2014-2015 Review

This year, as with every year, Oxford Entrepreneurs has expanded it’s offering of opportunities. It’s impossible to list every one, as it would lead to a yearly review the size of a novel, however some selected highlights have been chosen to give a flavour. Additionally some statistics of our annual impact have been included to show a specific breakdown.

A Few Highlights:

Oxford Inspires 7-8th March: This is the 3rd year running our flagship entrepreneurship conference and it was bigger and better than ever. We had over 350 people over the weekend for keynotes, masterclasses, 1 on 1 mentoring sessions and more. With the likes of Lord Bilimoria (founder of Cobra Beer) and Torsten Reil (Founder of Natural Motion sold to Zynga for $527 million) speaking, it was always destined to be a success. www.oxfordinspires.com

OxHack 29-30th November: This was the inaugural hackathon for Oxford Entrepreneurs and we went big with great success. We had over 220 people coming from universities across the country and even international teams from Poland, Spain and the US. Teams hacked for 24 hours straight producing projects ranging from mobile games to deep learning machine vision. www.oxhack.co.uk

Silicon Valley 1-10th April: Another first for OE. We did a 10 day trip to California to meet tech companies, VCs, and start-ups in the valley. We took a specially selected cohort of 20 OE members to meet the likes of Google, Facebook, Dropbox, Zesty, Quid and learn all about the renowned entrepreneurial ecosystem out there.

Isis Innovation Idea Idol: Our long standing flagship business competition this year was yet again a triumph for OE. With approx 210 initial applications feeding through intermediary rounds of workshops to a final 6 teams, it was as competitive as ever. The winners this year BioMe received a prize of £5,000, and have since gone on to raise further funding and progress significantly with their biotech start-up.

Workshops: Our numerous workshops this year have also been well attended throughout the year. With our members taking advantage of our training in the areas of digital marketing, learning to code, crowdfunding, pitching and our How to Start a Start-Up lecture series.

Our Aims:

Inspiration: This is about inspiring people to take on entrepreneurship. To consider it as a serious career path to follow, to jump into their ideas they’ve been developing, and ultimately get excited about the prospect of running their own thing. This is a universal impact to a large number of individuals.

Education: This facet is about equipping those with the skills , knowledge and mindset to be entrepreneurial individuals, whether that be as entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs. This is more specific impact to a more select group of individuals.

Support: Last but not least, support is about helping pre-existing teams and start-ups to take themselves to the next level. This includes finding team members, getting funding, getting exposure, getting advisors and more. This is a unique high impact to a small number of individuals and teams.
