Romania and Austria form a creative consortium. This consortium consists of students of different countries and regions, with different languages and cultures, with unequal educational background, with or without disabilities. This diversity alone shows the individuality and uniqueness of each and every player. The young people have all one common goal: They want to have a chance on the employment market and to be a valuable part of society. In every country an artistic outlet with regard to the topic of youth unemployment is created in the form of an artwork. This is meant to demonstrate a rebellious stance and to give expression of the young peoples opinions. In part those art works are created during the planned mutual visits. This establishes a sound basis for the fundamental values of cultural cooperation, considerateness and appreciation of the partners, and counteracts a climate of exclusion and unquestioning competition. The art works are depicted on postcards which are sent to political and social institutions throughout Europe and personalities with the request for reply in the form of a sentence of hope. The persons inquired get the opportunity to give an answer to the young people. At this activity the young people actively make contact with personalities and people in charge. Thereby they can experience whether community outreach in the form of a supporting sentence works in a way as an act of solidarity. The cards returned are presented in every country in an arts installation. In doing so they are supplemented by possible non-returns in copy, so that blanks as well find a place in the exhibition. Persons and institutions are involved so that the young people find encouragement to take part in national and European processes and to lead them to become actively participating people with a European range of vision.
