School of DesignIn addition to the pursuit of visual beauty, 21st Century
design is being called upon in realizing “integrated beauty,”
a concept that sees value in the information in objects,
events, and processes and helps bring about a sustainable,
recycling-based society.
The School of Design aims to develop students who possess
design skills that work effectively in society and foster
human happiness, based on the concept of “design the
connects the individual with society.” To ensure this
outcome, the school provides exhaustive training to
improve students’ comprehension and practice and the
communication skills needed in the process of creating
designs. Students further cultivate their ability to perceive
the appeal of designs that people find attractive̶skills that
cannot be determined by form and function alone̶and
refine their ability to finely sense trends in society and
individuals.

perspectives and relate sensitively to what children think
and feel. In addition to the special environment provided by
this comprehensive arts university, NUA’s affiliated Crea
Kindergarten and other educational sites afford students
abundant time and opportunity to gain practical training
and refine their sensibilities.
As a four-year university, NUA also supports students in
attaining three types of licenses: child care worker,
kindergarten teacher, and elementary school teacher. This
program trains childcare and educational professionals who
are capable of fully understanding and dealing with
children’s developmental stages.

Graduate School of ArtsDelving deeply into art.
Developing individuals who can continuously take on
challenges.
Comprising three research areas focusing on creation and one
area focusing on art theory, this program is designed to foster
individuals with advanced, specialized abilities and an
art-based view of history. Based on the independently
determined themes, the goal is to find just how fully the
students can express themselves. We hold that thorough
research into one’s theme results in the pursuit of new
challenges.
Graduate School of DesignFlexibly adapting with one’s expanding scope.
Contributing to society with specialized knowledge and skills.
The post-graduate design program, which is based on
Master’s-level education in design, aims to provide students
with the knowledge and skills they will come to utilize in
higher-level specialized functions. While the focus clearly
remains on Japan and the local region, this program aims to
foster individuals who are capable of operating internationally,
creating their own opportunities to exhibit their advanced
specializations and developing the practical skills needed in
contributing to a broad spectrum of society.
Graduate School of MusicExploring music as an art.
Refining expertise and creating music culture.
This program aims to cultivate musicians who can contribute
to creative development of music through highly specialized
research into music as an art. Students in the vocal and
instrumental specializations develop even fuller powers of
expression and advanced performance skills, while those
pursuing studies in the field of musicology acquire integrated,
comprehensive practical abilities and thinking skills as they
research more deeply into each area of study. This program
develops broad-minded musicians who will come to create the
future of musical culture.
Graduate School of Human DevelopmentContributing to our children’s future and happiness.
Children are the source of the tremendous strength needed to
support Japan’s society in the future. The aim of this course is
to develop comprehensive, interdisciplinary educational
research into the essential significance of preschool and
primary school education and support for educational content
and development in Japan̶which continues to experience the
phenomenon of an aging society with a low birthrate̶while
training specialists with both high-level practical capabilities
and leadership and skills in human relations.
