OECD Publishing is responsible for disseminating the content of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) whose mission is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world.
The OECD brings governments together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. We don’t just work with governments, but also with business, labour, academia and other civil society organisations to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We analyse and compare data to predict future trends. We set international standards on all sorts of things, from the safety of chemicals to the quality of cucumbers.
We look, too, at issues that directly affect the lives of ordinary people, like how much they pay in taxes and social security. We compare how different countries’ school systems are readying their young people for modern life, and how different countries’ pension systems will look after their citizens in old age.
This information is published in books, journals and data services. All of them are available via our global knowledge base, OECD iLibrary.
OECD is one of the most innovative publishers in its field and one of the most prolific and reliable sources of comparable economic and social data.
OECD Core Values • Objective:
Our analyses and recommendations are independent and evidence-based.
• Open: We encourage debate and a shared understanding of critical global issues.
• Bold: We dare to challenge conventional wisdom starting with our own.
• Pioneering: We identify and address emerging and long term challenges.
• Ethical: Our credibility is built on trust, integrity and transparency.

OECD is well known for its methodology for measuring support to agriculture in an internationally comparable way. It also conducts policy reviews and analysis on agriculture and fisheries policies issues and carries out an annual medium-term forecasting exercise. The Producer Support Estimate (PSE – a measure of support to agriculture) is a key tool developed by OECD to compare agricultural policy performance across countries and to track progress in policy reform.
Did you know…
…that approximately two-thirds of the world’s poor live in rural areas, where farming is the principal economic activity?

Economics is the discipline on which OECD work is built and economic statistics are the basis for much of OECD’s analysis. It relates to both macroeconomic and structural issues, and in particular their effect on policies. OECD study in this field is based on continued monitoring of events in member countries as well as outside the OECD area and includes regular projections of short and medium-term economic developments.

Combating poverty and social exclusion remain high on the policy agenda in all countries within and outside the OECD. Providing benefits to people in need can help alleviate the worst social and economic hardship, but such policies cannot replace a comprehensive strategy of social development. Social policy work in the OECD covers a wide array of social, education and health policies implemented in a continuously changing environment of socio-demographic factors, labour markets, and technical progress.

Reflecting the globalisation of industrial activities and the intertwined nature of trade dimensions with other policy fields, OECD work on trade has shifted from an emphasis on trade in goods to a more interdisciplinary consideration of trade issues. It helps forestall trade tensions and conflicts that emerge under the pressure of ever-intensifying competition. Trade work also encompasses the issue of export credits, trade facilitation, non-tariff measures and aid for trade.
Did you know…
… that if G20 economies reduced trade barriers by 50%, they could gain a 0.3% to 3.3% rise in jobs for lower-skilled workers and 0.9 to 3.9% for higher-skilled workers, depending on the country?

The International Transport Forum (ITF), also under the OECD’s administrative umbrella, is a think tank for global transport policy, providing evidence-based insights for policy-makers and the global transport community. Its work is underpinned by economic research, statistics collection and policy analysis, often undertaken in collaboration with leading research figures in academia, business and government. The International Transport Forum maintains a range of statistics and indicators on transport, trade, infrastructure investment, road safety and global transport greenhouse gas emissions.

OECD work on this subject area examines how regions, whether urban, rural, crossborder or metropolitan, contribute to national growth. This work focuses onhow a place-based development model, a multi-sector policy approach that harnesses endogenous strengths and assets using networked, multi-level governance mechanisms, is best suited to achieve regional and aggregate growth outcomes. The integrated analysis of historical, cultural and socio-economic factors can explain why and how a given territory can improve its own prospects for growth and development.

OECD has long been an innovator in the production and dissemination of Statistics, making them easy to find, use and cite. The OECD iLibrary Statistics Page provides entry to three types of statistical content accomodating to the profile of the user and the format of information required.
OECD Databases – for experienced users wanting to access the latest available OECD data, to build their own tables and graphs, export the figures into their analytical software. New layout for each database’s homepage, presenting a comprehensive overview of all possible data services. Alongside the list of datasets, related publications are displayed, as well as the premium ready-made tables that are available in a range of formats – XLS, PDF, HTML.
OECD Indicators – The most frequently-requested indicators (currently 160) are now available in the OECD Data Portal data.oecd.org. These indicators are also discoverable from within OECD iLibrary replacing the Key Tables. OECD iLibrary and OECD Data Portal are complementary and inter-connected, providing active links between the two platforms.
OECD Statistical Books – provides the archive version, essential for users wishing to check older numbers, with a back catalogue to 1998. Each table is available in three different formats: WEB, PDF, XLS, READ and ActiveChart.

