This is just the beginning of a very long journey. I also acknowledge that this exercise will take a lot of extra effort and sacrifice from all of you. I take this opportunity to thank all those who have been working tirelessly to develop the business plan and now trying to realise it. I also take this opportunity to thank all heads of divisions and the ‘I AM PROTASCO’ committee for the extra effort put in the task to make today’s event possible.

I AM PROTASCO; LET’S ROCK IT!!Thank you…

PROTASCO Newsletter will replace KISBAR as the official newsletter of the Protasco Group effective 1 July 2014. Simply called PROTASCO, this newsletter will give equal highlights to events that took place within the Protasco Group and will be a twice yearly publication.

In this digital edge, while people are fast adopting the new style of reading from their e-book devices, we choose to maintain something from the traditional method i.e. printing out hard copies of the publication. This would enable you to place the newsletter around your offices for ease of reading.

The transformation of KISBAR to PROTASCO is perhaps very timely and in-line with all the efforts that is currently being taken by the organisation to propel Protasco to even greater heights. In April 2014, Protasco launched it new Vision & Mission along with a set of Core Values aims at uniting its people. News of the event and contents of the program is being shared in this newsletter.

Since PROTASCO will only be published twice in a year, it will archive all the events that took place in the last 6 months before publication. Therefore, we will not be able to carry all news and reports as soon as it happened but the newsletter will be the best archiving media in addition to those that have been placed in the Staff Portal.

Do refer to the Staff Portal(iportal.protasco.com.my) for the latest of what is happening in the Group.

In this issue we have highlighted major events at the corporate level including Protasco’s 10th year anniversary celebration, the I AM PROTASCO Launch and events that took place at the regional level.

We hope that you will enjoy reading the newsletter and that it will be treasured as one of our best effort to unite the Protasco Group.

In his opening speech, Dato’ Sri Ir Chong Ket Pen, laid out the reasons behind the need for ProtascoBerhad to embark on this guided journey. In his own words, heexplained that while the Group had developed fairly well in the lastdecade since its establishment, Protasco Berhad as a Group can no longer rely on the various different visions of its subsidiary companies in order to move further. TheManagement has to ensure that the whole organisation will be able to continue moving forward, and that calls for the introduction of the new Vision & Mission Statement of the Protasco Group.

With its very diversified businessactivities, the Group must be able to hold together as a strongconglomerate to be a forcefulcompetitor in all of its playing fields. The Group had performed fairly well in the last decade but in order tocontinue being sustainable, mustfollow a shared Vision & Mission. The missions for the Group address all the diversified stake holders of the Group from shareholders, toemployees and its customers.

In this journey to engineerProtasco’s success, the Vision &Mission is supported by a set of Core Values that would act as a guide for the staff of Protasco Berhad tounderstand and embrace theVision & Mission Statement.

Four (4) sessions of a 3 day 2 Nightintensive programme were held and received an overall positiveresponse from the participants:

Nora amir (iKram)

“I think the program is good and Ienjoyed it, but I think what we can improve is only the timing of the event and hotel. What I means is probably we can start the program early by 3 pm so we can go back early as we check out from the hotel. Overall, the programme is great.”

“Congratulations! And THANK YOUProtasco. It was a great workshop which acts as a sensitivity andmotivational training for all of us who attended the workshop. The training consultant was very professional, creative, competent, full of energy and fun, and these make learning about our core values more effective. It was indeed an enrichingexperience! Thank you once again.”

HaroLD PooNG WaN HiNG (iUKL)

“I attended the 3rd session of the ‘I Am Protasco’ training. Personally, I would like to congratulate theorganising committee for the efforts, hardwork and most importantly, selecting the right training provider to conduct such a wonderful training. Of course, I had my own prejudice when it comes to attending training for 3 days 2 nights that it might beboring and too lengthy. This training has proved me wrong and I enjoyed all the sessions from the beginning until the end. The trainers were really good. For me, they have successfully obtained the objectives the training and I can bravely said that ‘I Am Protasco’. The most interesting part of the training for me is the activities. The activities were so exciting and I am attracted to some of them that I wish to share them with my faculty members. My gratefulness of being selected toparticipate in such training isbeyond words (of course it sounded like ‘macam over jer’).

