The U.S. Embassy to-day confirmed what many already suspected: the U.S. fiscal-transparency waiver for Nicaragua—and the $3 million in bilateral aid attached to it—will not be renewed this year.

The suspension of the transparency waiver—a more symbolic than finan-cial blow to the Sandini-sta government—now sets the stage for Washington’s decision on the property waiver, and the whopping $1.4 billion in multilateral loans that’s tied to it. Given the tense campaign season in Washington, some ana-lysts say it’s not unlikely the U.S. will cancel the second waiver as well—a move Nicaraguan businessmen have likened to an “atom-ic bomb” dropped on the country’s budding economy.

The House Oversight Committee hearings have put both Eric Holder and the White House on their back heels this morning, further fueling a scandal which has now forced the White House into a rear-guard action.

In a move that is certain to fuel speculation about Barack Obama’s knowledge of the Federal government’s clandestine gun-running operation into the Mexican black market, the President has moved to claim ‘ex-ecutive privilege’ regard-ing any documents relat-ing to the notorious “Op-eration Fast and Furious.”

The case has reached a critical juncture as the House panel has finally moved to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in criminal contempt after he failed to comply with offi-cial Congressional requests to hand over thousands of cables and documents relating to the scandal.

President Obama, try-ing to lay the groundwork for comprehensive im-migration reform early in his presidency, appeared tough, appeasing the oppo-sition as he commenced to deport the undocumented with criminal backgrounds by hundreds of thousands. Yet during his first term he failed to provide the moral leadership and pragmatic imperative for compre-hensive reform, allowing his vociferous opponents to hijack the issue in the name of “national security” and “jobs for Americans.”

The president, in an an-nouncement barely lasting 10 minutes, called America “a nation of laws and a na-tion of immigrants.” Yet he and most other advocates of including the undocu-mented into the American mainstream have lacked the

political courage as well as persuasive powers to spell out the vital importance of immigrants to America.

While four mil l ion newborns are added to the American population annu-ally, the country accepts a million immigrants as new residents. Hundreds of thou-sands more arrive on stu-dent, work and tourist visas, never to be repatriated. The overwhelming majority of immigrants who decide to live in this country perma-nently do so to work and make a better life for them-selves and their families.

Those without higher education, fill grueling, low-paying service, agricultural and manufacturing jobs by hundreds of thousands, generating wealth for the native-born and providing the country with abundant food. Scores of foreign stu-dents and H-1 visa holders who decide to stay, at the expense of brain drain to their own countries, join

Ana Rosa Diaz, a work-er at the Breaux Bridge plant, reports supervisors have forced workers to work up to 24 hours at a time with no overtime pay, locks them in the facility and threatens to beat them with a shovel to stop them from taking breaks. She created a peti-tion on Change.org with the National Guestworker Alli-ance (NGA)--a membership organization that represents thousands of guestwork-ers across the US--asking Walmart to hold CJ’s ac-countable for violating their supplier standards and to help stop the forced labor. SACRAMENTO – A coalition of homeowners, Occupy groups, unions, clergy, community groups and others from through-out California will hold a major rally at the State Capitol June 25 to demand the Governor, the Attorney General and the Legisla-ture declare an immediate foreclosure moratorium.

The rally and March begins at 10 a.m. Mon-day, June 25, on the West S teps o f the Cap i to l .

People are expected to attend from the San Francis-co Bay Area, Los Angeles and Southern California, the North Coast and through-out the Central Valley. The daylong event is designed to convince lawmakers to de-clare a moratorium “to save our homes, our families and our communities.” It will followed by lobbying and stop foreclosure workshops.

SACRAMENTO – Una coalición de dueños de hogares, grupos Occupy, sindicatos, clero, grupos co-munitarios y otras personas de toda California llevarán a cabo una gran mani-festación en el Capitolio del Estado el 25 de junio para exigir al Gobernador, al Fiscal General y la Asam-blea Legislativa que declare una moratoria inmediata a las ejecuciones hipotecarias.

L a m a n i f e s t a c i ó n y marcha comenzará a las 10 am del lunes 25 de junio en las escal-eras oeste del Capitolio.

Se espera que asis-ta gente del Área de la Bahía de San Francisco, Los Ángeles y el sur de California, la Costa Norte y todo el Valle Central. El evento de un día está diseñado para convencer a los legisladores de que declaren una moratoria “para salvar nuestros hog-ares, nuestras familias y nuestras comunidades”. Será seguido por lobby y talleres para detener la ejecución hipotecaria.

