TheSkyEtc

How the nickname TheSkyEtc came up?in the movie High Fidelity, the author of the same name novel Nick Hornby, comes up with a totally not true band, Licorice Comfits. One of the movie characters, the unmentionably music geek dick (makes a rhyme) mentions to John Cusack’s char-acter that he just found their first album over at Vintage Vinyl you know the japa-nese import only? the one on testament of Youth? anyway he could tape it for him it's no problem really since he liked the second album (Pop Girls, Etc.), the one with Cheryl Ladd on the cover oh but he didn't see the cover cause he just had the tape that he made him so he'll just go ahead and make a tape of it for him.Well, a morning after a routine late night watch of High Fidelity i was playing the guitar and since that time around (spring 2004) i was really stuck on the explosions in the sky album “the earth is Not a Cold

dead Place” the melodies i was coming up with, were really similar to their sound. so one of those little tunes was named “the sky, etc.” as a small tribute to both the movie and the band. Later on i used it as a nickname for my photo blog theskyetc.deviantart.com and that stuck with me ever since. it’s really funny, because lots of people think i refer to myself with that nickname, but that would be quite arro-gant, wouldn’t it?

What's your relation with the music and broadcasting? Would you like to tell us more about your connection, the fetish on music, your favorite sound, groups and Radiobubble?i live and breathe music and always had the need to share the part of which i loved the most. so i guess broadcast-ing is an extension of that sharing, but clearly more interactive and with a feed-

back quite overwhelming. radiobubble took what i had to share and blasted it towards every direction, for which i can only be thankful. as far as i can tell, music is no longer a fetish of mine, there is no urge of listening every sound out there or every new record and certainly there is no time to point out the shortcomings. if i stumble upon something worth listen-ing i just embrace it. this week i rather enjoy atoms For Peace, tom Harrell, the Unknown Mortal orchestra and iceage. there is no favorite sound but if push comes to shove i’d go with the awkward world of tom Waits.

What is your occupation the last years?Besides my job (in the healthcare field) which is the only thing that pays my rent, i manage to spend my time in totally un-related things. the previously mentioned broadcasting, blogging as the half of Penguins & Butterflies (i suppose i’m the penguin), the series of sunday Night mix-tapes, photography digital artwork, such as posters and record artwork (the You and What army Faction 7"). From time to time i lay out some guitar tunes for my dear friend sigmataf and a couple of them made it to his records. everything possible to keep me sane.

What would be the perfect project about visualizing ideas or states about the scenery you most want to expose?standing alone in an abandoned city.

Enemies. Friends. Women. Political scene. Music. World troubles. TheSkyEtc. Who are they in your life or which is the posi-tion in your life and where you drive them in any case?

Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. My enemies lie within my own darkness and my friends are those who can see through that and cope with it. in retrospective we can look into the abyss together so the women can look back at us (hahaha). the political scene. Yes. that. People al-ways manage to find new ways to let themselves be enslaved and i guess politics is their finest masterpiece. Social awareness though has nothing to do with politics. the world always had its troubles, it’s just now that we can be aware of and that defines us as part of the problem.

Would you share with Neu Tymes read-ers one of your worst days? And an awe-some one?if i don’t drink coffee within 2hrs from waking up that in my book is already a bad day. and i had many days like that in the past two years, stuck in the traffic with an overload of work waiting for me at the office. And every f*****g time I get a glimpse of my younger self walking by and giving me the finger while I wait for the green light. oh well.an awesome day on the contrary would be definitely home on a rainy day with no-where to go and lots of time to spend as pleased.

Who is your love or what these days?the other half of the penguin.

A proposal please that we shouldn't miss.Haneke's amour.

ConfectioneryConfectionery is related to the food items that are rich in sug-ar and often referred to as a confection. Confectionery refers to the art of creating sugar based dessert forms, or subtleties (subtlety or sotelty), often with pastillage. From the old French confection, origin of Latin confectio(n-), from conficere, to 'put together'.the confectionery industry also includes specialized training schools and extensive historical records. traditional confectionery goes back to ancient times, and continued to be eaten through the Middle ages into the modern era. Confections include sweet foods, sweetmeats, digestive aids that are sweet, elaborate creations, and something amusing and frivolous.Modern usage may include substances rich in artificial sweeten-ers as well. the words candy (North america), sweets (UK and ireland), and lollies (australia and New Zealand) are also used for the extensive variety of confectionery.Generally, confections are low in micronutrients but rich in calo-ries. specially formulated chocolate has been manufactured in the past for military use as a high density food energy source.

