Alarm Filtering and Reclassification is a tool for alarm reduction and improving work efficiency by filtering and reclassifying alarms so that the most important network status information is easily recognised.

Page 30: NetAct Presentation OSS52

30 © Nokia Siemens Networks Customer Confidential – Non Binding

NetAct Monitor – Alarm history handling

Alarm History Handling is intended for troubleshooting network problems by making database queries to alarm database.

Page 31: NetAct Presentation OSS52

31 © Nokia Siemens Networks Customer Confidential – Non Binding

NetAct Monitor – Maintenance mode

With Maintenance Mode you can set a network element or the whole subnetwork of the network element to “maintenance state” and reduce the load on NetAct by blocking unnecessary alarms. This allows the control room staff to concentrate on the operational network elements and real faults. Maintenance Mode is activated and deactivated from the Top-level User Interface and the objects in maintenance mode are shown as blue. In maintenance mode no alarms from the network element are received. When the element is returned to operational state, the NetAct alarm database and the network element are synchronised. Maintenance Mode works in a similar manner to a filtering rule, but is easier to use from the Top-level User Interface, convenient for short time use and has more visibility. Queries and textual reports of network elements in maintenance mode can be created with Alarm History Handling.

Page 32: NetAct Presentation OSS52

32 © Nokia Siemens Networks Customer Confidential – Non Binding

NetAct Monitor – Modifiable Alarm manual

Modifiable Alarm Manual provides an integrated access to alarm reference information making it easy to verify the meaning of a fault. Each alarm manual page is modifiable.

Page 33: NetAct Presentation OSS52

33 © Nokia Siemens Networks Customer Confidential – Non Binding

NetAct Monitor – Alarm correlation

Alarm Correlation is intended for correlating alarm sequences so that only the alarms indicating the root cause of a fault are shown in the active alarms' list. Correlation rules include, compression, count, suppression and informing delay. Operators can implement also their own correlation rules.

NetAct Monitor – Alarm forwarding to E-mail

Alarm Forwarding to E-mail is a tool for letting the responsible persons (field maintenance) know without delay of certain alarms and though to guarantee the service of the network at all times.

Page 35: NetAct Presentation OSS52

35 © Nokia Siemens Networks Customer Confidential – Non Binding

NetAct Monitor – Alarm trigger

Alarm Trigger provides a simple and efficient solution for automating processes that are necessary in daily network management. By automatically starting processes on the basis of alarms defined by operator, Reduces the amount of manual work required in the network monitoring routines. Triggering is controlled by rules specified in a configuration file. The rules include:• Alarm events which trigger the process• The process to be triggered: all processes that are executable from command line (UNIX commands, NetAct applications, SQL scripts, Perl scripts)

Alarm Trigger usage examples:• Automatic network element resets triggered by certain alarms• Automatic locking/unlocking of network element triggered by certain alarms • Forwarding low-volume alarm data to the external systems, for example automatic trouble ticket creation• Generating notifications to customer's own systems or system management platforms, for example, IT/Operations• Also internal alarms are included, for examples, alarms from other NetAct applications

Main Window of Software Manager

User must first select NE Type (s)he wants to operate with. If Sub Type exists it must be selected as well.

The main window consists of three views. The views provide different viewpoints to SW management: Network SW Status (default), SW Archive and Tasks.

Information is available in table format. Data can be sorted and filtered by all columns. The user can also modify column set (select desired columns) to personalize the working view.

User can select the relevant set of data (columns) to be displayed from each of the elements. By using filters only the relevant network elements to be worked with are shown in the table.

Tab area below the main data area includes auxiliary Details and New Task tools. The user can close tabs by clicking x-mark. When tabs are closed, the user can open tabs again from the Tool menu commands, Nokia bar icons and Pop-up commands. Tabs are visible as default.

Page 75: NetAct Presentation OSS52

Software Manager Details tab

User sees detailed information of selected item in Details tab.

User is able to see

NE Name, DN, Parent 1 name, Parent 2 name, Parent 3 name, Version, upload time (Uploaded), maintenance region (MR) and Address (if they are available)

The five latest executed, ongoing or waiting tasks for selected NE. Tasks are sorted by start time so that the latest task is on top of the list.

SW Configuration i.e. all SW packages and files in selected NE.

“Files…” button open Files dialog.

“SW Details…” button opens SW Details dialog. SW details information which is shown on SW Details dialog depends on NE Type.

Page 76: NetAct Presentation OSS52

Software Manager Show SW Status Dialog

User gets easily overview about SW Configurations in selected

network elements or in the whole network by using Show SW Status tool.

The dialog shows

All SW Packages in network for selected NEs. The user can also check “Show Software Status of the all prefiltered NEs”, then (s)he is able to check SW status in the whole network managed by the NetAct

NE count for each SW package, separately for active and passive SW. In case of DX200 separately for New (NW), Backup (BU), Fallback (FB), Untitled (UT), and Running

User can select (check) SW packages with certain status (active/passive) and after (s)he has pressed “Replace Existing Selection” button, elements with that SW will be shown in the Network Elements table. For example: in case the user wants to download the new SW package to all network elements which don’t have it yet, it’s worth using this feature. The progress of upgrade process can be followed with Show SW Status functionality.

Page 77: NetAct Presentation OSS52

Software Manager Network Software Status Checking in Case of Bulk Elements

User gets maximum space for Network Elements table by closing tabs and minimising Parent View.

This is essential when user works with so-called ”bulk NEs” like e.g. BTSes, AXCs and WBTSes. It is possible that there are thousands of NEs and it must be possible also in that case make sensitive filtering and selection based on different kind of criteria (e.g. active SW package, parents, Upload time).

User is able to select multiple items from tables (also from Task table) by using shift or Ctrl-buttons.