With the arrival of electronic publishing OECD was one of the first to make all its content accessible online. The PDFs dating back to 1998 represent an important archive for users wishing to check older figures.
Now the presentation on OECD iLibrary offers the data in WEB, PDF, XLS, READ and ActiveChart formats to facilitate discoverability and usability of the data. It has never been easier to find, use and cite OECD statistics.

Integrated Search
OECD iLibrary has a powerful search engine helping users find the right content easily.
• The Quick Search box located at the top of every page gives fast results based on title and abstract metadata for the 154 000 + items contained in the platform.
• Refine your search using a range of filters: search within a search by adding key words, dates, content type, theme or country
• Advanced search enables full text searching and the use of Boolean operators, as well as other parameters: date, content type or language (English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, etc).
In both types of search the results are displayed according to relevance and showing:
• Content Type: Article, Chapter, Table, Graph, Book, Database.
• Formats: PDF, XLS, WEB, DATA, ePUB, READ, Active Chart and Indicators.
Search results can be sorted by date or content type. A history of the most recent searches during the active session is maintained allowing users to jump between and combine results.

Content in Context
On OECD iLibrary every single item, from a complete book down to a table in one of its chapters,
has its own home page, DOI and bibliographical metadata. The contextual navigation allows
users to easily find:
• Publications belonging to a book collection
• Chapters and tables within a title
• In which publication a table, chapter or article was published
• Previous or latest edition of annuals
• Other language versions
• Multilingual summaries in up to 25 different languages, offered in both PDF and EPUB
• Subject-related titles
64
Digital Object Identifier & Citation ToolsThe use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs)
for all published items in OECD iLibrary
allows the use of persistent and independent
links to the described content anywhere on
the internet. Information about a digital object
may change over time, including where to find
it, but its DOI name will not change and thus
always points to its original online presence.
The DOI name has two components, the
prefix and the suffix, which together form the
DOI name. A DOI name may be assigned to
any item of intellectual property, which must
be precisely defined by means of structured
metadata. The DOI name itself remains
persistent through ownership change and
remains unaltered once assigned.
All citation tools in OECD iLibrary feature
the DOI name as the reference link.
The «Cite as» feature allows consistent
referencing of any full-text item on the site.
As an innovative tool, this feature also
includes the citation of dynamic databases
with a link to the original dataset and the
exact time at which it was accessed. The
citation tool is compatible with popular
bibliographical reference software such
as EndNote, RefManager, ProCite and
RefWorks.
66
Usage Statistics & MARC recordsOECD iLibrary also provides subscribers with COUNTER4-compliant usage statistics. Three different reports are available, logging usage statistics for full-text downloads, (meaning a user clicked on a PDF, XLS, WEB or DATA icon) or READ file. The reports will show monthly data for the selected time period. All relevant content titles are listed showing the actual usage with the totals in the first row. Available in TSV format, the page displays the available reports for an administrator to select. In coordination with COUNTER Release 4 standards the reports are:
• JR1 – Journal Report 1 – Number of Successful Full-Text Article requests by month and journal
• JR2 – Journal Report 2 – Access Denied to Full-Text Articles by month, journal and category
• JR5 – Journal Report 5 – Number of Successful Full-Text Article requests by Year-of-Publication and journal
• BR1 – Book Report 1 – Number of Successful Title requests by month and title
• BR2 – Book Report 2 – Number of Successful Section requests by month and title
• BR3 – Book Report 3 – Access Denied to Content items by month, title and category
• BR5 – Book Report 5 – Total Searches by month and title
• PR1 – Platform Report 1 – Total Searches, result clicks and record views by month and platform
MARC records are available to all subscribers using MARC21 XML format according to U.S. Library of Congress specifications. Bibliographic details forbooks are available, covering monographs and serials. OECD iLibrary also provides records for all papers/journals and statistical content. MARC records are generated in English only, and describe the online version of a publication/serial, including other language versions.