“Estamos reuniendo a todas las organizaciones y las personas que trabajan para detener estas ejecu-ciones hipotecarias, y que están molestos por cómo los bancos han entregado cien-tos de miles de millones de dólares en dinero de los con-tribuyentes, y sin embargo siguen sacando a millones

La “pandemia” de las ejecuciones hipotecarias continúa en California, según grupos de bienes raíces:

“We have the capacity to resolve our own institu-tional issues, but it’s going to take some time,” says Ni-caraguan businessman Cés-ar Zamora, vice president of the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA). “In the meantime, the U.S. can’t drop a nuclear bomb on Nicaragua and say, “You pick up the pieces and then you’ll win back the support from U.S. government.”

José Adán Aguerrí, president of COSEP, Ni-caragua’s largest federa-tion of business chambers, agrees. “American authori-ties aren’t going to make Nicaragua more democratic by impoverishing the coun-try even more,” he says. “It’s not the Nicaraguan government that is going to be the big loser from the loss of the waivers.”

ardize Nicaragua’s ability to get much-needed develop-ment and budget assistance loans from multilateral in-stitutions where the U.S. has a strong voice and vote. The possible cancelation of those loans could mean the loss of $1.4 billion in rural electrification, health and infrastructure projects that are fundamental to the gov-ernment’s plans to combat rural poverty over the next five years, Aguerri says.

Human Rights group reports over 400 arbitrary arrests in Cuba last May

The opposition Cuban Commission on Human Rights and National Recon-ciliation reported Thursday that at least 423 arbitrary ar-rests were made for political reasons in May of this year.

In a communiqué re-leased in Havana, the group led by activist Eliz-ardo Sanchez said that the growing trend to make ar-bitary political arrests con-tinues to be “disturbing.”

I n i t s c u s t o m a r y monthly report, the com-mission said that in May, for the first time in 50 years, the Cuban govern-ment offered figures on the

island’s prison population, putting the total at 57,337.

The rights commis-sion, however, estimates the number of inmates at between 65,000 and 70,000.

“The Cuban govern-ment has among the high-est number of prisoners per 100,000 inhabitants in the world,” the commission said, and asked that Cuban jails be opened to inspection by international organiza-tions like the Red Cross.

The Communist Party daily Granma reported in May that Cuba has 57,337 prisoners, of whom more than 31,000 are locked up and almost 26,000 are in “open facilities.”

In the last six months, according to these official figures, 10,129 inmates have been set free for different reasons, including the more than 2,900 who where par-doned last December by the Raul Castro government.

Venezuelen actor Ed-gar Ramírez is set to star in a biopic about Simon Bolivar, a Latin Ameri-can freedom fighter in director Alberto Arvelo Mendoza’s “Libertador”.

Bolivar often called “El Libertador”, along with Jose de San Martin were key in helping Latin America gain independence from Spain during the Spanish Ameri-can wars of the 19th cen-tury. The country of Bolivia is actually named after the leader, originally named the Republic of Bolívar.

R a m í r e z w i l l b e joined onscreen by Ma-ria Valverde, Danny Hus-ton, Iwan Rheon, Gary Lewis, and Imanol Arias.

“Libertador”is a co-production between Ven-ezuela and Spain and will primarily be in Spanish, but will also have some French and English dialogue.

Bolivar was an integral leader and his influence is hard to forget as many towns and cities in Venezu-ela and Colombia have a statue or bust of Bolivar.

The script was penned

by Timothy Sexton and will follow the Venezu-elan leader’s “military campaign to wrestle inde-pendence from Spain and unify Latin America.”

“Libertador” is sched-uled to be released in 2013, but ahead of the film’s re-lease, Ramírez can be seen in “Zero Dark Thirty”, a movie about Osama Bin Laden. He can also been seen in “Wrath of the Ti-tans”, “The Bourne Ulti-matum”, and “Domino”.

Though Spanish was his first language grow-ing up in Caracas, Ven-ezuel, Ramírez speaks five languages: Span-ish, English, French, I tal ian and German.

An art exhibit fea-turing the artwork of Julio Salgado, an undocumented photographer and comics artist that follows the tradi-tion of using art as a tool to fight anti-migrant laws.

With a special appearance by Jose Antonio Vargas un-documented journalist who wrote the TIME Magazine’s article Not Legal Not Leav-ing. Vargas is one of the first undocumented Latino profes-sional who revealed his status publicly, even his picture was on the cover of the magazine.

