    Lighting and Colours

    Inside lighting.

Color is linked closely with light because , without light there is no perception ofcolour. With certain types of light , colour can appear more vibrant but other types oflight make the same colors look dull and gray. The light reflection is the essential tothe selection of color and the lighting in restaurant. At nando's the placing anddirection of the lights gives the proper reflection .

    White

    Yellow

    Orange

Redthese 4 colour light is used at inside the nando's restaurant

White light is the composed of equal color component ( Yellow , Orange and Red).

    Colour Combinations

Nature brown is in the color of the wood or timber which is goodand mostly used in the flooring . This color is used in thepartition and floor and on walls inside and outside of nando's.

White color is used mostly on the walls and in some parts ofinterior at nando's.White is purity, cleanliness, and innocence. White goes well withalmost any colour.

Light Brown creates the a warm feeling . Brown can mix into any

surroundings. It is a mixture of red, blue and yellow a and hasmany shades and also for the tones . This colour is used in theinterior and also on the flooring.

Orange and orange mixed with less quantity red is used in thewalls and in the interior . It is said to increase the craving forfood. It also stimulates enthusiasm and creativity.

Black is the absence of all color. Black absorbs all aspects oflight . Black is used in the flooring of nando's restaurantandinside of the restaurant the black is also used but becauseofyellow and white light the black color looks little light black ordark gray.

    Architectural lighting design

Lighting design as it applies to the built environment, also known as 'architectural

lighting design', is both a science and an art. Lighting of structures must consider

aesthetic elements as well as practical considerations of quantity of light required, occupants of the structure, energy efficiency and cost. The amount of daylight

received in an internal space can be analyzed by undertaking a Daylight factor

calculation. For simple installations, hand-calculations based on tabular data can be

used to provide an acceptable lighting design. More critical or optimized designs now

routinely use mathematical modeling on a computer using software such as

Radiance which can allow an Architect to quickly undertake complex calculations to

review the benefit of a particular design.

In some design instances, materials used on walls and furniture play a key role in the

lighting effect. Dark paint tends to absorb light, making the room appear smaller anddimmer than it is, whereas light paint does the opposite. In addition to paint, reflective surfaces also have an effect on lighting design. Surfaces or floors that aretoo reflective create unwanted glare.

    Color properties

To define light source color properties, the lighting industry predominantly relies ontwo metrics, correlated color temperature (CCT), commonly used as an indication ofthe apparent warmth or coolness of the light emitted by a source, andcolorrendering index (CRI), an indication of the light sources ability to make objectsappear natural.

However, these two metrics, developed in the last century, are facing increasedchallenges and criticisms as new types of light sources, particularly light emittingdiodes (LEDs), become more prevalent in the market.

For example, in order to meet the expectations for good color rendering in retailapplications, research suggests using the well-established CRI along with another

metric called gamut area index (GAI). GAI represents the relative separation ofobject colors illuminated by a light source; the greater the GAI, the greater theapparent saturation or vividness of the object colors. As a result, light sources whichbalance both CRI and GAI are generally preferred over ones that have only high CRIor only high GAI.

Type of light & lighting in Nando's

Ambient lighting provides an area with overall illumination. Also known as

general lighting, it radiates a comfortable level of brightness without glare and

allows you to see and walk about safely. In some spaces such as laundry

rooms, the ambient lighting also serves as the primary source of task lighting.

It can be accomplished with chandeliers, ceiling or wall-mounted

fixtures, recessed or track lights and with lanterns mounted on the

outside of the home. Having a central source of ambient light in all

rooms is fundamental to a good lighting plan.

Accent lighting (also called feature lighting or highlighting) adds drama to a

room by creating visual interest. Accent Lighting requires at least three times

as much light on the focal point as the general lighting around it. This usually

is provided by track lighting, recessed lighting, or wall mounted fixtures suchas picture lights. Lamps with opaque shades are good ways to achieve accent

    lighting.

Pendants Pendant lights are hung from the ceiling and mainly focus the light

downward. Theyre great for dining tables or other work areas. Chandeliers

are a type of pendant light, but theyre usually much showier and they can

    cast light in every direction.

Recessed Lights Recessed lights continue to be very popular, especially in

new homes. They can provide a lot of light and can be placed over areaswhere tasks are performed, such as a kitchen countertop. Theyre actually a

fairly inexpensive alternative to some ceiling fixtures and give a cleaner, more

    modern look.

