Why change ?For many years pest control service has had no fundamental progression. It is still reliant on

two key areas –

“End users are under more pressure than ever to reduce use of toxins; minimise risk and meet external audit standards whilst coping with day job activities. Real-time intelligent pest management has been designed to meet this requirement.”

High use of poisonsInfrequent visual

inspection of monitors and traps

Peter Trotman – Managing Director

Three behaviours of mice

My Name is Brian Conventional. I like to run against a solid wall. I am not too keen on open spaces and due to my DNA something tells me not to go into small plastic boxes

Brian

My Name is Mike Inquisitive. As my name suggests I like to explore and I will eat at every opportunity.

Mike

My Name is Molly Unusual. I don’t really have a set system to travel, I might change the way I go to my food source every day. My food often moves so have to find new routes most days

Using the ‘Funnelling’ technique

By using special buffer plates they

can be positioned under servery

units or racking to funnel mice into

traps, this is exceptionally more

effective.

One funnel trap is often more

effective than 10 traps in

conventional ‘dome boxes.’

eMitter functionality

Controllers receives signal and pushes it to App, Email, Online Documentation

• power loss —> email alert + internal battery (8 hrs)

• SIM Card included —> worldwide roaming

• GSM network —> different antennas to get a signal EVERYWHERE

Every transmitter sends a signal: indoor - up to 150m, no battery & outdoor - up to 1,5 km, battery

Repeaters receives signal and increases distance up to 1.5 km

Page 11: Mitie Pest Control Emitter

So what does eMitter give me?

• Instant notification that a mouse is caught

• No rotting bodies

• No blow fly issues with decaying flesh

• Reduced activity – bait can take two weeks to clear activity and traps many days – often emitter controls mice is a few days.

• Instant notification means identify proofing and hygiene issues quickly – why wait for more mice to enter???

Page 12: Mitie Pest Control Emitter

Overview• Remote detection of rodent setting off trap

• Uses radio technology from transmitter and repeaters to controller then digital data to wider network.

• Radio technology transmits through walls and barriers much better than digital data

• Instant messaging 24/7/365

• Maintance Free

• Internal transmitters work on kinetic energy (no batteries) - resilient system

• Established technology

• Labour saving – approx. 15 – 30% per site

• Risk reduction – instant messaging of activity highly effective trap design – reduces time for control program

• Controllers and repeaters use minimal power and can safely be fitted into any socket or spur junction. Usually zero need for any electrical work by customer

EPP tunnelMice love dry and warm environments. The EPP tunnel has been made from compressed insulation to create a very inviting and temperature controlled environment – perfect for attracting mice.

Speed trap – high performanceA trap designed to make the best use of the natural running of mice. If a trap allows mice to keep running at speed it is up to 8 times more likely to catch mice in comparison to boxes designed to stop mice and force them to make a conscious effort to enter. If you have problems with lots of mice that are difficult to catch, then the speed trap will be the most suitable.

Open end allows mice to run into trap without slowing down

The new RUNBOX will be made with magnets which can be glued to the wall. This will help keeping the trap in place as well as helping to ensure cleaning is effortless. The new plastic RUNBOX will replace the existing ‘Speed Trap’, both have the same specification except packaging/storing these traps will be flat packed and a lot more convenient for technicians to transport around.

Page 21: Mitie Pest Control Emitter

Why the RUNBOX?

1. no luring into a small bait station opening

2. no evaluation whether bait is "interesting or not“

3. natural movement of rodents: running close to walls

4. with RUNBOX there is no "decision-making“ because the huge opening doesn’t seem like a gap

5. bait helps, but is not essential

Page 22: Mitie Pest Control Emitter

eMitter Outdoor

The eMitter Outdoor is made to fit most bait stations that work with rat snap traps. The signal rages between 500m – 1.5 kilometres. All Kness traps will come with a little hole for eMitter use, which click on and off of the adapter. All the technics is in the adapter. Batteries will endure the toughest weather conditions, they need to be 2-3 hours, then can last up to 1 year. The battery sits on top of the wire therefore rats are unable to gnaw through the wire.

eMitter beep has been specially designed for snap traps. The beep picks up the vibration of the trap when it has been set off. It has been specially designed to only pick up vibrations from snap traps and therefore should not go off by any other movement/vibrations. If the beep is set off and not resent it will beep consistently for 3 years, if it is reset it will last up to 10 years. There are 3 ways in which we can use it:

1. Standalone

2. If the cost of eMitter is too high

3. In low risk areas

NARANon Allergen Rodent Attractants which come in 3 forms; NARA Block, NARA Lure, NARA Liquid.

Why?

NARA Block and Lure

no mould formation; no non-target infestation; no snails consuming the bait; from ‘-30°C to +270°C’, pouring rain; no allergens - IFS, BRC etc; long lasting attractiveness; no disadvantages like regular baits

NARA Liquid

Attractant for rats and mice; to put into a snap-trap, live catch trap or on a glue board; very attractive, especially in dry areas and outdoors against rats; lasts 5-21 days; 1,5 yrs storage in container; different scents (vanilla, almond, aniseed…)

Case Study

Background

A site in North London has been one of the most demanding sites for internal mouse activity known to the pest control industry.

The ‘eMitter’ system of advanced traps and remote notification was installed on 11 August, as a trial over 10 weeks. The new data was then compared to the ten weeks prior to the installation.

By allowing the technician to focus his allocated time on ‘quality’ activities great improvements were quickly made and there was no more wasted time writing dates on monitor points.

Page 29: Mitie Pest Control Emitter

Comparing ten week trial with the previous 10 weeks

Original Service Emitter Service Notes

160 trap monitors 41 traps Using a ‘funnelling’ technique emitter traps were very effective

Relied on technicians finding mice in traps some could remain in traps for a weeks in void areas

5 alerts of trapped mice technician attending within 18 hrs. As he knew the exact location and time of activity he could focus on proofing and cleaning in these areas.

7 alerts in Total , 2 were false alerts

Large part of service time spent on ‘dating’ traps –

No need to date traps. Majority of time spent inspecting

Technician more focused on prevention, inspection and reporting

19 number of recommendations 60 % increase in recommendations Technician was really engaged in the process and felt his time delivered much improved value

72 number of photos taken supporting recommendations

50 % increase in number of photos Technician found work enjoyable as apposed to a laborious task

5 number of weeks with Activity 80 % reduction in activity Site noticed reduction in mouse activity.

Page 30: Mitie Pest Control Emitter

Two funnel traps with Emitter were more successful that 24 open break back traps.

Feedback

‘Recommendations and actions are able to be dealt with quicker, therefore leaving more time to go through outstanding issues. About a month back whatever Mitie have done is working, there are no issues with mice, which has been great’ – Site manager

‘Installing the Emitter system in Finchley Road has had a great positive impact, I am now able to concentrate on creating recommendations. It is easier to pick up activity due to Emitter reporting where traps have been set off, therefore areas where activity has been found can have a more concentrated investigation’ - Technician

‘The traps work very well under gondola. It channels the rodent through the trap without anywhere else to go. This acts as a run-through which is almost guaranteed to catch’ – Technical Officer