Vargas is a journalist and the founder of Define Ameri-can, an immigration-aware-ness campaign. He’s written for the New Yorker, Rolling Stone and the Washington Post, where he shared a Pulit-zer Prize for his coverage of the Virginia Tech massacre. He is a proud graduate of Mountain View High School and San Francisco State Uni-versity and lives in New York.

is that the so called Found-ing Fathers and King George were working hand-in-hand to bring the people of Amer-ica to their knees, to install a Central Government over them and to bind them to a debt that could not be paid. First off you have to un-derstand that the UNITED STATES is a corporation and that it existed before the Revolutionary war. See Re-publica v. Sweers 1 Dallas 43. and 28 U.S.C. 3002 (15)

The United States is not a land mass, it is a corporation. Now, you also have to re-alize that King George was not just the King of Eng-land, he was also the King of France. Treaty of Peace * U.S. 8 Statutes at Large 80.

On January 22, 1783 Congress ratified a contract for the repayment of 21 loans that the UNITED STATES had already received dating from February 28, 1778 to July 5, 1782. Now the UNIT-ED STATES Inc. owes the King money which is due January 1, 1788 from King George via France. King George funded both sides of the Revolutionary War.

Now the Articles of Confederation which were declared in force March 1,

1781 States in Article 12: “All bills of credit emitted, monies borrowed, and debts contracted by, or under the authority of Congress, be-fore the assembling of the United States, in pursuance of the present confedera-tion, shall be deemed and considered a charge against the United States, for pay-ment and satisfaction where-of the said United States, and the public faith are hereby solemnly pledged.”

The Articles of Con-federation acknowledge the debt owed to King George. Now after losing the Revolu-tionary War, even though the War was nothing more than a move to turn the people into debtors for the King, the con-quest was not yet complete. Now the loans were coming due and so a meeting was convened in Annapolis, Mary-land, to discuss the economic instability of the country under the Articles of Confederation. Only five States come to the meeting, but there is a call for another meeting to take place in Philadelphia the fol-lowing year with the express purpose of revising the Ar-ticles of Confederation On February 21, 1787 Congress gave approval of the meeting to take place in Philadelphia on May 14, 1787, to revise the Articles of Confederation. Something had to be done about the mounting debt. Little did the people know that the so called founding fathers were going to re-organize the United States because it was Bankrupt.

On September 17, 1787 twelve State delegates ap-prove the Constitution. The States have now become Constitutors. Constitutor: In the civil law, one who, by simple agreement, becomes responsible for the payment of another’s debt. Blacks Law Dictionary 6th Ed. The States were now li-able for the debt owed to the King, but the people of America were not because they were not a party to the Constitution because it was never put to them for a vote.

Even if we are to na-ively take Soros’ word that he was not involved in spurring these global revolutions, despite the evidence to the contrary, he clearly promotes the idea of class warfare with the political left cheering him as a crusader for good.

Conveniently, the Oc-cupy movement has adopted the catchy but brainless “us versus the 1%” mantra as the rallying call for everyone in the 99% to blame their problems on the so-called rich 1%. It sounds a lot like stoking class warfare to me.

However, in order to in-stigate warfare there must be a crisis to cause enough pain to force people to arms, and the sides of good and evil must be defined. Soros does just that in the Daily Beast article where he says people “have reason to be frustrat-ed and angry” at the cost of bailing out the financial system, and that “the world faces one of the most dan-gerous periods of modern history—a period of evil.”

Of course, those state-ments are hard to argue with and calling the ruling class “evil” will resonate with the masses. But again, Soros is clearly in the ruling class 1%, so why would he, like Buffett, pretend they’re outsiders while stoking ha-tred toward themselves?

It seems they are us-ing the crisis and class warfare paradigm to move the masses to support what the global elite have been striving for all along: less competition and more con-solidation of power. “In the crisis period, the impossible becomes possible.” And by impossible he explains the Occupy movement has “put on the agenda issues that the institutional left has failed to put on the agenda for a quarter of a century.”

To fur ther expla in the nature of unintended “evil” in the financial mar-kets, Soros is quoted as saying in the same Daily Beast article “Unrestrained competition can drive peo-ple into actions that they would otherwise regret.”

To many people, this echoes John D. Rock-efeller’s infamous quote

“Competition is a sin.”Rockefeller ran the

monopoly o i l compa-ny Standard Oil, which still exists to this day but goes by different names:

Standard Oil of New Jersey became Esso, later to be renamed Exxon – which became a key part of ExxonMobil, currently the most profitable company in the world -- earning 30 billion, 460 million dollars.

Standard Oil of Cali-fornia became Chevron – currently the third most profitable company in the world at 19 billion, 24 million dollars per year.

Continental Oil Com-pany became Conoco, now a part of ConocoPhillips – currently the sixteenth most profitable company in the world at 11 bil-lion, 358 million dollars.

BP Amoco is a conglom-erate of several Standard Oil splinter companies. Yahoo Finance currently lists BP Amoco’s gross profit at 16 billion, 28 million dollars.