Sconce These light fixtures are affixed directly to the wall and can be

designed to cast light either upward or downward. They work best in

    repetition.

    Different types of lighting (bulb)

Incandescent Incandescent lamps have relatively short lives (typically 1000 to2000 hours of use) and are the least efficient of common light sources. In fact,

only about 15 percent of the energy they use comes out as light the rest

becomes heat. However, they produce a pleasant color that is similar to natural

sunlight. Incandescent lamps are the least expensive to buy but the most

expensive to operate. Reduced-wattage incandescent produce about the same

light output but consume less energy than standard bulbs.

Tungsten-halogen Halogen lamps are a type of incandescent lamp that has

become increasingly popular in recent years. They produce a whiter, more

intense light than standard incandescent and are typically used for decorative,

display or accent lighting. Halogen spotlights also have good focusing ability in

small areas. They are about twice as efficient as regular incandescent lamps and

last two to four times longer than most incandescent lamps.

Compact Fluorescent Lamps Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are similar in

operation to standard fluorescent lamps but are manufactured to produce colors

similar to incandescent lamps. They are available in a range of types and sizes to

meet most applications including down lighting, ambience, task and general

space lighting. CFLs are about four times as efficient as incandescent and last up

to 10 times longer. Lamp ballast combinations that replace incandescent in

standard fixtures are substantially more expensive than their incandescentcounterparts.

Tubular fluorescent fixtures Tubular fluorescent lamps are one of the most

common sources of commercial lighting and also are among the most efficient.

The new generation of small diameter lamps (T-8 and T-10) is particularly

efficient. It is important to understand that lamps and ballasts work as a system

and the overall efficiency of a lighting fixture is dependent on the lamp/ballast

combination. Traditional magnetic ballasts are less efficient than modern

electronic ballasts. All ballasts are now required by the government to meet

minimum efficiency standards. Fluorescent lamps last up to 20,000 hours of use.

High-intensity discharge (HID) This category of high output light sources that

includes mercury vapor, metal halide, high-pressure sodium and low-pressure

sodium lighting. As with fluorescent lights, HID lights require ballast for proper

lamp operation. The efficiency of HID sources varies widely from mercury vapor

with efficiency almost as low as incandescent - to low-pressure sodium which isamong the most efficient light sources. Color rendering varies widely from the

bluish cast of mercury vapor lamps to the distinctly yellow light of low-pressure

    sodium.

LED lamps have been advocated as the newest and best environmental lighting

method According to the Energy Saving Trust, LED lamps use only 10% powers

compared to a standard incandescent bulb, where compact fluorescent lamps

use20% and energy saving halogen lamps 70%. A downside is still the initial

cost, which is higher than that of compact fluorescent lamps. General Electric

expects to begin producing organic LEDs for architectural use by 2010.

    Advantages and Disadvantages

Here I took LED lamps as n examples for advantages and disadvantages because it

is as the newest and best environmental lighting method According to the Energy

    Saving Trust.

LED light bulbs are a great choice for many different reasons and can be usedthroughout the restaurant for many different reasons. LED light bulbs have manyadvantages over other types but they also have their disadvantages.

LED Advantages -Extremely long life span.

Don't just cut out straight away when life is low.

LED Disadvantages -Not very high voltage so light isn't huge.

Now to go over a few of these advantages and disadvantages, the first advantage, extremely long life span is a very good thing for these LED bulbs. LED's can last upto 200,000 hours but they mostly should be changed roughly around the 50,000 hourmark as once they reach here they usually start to dim down which means that theyneed changing. This brings me on to the next advantage which is that they don't justcut out when they are finished.

LED bulbs will start to fade and not be as bright when they start to run out so you willalways have time to get more or change the bulb, also you will still be able to use thebulb for a while longer.

These types of bulbs do not give out huge light so that is why they are usuallyrecommended for side lights, night lights and corner of the room lights. LED bulbsare not limited to these at all but they are recommended use for them. People canfind that this is a disadvantage but you can still use normal bulbs for your main lightand then just use LED lights for smaller areas etc.

Another thing about LED bulbs is that they do not give off very much heat which canbe regarded as very good considering other incandescent bulbs can give off most ofits power as heat which reduces your bulbs lifespan. All of a LED bulbs power goesinto producing light.

