2-3 mobilisering nr 2/2015

It is time to summarise 2015 already. My picture is that we have all been very busy this year, and still are though Christmas is approaching fast.

For us working at Maskin Mekano 2015 has been an important year. We have finally launched the Vibro Block concept officially. In excess of mak-ing the screens work very gently but maintaining their high capacity, the innovation has also given us the ability to design the plants in new ways. For example the S 1203 is built on very high jacking legs. You are very welcome to come and see the concept live at our premises or at some customer site.

In 2015 we have also extended our capacity in delivery of spare parts and screening meshes as we have over added a further 100 pallet boxes of supplies for the screening plants which can be delivered immediately.

We have also been working hard this year with catalogues of spare parts for all our models, which have been well received on the Swedish market.

I now wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Some miles north of Trondheim in the north of Norway you find Verdal, a small

community with a dynamic commercial life, collaborationism and a great deal of smaller businesses. The local company Froseth AS has found a winning concept which has made their recent years prosperous.

Producing more than 500.000 tonnes this year

The day when Maskin Mekano is visiting is a day of celebration, and cake is served to everyone. The reason is that the output of the Froseth quarries has exceeded 500.000 tonnes so far in 2015. Additional 150.000 tonnes has been produced as a subcontractor. The annual turnover is reaching 90 million NOK and the modern machine and truck fleet is as busy as ever even though the winter is already approaching in this region. But only 15 years ago the outlook was considerably bleaker. The company history stretches far back but Froseth AS found itself at a critical point after some poor years and employed only two persons. This became a turning point as Arild Froseth (CEO) and Svein Eggen (chairman of the board) decided to turn everything around. These seems to be a great team. Arild, who more or less grew up in the crushing and screening business, and Sven, with vast experience from different positions in industrial

life, complete one another in a successful way. Today the company employs 20 persons, and Arild attributes a great deal of the success to its qualified and competent staffers on all key positions.

The core of the business

The company motto –everything sand, gravel, rock & asphalt- describes the business areas very well. In order to enable the customers to buy everything they need from one supplier Froseth purchases material they lack in their own production, such as Danish sand, Swedish slate or rock with a special colour or quality.

In order to create maximum availability for the customers a new office has been built nearby the E6, also a base for the truck fleet. The logistic area is going through an exiting development in collaboration with a number of subcontractors under the name Inntrans AS. A versatile fleet adapted for transports of material, concrete- and asphalt is gradually composed. ”In this set-up versatility is gained for everybody, as well as a raising degree of capacity utilization”, explains Arild. Surely a significant step in a business where transport costs make up a great part of the total price.

Material supply is the main focus for Froseth AS and moulding sand is stored in large quantities. With the new Ls 1203 the production capacity is raised but the production cost are cut.

Long-term capacity

To secure the material supply is one of the cornerstones in Froseths business concept. The company owns 7-8 quarries (sand, gravel, rock and limestone) and has material enough for the coming 40 years. Arild explains, ”It is essential for us to ensure our customers, especially within concrete production, that we have a long-term capacity to deliver material”. Arild also praises the local politicians who have an understanding of the quarry industry and are a competent part in the developing of the business. Maybe so because of the vast tradition of quarrying in the area.

Collaboration with customers

Another important choice of path of Froseth is to not compete with its customers. That is the reason for the declination of contracting work and that yellow machines are only used within the quarries. However one works together with customers in different projects and services are exchanged with other quarry businesses. ”We hire for drilling and blasting but deliver straight to the customers. Our core knowledges are production and logistics”, Arild tells us.

Versatile production

As a pre crusher a Sandvik UJ440i is used. The stones in the gravel quarries are usually small enough to run in the cone crusher directly, a Sandvik/Jonsson UH440e. There is also a pre-screen on the cone-crusher when there is demand for a natural pebble.

Froseth runs a professional production and manages a lab that becomes even more important now, due to the latest business addition, the asphalt plant. Until October some 29.000 tonnes asphalt has been delivered, which, together with the rising

demand for other fines materials, led to a need to rise the capacity of final screening.

Maskin Mekano was honoured to deliver one Ls 1203, mainly for the production of moulding sand, and one Sv 1202 which often is used together with the cone-crusher, but the two screening plants are also run in pair sometimes. The main reasons for choosing these Maskin Mekano plants, according to Arild, where the screening abilities and the electric drive. ”The Ls 1203 is driven by a diesel generator that is placed at a safe distance from the dust and for the Sv 1202 the electricity from the crusher is sufficient, so the costs for running the Sv 1202 are almost negligible. ”.

Anne Martine Eggen is responsible for the quality of the products delivered by Froseth AS. The analysis that are made in the company owned lab are quickly done and also very reliable, the lab is situated close by the asphalt works.

NSM tells us all about the benefits of the new S 1203The crushing and screening company NSM led by Ove Gustafsson is based in Dalarna in the middle of Sweden. Various models of screening plants by Maskin Mekano have been used by the company for a long period.

