Change is Coming

Improving school food and ending childhood obesity is also a top

priority in the United States. One group working to bring about

change is the Chef Ann Foundation. Its Mission Nutrition program

awards $2,500 to schools to teach kids about fruits and vegetables

and encourage healthy eating. The Samuel Gompers Elementary

School in Madison, Wisconsin, was one of this year’s grant winners.

So far, it’s used the money to hold the first in a series of fruit-and-

vegetable tasting events, “Root For Winter Veggies!”

1930-1940년대 유명한 게이샤의 고백형태로 쓴 소설 .

실화처럼 보이지만 가상인물임

일본에서 어린 시절을 보낸 아서 골든 (Arther Golden) 콜롬비아대 교수가 9년이란 긴 시간을 들여 소설로 완성핚 작품

a quiet room overlooking a garden,

chatting and sipping at our cups of green tea

while we talked about something that had

happened a long while ago, and I said to you,

"That afternoon when I met so-and-so...was the

very best afternoon of my life, and also the very

worst afternoon."

possibly have been both!" Ordinarily I'd have to

laugh at myself and agree with you. But the truth

is that the afternoon when I met Mr. Tanaka Ichiro

seemed so fascinating to me, even the fish smell

on his hands was a kind of perfume.

though it didn't come out well because he couldn't

get the look of shock off his face….

I have somehow become a woman who

yells, and, because I do not want to be a

woman who yells, whose little children

walk around with frozen, watchful faces,

I have taken to lacing on my running shoes

after dinner and going out into the twilit

streets for a walk, leaving the undressing

and sluicing and reading and singing and

tucking in of the boys to my husband, a

man who does not yell.

The neighborhood goes dark as I walk,

and a second neighborhood unrolls atop

the daytime one. We have few street lights,

and those I pass under make my shadow

frolic; it lags behind me, gallops to my feet,

gambols on ahead. The only other

illumination is from the windows in the

houses I pass and the moon that orders

me to look up, look up!
