Home to some 6 000 animal species and more than 32 000 plants, China is a treasure chest of nature. Our reserve in the Moganshan Mountains is part of a larger legacy to humankind. This is where three species of deer, including the rare musk deer, have been reintroduced to roam the forests as they once did. Bird-feeders attract and keep feathered friends close and protected, and we are especially proud that many breeding pairs found safety in the forest.

Your stay at naked Stables Reserve will make you part of an existence larger than yourself. You will contribute to the preservation of nature, sharing in our legacy. The intent is to focus on protecting our plants and animals, while the added dedication of the natural resource reserve manager will ensure the sustainability and conservation of the whole environment.

According to legend, Moganshan got its name when China’s most talented swordsman Gan Jiang and his wife Mo Ye arrived in the mountains in 770BC. Centuries later, in the late 1800s, foreign missionaries, holidaymakers and China’s upper class built cottages for their summer and weekend retreats. The mountains and forests played host to picnics, swimming competitions and allowed visitors to watch the sunset, observe the wildlife and enjoy peace.

In developing naked Stables, we paid close attention to its design, the construction of its buildings and how sustainability could be achieved through everyday life.

Our buildings are eco-friendly and internationally certified. Food crops are organic, water recycled, waste re-used, and natural resources protected. Most important to us is to create awareness that goes hand in hand with taking and sharing responsibility. Everyone and every action play a role and contribute to this commitment. The architectural design intent is summarized in one word: harmony. Buildings are designed to fit in with nature, to blend into and become one with the forest. The dark facade of the houses remind of the solid dark bark of tree trunks, while the sun that spills in through the expansive windows is reminiscent of the tops of the trees touching the sky. Every boundary of traditional architecture and building practices has been pushed to deliver on our promise of sustainability and conservation.

Only natural and recyclable materials – bamboo, wood and stone - are used to form and sculpt these living spaces into a world-class, one-of-a-kind sanctuary of luxury.

Lush green paddock fields welcome guests to the sight of grazing horses and people on horseback. Horse-riding might be ancient to China, but it is fairly uncommon in modern life. Here adults and children have the opportunity to connect and interact with these noble creatures and share in the equestrian art.

With fully-equipped and well-kept stables, guests can share in grooming and riding activities, and residents can stable their animals in safety. The stables are professionally managed and special care is given to the wellbeing of the herd. Horses are individually trained even when owners are away. Equestrian activity is part of the naked Stables experience, one of the first sights you see, and one of the last memories you’ll treasure.

Visits to the wellness centre complete the circle of experience to achieve wellbeing. Qualified therapists assess and advise on nutrition, exercise and treatments. Consultation sessions provide insight after which personal programmes are tailored to individual needs. All aspects of life within and most activities on the reserve are considered, and inspiration is drawn from nature. All wellness graduates leave with a sense of accomplishment, knowing they have taken care of their souls and replenished their bodies.

Only the most natural products are used. Programmes range from yoga and meditation, body treatments, massages, relaxation exercises, to related education and guidance sessions and nature hiking. The overall approach is holistic, and great care is taken to create a safe and nurturing environment.

The reserve offers guests a resort experience with a twist. Accommodation is offered in typical African style huts called rondavels, and in tree top villas.

Three different rondavel layouts cater for two people. These units will broaden your experience as you get closer to nature. Here you will breathe fresh air, smell the forest, sleep in a home made of mud and shower under the stars. The rammed earth building technology makes the earthen walls not only unique, but adds the rugged flair of African art. Mini bars, bathtubs, indoor and outdoor dining area and outside showers are standard to each unit.

Larger families or groups can retreat to the luxurious tree tops villas where they can touch the sky from a decked terrace with every indulgent need catered for. Either way, your stay at naked Stables will leave you wanting for nothing except to return.