Up in the air

During the latter years a Ls 1203 has been run together with the crusher mostly, meaning that the hopper has been sparsely used. When the S 1203 was launched in the spring of 2015 Ove was

convinced that this would be the perfect plant for them.”The high jacking legs are a great advantage”, Ove tells us. ”Since the plant is raised high up in the air, stockpiling great quantities is easy. And keeping the area around neat and tidy is also easily done”.

Another key advantage is that the docking with their washing screen is more easily performed, an operation done quite often for the production of railway macadam. This operation can now be done without any usage of hauling vehicles.

High jacking legs and sturdy foldable stairs are visible benefits of the S 1203 but the most important innovation is the vibration free action of the screen box.

A special 1/3 mm material is produced in the new screening station. It is used for gritting in airports.

No need for counterbalancing

The Ls 1203 that NSM previously used was purchased before the Vibro block concept was introduced and Ove has noticed some major differences. ”We have always been very pleased by the screening performance and the low production costs of the Maskin Mekano plants, and I feel that with the Vibro block the machines are even more complete, there is no longer any need to counterbalance the screen”.

He also thinks that now that the vibrations no longer transmit to the chassis everyday production life is simpler in many ways. ”For example the electric cabinet no longer needs to be separated from the chassis. And the new catwalks and stairs with rails are both safer and more user friendly”.

Production of grit for airports

During the fall a 1/3 has been produced in the S 1203, the material is used for gritting in airports. The lower deck has been equipped with a stainless 1,1x10 mm screening mesh which has stayed clean regardless of the very damp weather. The strong 12 mm stroke of the screen and a ball deck has proved to be a winning combination.

Ove Gustafsson is the founder and owner of NSM and is very pleased with the new S 1203 screening station, mentioning the high jacking legs, the Vibro block concept and the new stairs as major advantages in his daily work.

We are meeting Gustaf Andersson who is the manager of Eco-center, a recycling business and part of giant haulage firm GDL. Ecocenter used to be a part of municipal Tekniska Verken until 2008.

Gustaf started working for GDL in 2014. He has both education and experience from the gardening business and extensive know-how in soil and the composition of soil. He seems to be cut out to manage the operations of Ecocenter.

Ecocenter widens their offer

Gustaf already has a clear vision of how he wants to develop the business of Ecocenter. Ecocenter used to produce two different kinds of topsoil only, for planting and for landscaping. Gustaf set out to widen the offer, so today there is a selection of 6-7 differ-ent soils with different qualities on offer.

Recycling and refining landfill

As the area at the premises of Ecocenter is huge, the company has the capacity to receive large quantities of landfill and waste, an yearly amount of 20.000 tonnes. Mostly made up of landfill masses, concrete, asphalt and stubs, these masses are crushed and refined at the site. There are also all kinds of decorating pebbles on offer, which are produced by a quarry in Denmark, also owned by GDL.

Expanding geographically as well

Gustaf is confident that Ecocenter has the potential to continue growing and efforts are made in that direction. One strategical step is to establish sites in more towns in the area. In 2015 Eco-center in Norrköping was founded and additional 12.000 tonnes were produced, meaning that the yearly total of 2015 of topsoil produced by the company exceeds 35.000 tonnes.”During 2016 we will carry on expanding and we will be estab-lished in at least one more town” says Gustaf.

Ecocenter is entering an expansive phase and was in need of one more screening plant. A Maskin Mekano Lv 302 T3 on hook lift chassis was chosen to facilitate the transfer between different sites.

The Lv 302 T3 producing topsoil on the grounds of a new equestrian centre in Linköping. A work that was carried out on the building site.

Gustaf Andersson who manages the business of Ecocenter used to work in gardening and therefor is well-experienced in the use of different top soils. He has a clear vision of how he wants the business to continue growing.

In order to raise the capacity an additional screening plant was needed. A Maskin Mekano Lv 302 T3 was chosen.

Screening on site

”We needed a plant with high capacity in a compact format which easily can be transferred between our different facilities. We also have advertised our ability to carry out screening on site. This has resulted in lots of jobs. We have produced the topsoil for a new equestrian centre in Linköping and in Nyköping we have produced sand and pebblestone on site”, Gustaf tells us.

“The choice of a Maskin Mekano plant was much based on their great level of service, both the extensive understanding and know-how and the speedy delivery of spare parts. A standstill is always expensive, but with Maskin Mekano such costs are reduced to a minimum.”

The Lv 302 T3 plant is built on a hook-lift chassis which makes it extremely mobile. Another key advantage is that the operation costs are very low. The fuel consumption is just 3,5 litres of diesel per hour.

The company already uses a Maskin Mekano Ls 802, based in Linköping and Maskin Mekano Lsl 400, mostly based in Norrköping.
