TV CHOSUN Global Leaders Forum 2019

The Global Leaders Forum (GLF), hosted by TV Chosun, is the country’s premier

international forum where global leaders come together to discuss and provide

possible solutions for the issues that Korea is facing today.

Korea is just around the corner of facing the enormous changes in the Fourth

Industrial Revolution. Climate Change and Fine dusts have emerged as urgent

topics to be solved. The <TV CHOSUN Global Leaders Forum>, turning seventh this

year, opens with the theme of ‘Beyond Korea, Unlocking The Future’. The forum

introduces the ‘SmartCity’ that encompasses the Fourth industrial Revolution

technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), mobility, and blockchain, presenting

a new vision of humanity where technology and environment harmonize.

Steve Glickman who is an Economic Advisor of the Opportunity Zone during the

Obama Administration and John Clippinger, ‘SmartCity’ designer and a professor of

MIT MediaLab will join the forum. Also, Jerry Chen, a leading AI Director of NVIDIA

and Kimberly Sarah X who is a General Manager of the Southeast Asia’s largest

car-sharing company ‘Grab’ will be present. Moreover, Welby Altidor, a director of

‘Cirque de Soleil’ who has turned the circus into an art with his imaginations, and

other more than 40 world-renowned experts will gather as speakers and panels.

TV CHOSUN Chairman Hong Too Pyo

humans are now facing an unexpected problem.

The global villages are suffering from fine dust as the speed of prevailing westerlies from the northern hemisphere, slow down due to the climate change. This problem is happening not only in Korea but all around the world including India, China and many other cities.

TV CHOSUN Global Leaders Forum will present a vision to overcome this issue. The Opportunity Zone, which is the 4th Industrial Zone, is a showcase of the new DNA of city vision with the latest technologies, including AI and Self-Driving vehicles. You can see the blue sky without greenhouse gas and fine dust in here.

World Atmospheric Congress is about to urge an international resolution on such a matter by establishing the Enactment Promotion Committee of the UN Air Day.

GLF introduces the latest technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, including AI, Blockchain, Bio, and Genomic Map. The door of the future only opens with the spirit of ‘Beyond Korea’ that does not stay complacent.

TV CHOSUN Global Leaders Forum hopes to draw a blueprint of future Korea by gathering the best knowledge and brilliant imaginations.

Thank you.

Session 1Climate Change and Air

‘Greta Thunberg Effect’. Greta Tunberg, a Swedish teen

environmental activist on climate change, recently gave a

speech at the United Nations, Climate Action Summit. She said

to all the global leaders that the whole ecosystem has been

completely destroyed and thus, they should take an action for

the climate change.

Climate change causes the scorching heat that happens

frequently in today’s society. The United Nations Human Rights

Council (UNHRC) reported that as the air pollution is getting

severe, 7million people in the world are annually dying. Due to

the extreme climate change, people from Alaska have already

given up fishing and hunting, and the fire from Amazon keeps

occurring. Countries around the world are more desperate than

ever to establish the UN Air Day to cope with climate change.

In this session, Martin Frick, UNFCCC’s Director for Policy and

Programme Coordination, Paul Werbos, a Former Program

Director of the National Science Foundation, Mark Maslin,

Director of the UCL Environment Institute, and other global

environmental experts will gather together and discuss the

future of climate change including implementing UN Air Day.

Session 2The Land of Opportunity, District of the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Opportunity Zone is a Regional development program implemented

in 2017 by the U.S to promote long-term investment in

relatively underdeveloped areas. Eight thousand seven hundred

underdeveloped cities are covered and private companies and funds

will receive tax relief or zero tax if they invest in the specified area.

The Opportunity Zone, named as the second New Deal, will be

transformed into a completely new city that encompasses the fourth

industrial revolution technologies, including autonomous vehicles,

AI, and the Solar. Firms with large capitals collaborate and invest

with governments in abandoned cities. The city, which has been

invested with full of energy is being transformed into a completely

different DNA city that is different from the past. This is how the

Opportunity Zone looks like in today’s society.

In this session, global financial experts and Maker City specialists

will discuss the future of the Opportunity Zone. Steve Glickman who

implemented the Opportunity Zone, serving as the vice-president

of the National Economic Council of the White House, John

Clippinger, professor of the MIT Media Lab, and Peter Hirshberg, the

co-founder of the Maker City Project will join and draw a blueprint

for the new Smart City.

Special Session 1The Difference in Imagination Makes the Most Difference

Welby Altidor is the Chief Creative Officer at Cityneon and a former director of the world’s most hit performance, ‘Cirque du Soleil’.

During 16 years of his career at the ’Cirque du Soleil ’, including Las Vegas’s the most popular show, ‘Michael Jackson One’, Welby Altidor made several masterpiece such as <Kooza> and <Quidam>. He argues that “Artists can be creative but creativity and artistry are not the same thing”, saying that creativity indicates attitudes of trying and challenging something that has not existed before. His spirit of ‘art’ which separated the stage from the audience, and the style of performing on the audience’s head provided people with the exoticness and sympathy, which helped Altidor to gain a toehold in becoming a Star Director.

Altidor, who is recently taking a position of the general director of ‘Jurassic World’, is providing experiences that do not only give an eye enjoyment but also scientific information to the audience. JURRASIC WORLD EXPOSITION was first held in Korea which is meaningful in a way that first took place in the region of the whole Asia.

Welby Altidor is the Chief Creative Officer at Cityneon and a former director of the

world’s most hit performance, ‘Cirque du Soleil’.

During 16 years of his career at the ‘Cirque du Soleil ’, including Las Vegas’s the most

popular show, ‘Michael Jackson One’, he has made several works such as <Kooza> and

<Quidam>.

He argues that “Artists can be creative but creativity and artistry are not the same

thing”, saying that creativity indicates all the attitude of trying and challenging

something that has not existed before. His spirit of ‘art’ separated the stage from the

audience, and the style of performing above the audience’s head provided people with

the exoticness and sympathy, which helped Altidor to gain a toehold in becoming a

Star Director.

Altidor, who is recently taking a position of the general director of ‘Jurassic World’,

is providing experiences that do not only give eye enjoyment but also scientific

information to the audience. JURRASIC WORLD EXPOSITION was first held in Korea

which is meaningful in a way that it took first place in the region of the whole Asia.

In this special session, we are going to hear Welby Altidor’s own journey and story

that inspired stories, music and imagination and finally turned the circus into an art.
