Smarter Planet
We are living in a new landscape
© 2010 IBM Vietnam3
By 2020, government interactions will require "perpetual collaboration" across trans-national agencies, societies, governments and constituencies.
In the U.S., as population grew nearly 20% between 1982 and 2001, traffic jumped 236%.
In Stockholm, a new smart toll system has reduced traffic congestion and carbon emissions by impressive percentages
“In 1900 only 13% of the world's population lived in cities. By 2050, that number will be 70%.”
The Need for Action is Clear

WebSphere BPM for Government Processes need to provide consistent and timely responses, especially in public safety
Efficiency frees up resources for the front-line.
Public Services need to share services rather then duplicating them.
Governments are looking to transform public services for the benefit of citizens, businesses, taxpayers and front-line staff.
The need for more channels today creates the need for re-use and flexibility of services.– Example: Processing status needs to be accessible not only by phone, but also but internet and
mobile phone.
BPM is not only helpful for monitoring key processes but is also essential for triggering alerts when key exceptions are identified
– Example: hospital record access time has slowed down significantly, which will cause benefits processing delays tomorrow.
Transparent integration within and between agencies and departments is key to enabling better processes
– Example: an unemployment agency has to share relevant information seamlessly with the partner organizations (e.g. job centers)
Results must be shown not only within government but also to the citizens to justify the transformation.
