PREVENTIVE MEASURESThe state gov ernment is considering using the 'hair

boom' technique to mop up the oil spill off the Mumbai coast. Human hair is porous, and oil seeps into its outerlayer. It is also biodegradable; therefore, it is one of the

safest cleaning solutions to an oil spill.

To giv e international lev el course to coast guardsfocusing on oil spill assessment and shoreline clean-up

exercise to train off icials in tackling such disasters.

Installation of Radiation Monitor Portals.

Secondary containment - methods to prev ent releases

of oil or hydrocarbons into environment.y Double-hulling - build double hulls into v essels, which

reduces the risk and sev erity of a spill in case of a collision or grounding. Existing single-hull v essels can

also be rebuilt to hav e a double hull.y A ll major cargo v essels and oil tanker should be

equipped with proper navigation system.so as to av oidthe collision