In short, CONGRATULATIONS and a BIG THANK YOU to your team!”

moHammaD ZaKi BUaNG (KPS-HCm)

“My sincere opinion to this I AmProtasco course are indeed veryinteresting. It helps us to understand our company Vision & Mission. All the programme that wereconducted by the trainers are very good especially the card pictures activity. It makes us understand the meaning of a team work in order to completing a task.

I really hope that the same trainer will be given the opportunity to conduct next assignment for us...”

Upon completion of this program,a group of Champions will beidentified to share and encourage the practices of the Core Values among staff of the whole Group, to ensure continuity of the practices.

i aM Protasco : LEt’s rocK itOne of the most effective methods to constantly remind staffs of the values that the organisation wishes to instill in the staff is to have an organisation call-out. From the Protasco Core Values, we are able to pick out one of thestrongest call-out that will identify with all the staff in the Group. One of the descriptor of the Core Value is ‘Take Pride – I AM PROTASCO’.

‘I AM PROTASCO’ have since been picked up by staff to become acommon sign-off on all theircorrespondences.

‘Take Pride – I AM PROTASCO’ calls for all Protasco staff to be proud of the fact that they are indeed a member of Protasco Group. They should be proud torch bearers of the Protasco identity and therefore must ensure that the Protasco image to itsstakeholders is always protected.

Incidentally, the core values of the group that adds up to an acronym of ‘ROCK IT’, injected a little bit of fun in the whole exercise when staff goes around calling out to each other “I AM PROTASCO – Let’s ROCK IT!”

On 20 October 2013, a total of 40 staff of Protasco Group participated in the hiking trip to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), organised by the Healthy Body Healthy Mind 2013 Campaign’s committee. The participants were excited and prepared for the challenging yet healthy trip, fully dressed in sports attire. The 40 staff were divided into two (2) groups, each led by a tour guide. The hiking trip kicked off with a tour into FRIM’s ResearchGallery where both groups learnt the types of wood found in Malaysia and the products produced from every research FRIM made such as medicine, ointments and many more.

After the tour, the participants made their way to FRIM’s reserved forest consisting six (6) nature trails. The hiking tripbegan with the Keruing Trail, where participants wind their way through one of FRIM’s oldest plantations and boasts of statuesque commercial timber trees. Through every trail, plenty of information was shared by the assigned tour guides on the variety of plants preserved in the forest. Hiking through the rough grounds of the forest was certainly a challenge but the beauty of the greenery was exceptionally breathtaking that made it all worthwhile.

Before leaving the forest, the participants had a chance to walk across long bridges through the Canopy Walkway, over viewing the beautiful skyline of Kuala Lumpur. For lunch, they were brought to FRIM’s picnic area.

In conjunction with the Healthy Body Healthy Mind 2013 Campaign, it is hoped that through this trip, staff members will realise how important it is to be healthy and fit. You don’t need to wait for a hiking trip to be held, but you could just have a walk or cycle around your neighbourhood to exercise your body and mind.

The Mid-Autumn Festival or more famously known as the Chinese Moon Cake Festival is one of the most important festivals for the Chinese. During the time of this festival, the moon will shine at its brightest.

In celebration of this festival, the IUKL Chinese Society had organised the ‘IUKL Mid-Autumn Festival’ on 21 September 2013, at the Multipurpose Hall (MPH). ‘Moonlight Resonance’ was the theme for the event.

The Chinese believed that the act of moon watching can help reunite those who are far away from their family. The event was a huge success. All of the 30 tables placed in the hall were filled with family and friends, who were later feted to a sumptuous dinner.

It was a heart-warming event with rejuvenating performances such asAcrobatics, LED dance, Sand Art and Chinese Yo-Yo. The hall was beautifully decorated with Chinese lanterns hung across the hall, adding joy to thefestivity. The event helped to promote understanding of local cultures among the international students.