One thing to remember which can be considered when using any type of bulb is "Donot look directly at the light", the light that a LED bulb gives off is an intense low lightso it can be very dangerous for your eyes if you look directly at it.

The great thing about LED bulbs is that they are just solid light so there is nothingthat can potentially fail except for it running out after constant use for years, you areeven able to get different colours displayed from one depending on what kind ofallow is used when producing the light.

    THERMAL COMFORT

The most commonly used indicator of thermal comfort is air temperature it is easy

to use and most people can relate to it. But although it is an important indicator to

take into account, air temperature alone is neither a valid nor an accurate indicator ofthermal comfort or thermal stress. Air temperature should always be considered in

relation to other environmental and personal factors.

The six factors affecting thermal comfort are both environmental and personal.

These factors may be independent of each other, but together contribute to a

    workers thermal comfort.

    Environmental factors:

    Air temperature

    Radiant temperature

    Air velocity

    Humidity

    Personal factors:

    Clothing Insulation

    Metabolic heat

At Nandos they have done a lot of stuff for thermal comfort , the first thing is that the

design of nandos at IOI is outside of the mall which allow the air flow and natural

light to come inside properly .

Inside Nandos the placing of air conditioner is on the top selling and the position is

also done , from which the customers will have any kind of disturbances

They have not used any kind of material which will affect the thermal comfort cause

the Thermal Mass describes the potential of a material to store and re-release

thermal energy. Materials with high thermal mass, such as concrete slabs or

heavyweight walls, can help regulate indoor comfort by radiating or absorbing heat,

creating a heating or cooling effect. They have used the terracotta brick outside and

form of light colours and lights and material inside like which allow the inside

    temperature to be tolerable .

These make up part of the construction of nando's at IOI . At nando's the flooringIs done in a very nicely way , there are two types of flooring is done inside and

Outside of nando's.1 ) Timber flooring which shows the area looks wilder , bigger and brighter which isused inside the places like bathroom and dinning place and outside of nando's nearthe entrances .2 ) marble flooring shows the elegant and sophisticated looks which is used insideside, the kitchen ,in the washroom and sitting and dinning places in side therestaurant.

The floor offers great durability, a full comfortable texture and a casual ,informal look.Any type of floor gives the same soft look and feel of broadloom but they are farmore versatile .Floor coverings have to put up with a lot: the abrasion of constant

foot traffic, the grit, dirt or salt brought in from outdoors on countless shoes, the many staining orcorrosive substances that might be spilled on them and the variety of aggressivecleaning materials and techniques. And at the same time, floor coverings have tolook attractive, be easy to install. The Type of Flooring which is done inside and outside of nando's is done in a veryremarkable way that any 1 will be willing to see how is it done from inside of therestaurant.

    Acoustic

The branch of physics that deals with the production, control, transmission, receptionand effects of sound.

    In architecture and interior design

    activities

Many of the reasons for not wanting a particular sound can be identified by theeffects that can have on the listener or on the environment. Some of the effects are

    Hearing loss

    Quality of life

    Interference

The acceptance of noise by people obviously depends on individual hearingsensitivity and upon living habits. The acceptance of noise is also affected by theexternal factors outlined below.

Soundproofing or acoustic insulating are basic if you are in need of a sound barrier in

. Thermal insulation is even more important because it shields or forms a barrier

around you home which prevents the outside conditions from penetrating inside and

the interior environment from escaping to the outside. When considering different

types of insulation for , why not choose one product that can deliver a combination of

both sound and thermal protection? Acoustic foam insulation has revolutionized the

home building industry because many companies have added thermal barrier

qualities to their already highly effective soundproofing products

At nandos the control of noise is been done or install properly. According to the

structure of nandos at IOI all the Action against the noise which causes concern in

the Nandos building , was being solved by using the Acoustic material . Outside ofthe Nandos the wall is cladded by Terracotta bricks which keeps the sound from

    entering the interior .

Malaysia is a country of diverse cultures and traditions, it is not surprising that its

cuisine is just as varied. As one might expect, each state has its own specializeddishes as well as different means of preparation and variations in taste. Prominentraces in Malaysia are Malays , Chinese and Indian Tamil , all of them eat chicken .Nando's is one of the dinning restaurant which surf best chicken which is not deepfried nor cooked in a very unhygienic way and its its very easy to get and the rates ofall items are reasonable price.