Sweetening agentsConfectioneries are defined by the presence of sweeteners. these are usually sugars, but it is possible to buy sugar-free sweets, such as sugar-free peppermints. Most common is the di-saccharide sucrose. Hydrolysis of sucrose gives a mixture called invert sugar, which is sweeter and is also a common ingredient. Finally confectioneries, especially commercial ones, are sweet-ened by a variety of syrups obtained by hydrolysis of starch, these include corn syrup. sucrose is the most common sweeten-ing agent in confectioneries.

ExamplesFurther information: List of candiesRock candy is simply sugar with colouring or flavor added. Peeps are one of many types of marshmallow-type candies. Brittles are a combination of nuts and caramelized sugar. Chocolate is a common and popular confectionery and can be used in a wide variety of ways. Confectionery items include sweets, lollipops, candy bars, chocolate, cotton candy, and other sweet items of snack food. the term does not generally apply to cakes, biscuits, or puddings which require cutlery to consume, although excep-tions such as petits fours or meringues exist.

This delicious, pink dressed cake was more than a surprise - offer to NEu Tymes team!

some of the categories and types of con-fectionery include the following:Caramels. derived from a mixture of su-crose, glucose syrup, and milk products. the mixture does not crystallize, thus re-mains tacky.Chocolates. Bite-sized confectioneries generally made with chocolate.divinity. a nougat-like confectionery based on egg whites with chopped nuts.dodol. a toffee-like food delicacy popular in indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippinesdragée. sugar-coated almonds and other types of sugar panned candy.Fondant. Prepared from a warm mixture of glucose syrup and sucrose, which is partially crystallized. The fineness of the crystallites results in a creamy texture.Fudge. Made by boiling milk and sugar to the soft-ball stage. in the Us, it tends to be chocolate-flavored.Halvah. Confectionery based on tahini, a paste made from ground sesame seeds.Hard sweets. Based on sugars cooked to the hard-crack stage. examples in-clude suckers (known as boiled sweets in British english), lollipops, jawbreakers (or gobstoppers), lemon drops, pepper-mint drops and disks, candy canes, rock

candy, etc. also included are types often mixed with nuts such as brittle. others contain flavorings including coffee such as Kopiko.Ice cream. Frozen, flavoured cream, of-ten containing small pieces of chocolate, fruits and/or nuts.Jelly candies. including those based on sugar and starch, pectin, gum, or gela-tin such as turkish delight (lokum), jelly beans, gumdrops, jujubes, gummies, etc.Liquorice. Containing extract of the liquo-rice root. Chewier and more resilient than gum/gelatin candies, but still designed for swallowing. For example, Liquorice allsorts. Has a similar taste to star anise.Marshmallow. "Peeps" (a trade name), cir-cus peanuts, fluffy puff, etc.Marzipan. an almond-based confection, doughy in consistency, served in several different ways.Mithai. a generic term for confectionery in india, typically made from dairy prod-ucts and/or some form of flour. Sugar or molases are used as sweeteners.tablet. a crumbly milk-based soft and hard candy, based on sugars cooked to the soft-ball stage. Comes in several forms, such as wafers and heart shapes.

Not to be confused with tableting, a meth-od of candy production.taffy or chews. a candy that is folded many times above 50 °C, incorporating air bubbles thus reducing its density and making it opaque.

risksexcessive consumption of confectionery has been associated with increased inci-dences of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay.some sweets contain traces of nuts which poses risks for those who are allergic to them, while others contain dairy products which must be avoided by individuals who are lactose-intolerant.Contaminants and coloring agents as well as toys and other non-nutritive prod-ucts in confectionery can be particularly harmful to children. this non-nutritive material can cause injury or pose chok-ing hazards. therefore, confectionery contaminants such as high levels of lead have been restricted to 1ppm in the Us. There is no specific maximum in the EU, which doesn’t seem to be appropriate es-pecially for kids from 1 to 7 years of age.

Candy colorants, particularly yellow col-orants such as e102 tartrazine, e104 Qui-noline Yellow and e110 sunset Yellow FCF, do have many restrictions around the world. tartrazine, for example, can cause allergic and asthmatic reactions and was once banned in austria, Germany and Norway. some countries such as the UK have asked the food industry to phase out the use of these colorants, especially for products marketed to children. Non-nutritive toy products such as chocolate eggs containing packaging with a toy inside are banned from sale in the Us. if the material attached to confectionery does have a function and will not cause any injury to the consumer, it is allowed to be marketed. in the eU however, the toy safety directive 2009/48/eC speci-fies that toys contained in food only need separate packaging that cannot be swal-lowed.
