Vietnam Project and MSUGIn 1955 MSUG started a technical assistance program in Vietnam headed by Wesley Fishel, a political science professor and Ngo Dinh Diem, President of South Vietnam (1955-1963). Diem was assassinated in 1963. He visited MSU in 1954 at the department’s and Fishel’s invitation.

The technical assistance program covers the areas of:public administration and education, police administration, and help in writing a constitution

In the fall of 1956, 32 people from MSU worked in Saigon as consultants, and 20 Vietnamese were at MSU in East Lansing for nine months intensive study.

Wesley Fishel’s archives is a rich primary collection of part of the history of MSU and South Vietnam in that period.