Therefore, four out of the six “supermajors” in the oil industry are direct Rockefeller spinoffs – BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips. (Source)

Competition has been replaced by the appear-ance of competition. And this includes the apparent differences between So-ros and Buffett on the left versus the Koch brothers on the right. Those stuck in the left-right paradigm love to hate them, while they all seek to eliminate genuine competition hid-den behind their respec-tive brands of ideology.

Additionally, Soros pro-motes a single European Treasury with the authority to impose and collect taxes from all member nations as the solution to the Eu-rozone crisis. In America, he agrees with Buffett that the rich should pay more in taxes to strengthen the insti-tution of government, as if it hasn’t given enough power to itself despite its failings.

Furthermore, the notion that taxing the “rich” will solve any of America’s or Europe’s financial problems may be the biggest false par-adigm of all. America offi-cially has a national debt of around $15 Trillion with an-other $26 Trillion in finan-cial bailout costs and double that amount in upcoming liabilities. There is literally

not enough wealth in the world to fix that problem.

What’s more, the real elite will never have to pay taxes as they move their money globally and play on loopholes within the borders. Anyone remember General Electric paying no taxes on $14.2 billion in profits; in fact they got a $3.2 billion tax credit from

Americans? Need I say more about the silliness of this ever working in the cur-rent political environment?

So what does Soros say will be the next immediate battle of this rising class war?

The response to the unrest could be more damaging than the violence itself.

It will be an excuse for cracking down and us-ing strong-arm tactics to maintain law and order, which, carried to an ex-treme, could bring about a repressive political system, a society where individ-ual liberty is much more

constrained, which would be a break with the tradi-tion of the United States.”

Por supuesto que esas declaraciones son difíciles de discutir y llamar a la clase dirigente “mala” resuena en las masas. Pero, de nuevo, Soros claramente pertenece a la clase dominante del 1 por ciento, entonces ¿por qué él, como Buffett, fingen que son de afuera, avivando el odio hacia sí mismos?

Parece que están uti-lizando la crisis y el para-digma de la lucha de clases para mover a las masas a apoyar lo que la elite global ha estado buscando todo el tiempo: menos competen-cia y una mayor consoli-dación del poder. “En el período de crisis, lo impo-sible se hace posible”. Es más, la noción de que cobrar impuestos a los “ricos” va a resolver algu-nos de los problemas finan-cieros de Estados Unidos o Europa puede ser el falso paradigma más grande de todos. Estados Unidos tiene oficialmente una deuda na-cional de alrededor de $ 15 trillones de dólares, con otros $ 26 trillones en los costos de rescate financiero y el doble de esa cantidad en los pasivos futuros. Literal-mente no existe la riqueza suficiente en el mundo para solucionar ese problema.

Es más, la elite real nunca tendrá que pagar impuestos, ya que mueven su dinero a nivel mundial y juegan en las lagunas dentro de las fronteras. ¿Alguien se acuerda de que General

El gobierno de Obama ha hecho un trabajo muy pobre para comunicar es-tos hechos a la mayoría de los norteamericanos. Su fracaso ha dejado el campo libre a los políticos opor-tunistas y depredadores que perpetúan el canto de que los inmigrantes ro-ban trabajos a los nativos.

El presidente Obama tiene posibilidades reales de un segundo mandato. Pero después de la reelec-ción, debe hacer de la in-

migración la pieza central de su administración para alejarse de su más reci-ente y tímido desempeño.

Estados Unidos es de hecho una nación de inmi-grantes. Su líder debiera defender con orgullo esta bandera en vez de asus-tarse, explicar, disculparse y ofrecer “acción diferida”.

Con el Acta DREAM, una vez más en peligro, las palabras de Langston Hughes suenan tan cier-tas como siempre: “Un sueño es un sueño aplaza-do es un sueño negado”.

Soros hace exactamente eso en el artículo en el Daily Beast, donde dice que las perso-nas “tienen razones para estar frustradas y enojadas” por el costo del rescate del

President Obama has a realistic shot at a second term. But upon reelection, he must make immigration the centerpiece of his ad-ministration in a bold de-parture from his most recent and timorous performance.

America is indeed a na-tion of immigrants. Its leader should proudly uphold this banner instead of cowering, explaining, apologizing and offering “deferred action.”

Many of you are aware of our little Avelina’s love of Bomba and have seen how much she has grown as a per-

son and an artist since she first started attending classes at La Peña at the age of two. Unfor-tunately, the funding to support the class at La Peña has dried up and they can’t afford to con-tinue to offer the class. Thanks to the efforts of her dedicated teachers, Shefali Shah and Hector Lugo, we are fighting to keep the class open and to keep this amazing art form alive for kids in the Bay Area.
