Bienvenidos a la quinta edición de la revista Ogee! Estamos encantados de anunciar que con esta edición celebramos nuestro primer aniversario. Este acontecimiento no hubiera sido posible sin la contribucion de algunos de los profesionales más importantes del mundo en el arte, el diseño, la arquitectura y la dirección de proyectos.
Siendo esta la edición de primavera, hemos puesto énfasis en temas propios de la temporada; la renovación y remodelación de los hogares. Sugerimos algunas formas economicas para darle un cambio de imagen de tu hogar. Deberiamos de prestar a tencion a los beneficios de los packs integrales de muebles para propiedades con la finalidad del alquiler, y te damos unos trucos fáciles para hacer una limpieza de primavera con el feng shui. Nuestra interiorista de yates, carol scanu, mira hacia atrás y nos cuenta los detalles de uno de sus proyectos favoritos y, como no podia faltar, Edwin Toledo vuelve a compartir su pasión con nosotros por la eco-arquitectura.Para vivir bien la primavera, os damos consejos útiles para disfrutar de los espacios al aire libre con parasoles tipo vela, tratamientos de agua ultra violeta para tu piscina y cómo poder reducir costes de energía con un tanque biodigestor. This being the spring edition, we have placed the emphasis firmly on renewal, regeneration and remodelling; suggesting cost effective ways to pep up a property, we look at the ben-efits of furniture packs in rental properties and even discuss spring cleaning Feng Shui style. Our resident yacht interior de-signer Carol Scanu looks back on one of her favourite projects and Edwin Toledo shares his passion for eco-architecture.
Heading outside… we learn about shade sails, ultra violet wa-ter treatments and how you can cut your energy bills with not much more than some spare land and a bi-digester tank. Last but not least we introduce a new column by gardening experts Dick and Clodagh Handscombe.

Una Limpieza a fondo desde un punto de vista del:
Feng ShuiCon la primavera a la vuelta de la esquina, hemos preguntado al nuestra
maestra en Feng Shui de la revista Ogee, Teri García, qué es lo que deberíamos estar haciendo para regenerar las ondas “Chi” en nuestros
hogares. Sin dudarlo, Teri recomienda una política de “deshacerse de lo viejo” para darle bienvenida a lo nuevo. Hagamos un sitio para las nuevas oportunidades que llegan.
Hace frío en invierno hasta en España y cuando llega la primavera es todo un placer poder abrir las ventanas dejando salir el “Chi” antiguo para poder dar paso a los rayos de sol, al aire fresco y a la energía positiva.
Una buena limpieza a fondo es la manera de ir hacia delante. No tengas dudas y sé implacable a la hora de deshacerte del bagaje inútil o del que ya no necesites. Empieza mejor por la cocina, limpiando a fondo. Lo mismo en las zonas del salón, las habitaciones y los cuartos de baño sin olvidarte de los pasillos y de la zona de la entrada. El desorden puede influenciar tu vida y tus finanzas
Toma nota. Si hay una zona en tu casa que parece que acumula objetos y desorden, puede que ésta cree un impacto o influencia en una parte en concreto de tu vida. Es más, si este lugar está situado en la zona sudoeste de la casa, es posible que también esté afectando a tu economía y a tus finanzas, por lo cual es más que aconsejable que ordenes esta zona para que empiece a fluir el dinero de nuevo. La conexión entre las habitaciones de tu casa y ciertos aspectos de tu vida se explican de forma magistral en el libro de Marcel Amaral, “Creating Luck”- Creando la Suerte - (publicado por Hay House Inc.).

• Utiliza solamente paños nuevos para la limpieza de las superficies y limpia detrás de todos los muebles.
• Lava las cortinas y las fundas de los cojines.• Dale la vuelta a los colchones.• Tira o vacía el agua sucia por el inodoro.• No guardes ropa que no se haya utilizado
en los 5 últimos años (entrégala a una ONG o a una organización caritativa) y arregla toda aquella ropa que lo necesite. Ten un lugar y sitio específico para todo. ¿Quizás en cajas?
• Replantar flores • Remplaza las bombillas. • Intenta limpiar sólo una habitación a la vez. Cuando estas tareas se hayan realizado, notarás que te sientes más ligero, con más frescura y la energía positiva “Chi” estará presente en el ambiente de todo tu hogar.

W ith spring time fast approaching, we asked Ogee Magazine’s very own Feng Shui guru, Teri Garcia what we should be doing to refresh the “chi” flow in our
homes. With no hesitation, Teri recommends a policy of “out with the old and greet the new” in order to make way for new opportunities. Even in Spain it gets cold in winter, so the advent of spring and the prospect of throwing open the windows is a welcome relief, releasing the “stagnant chi” and letting in the sunshine, fresh air and positive energy. A good clear out is the way forward – and be ruthless in getting rid of any unnecessary baggage. Starting in the kitchen, tidy cupboards and give it a deep clean. The same rules apply to the living area, bedrooms and bathrooms, not forgetting the hallway and the oft overlooked area by the front door. Clutter can affect your life and finances
Take note, if there is a particular spot in your home that seems to attracted clutter, it may be impacting on a specific area of your life. What’s more, if the clutter is in a south-easterly section of the house it may also be affecting your finances, so it’s a good idea to clear the clutter in order to get the money moving. The link between the rooms in your home and aspects of your life are explained beautifully by Marcel Amaral in his book Creating Luck (published by Hay House Inc.). Teri’s tips for spring cleaning
• Use a new cloth to wash all surfaces and move every piece of furniture and clean behind
• Wash curtains and cushion covers• Turn mattresses around• Throw dirty water down the toilet• Don’t keep clothing that hasn’t been worn
for more than 5 years (give to charity) but repair clothes that may need some attention, find a place for everything. Storage boxes perhaps?
• Repot plants• Replace light bulbsOnly try to tackle one room at a time! When all of this has been done you will feel much lighter and fresher and your home will be flowing with positive chi. Este año, el invierno ha sido afortunadamente corto para los amantes de la jardinería. Aunque el invierno se acabó oficialmente en el equinoccio de primavera, el 20 de marzo, este año los almendros florecieron antes, y los días más largos se dejaron notar en la explosión de colores y olores de los bulbos en flor, las plantas perennes y los árboles.
Los jardines en España van más allá de sus flores y sus plantas. En los climas nórdicos, salir al jardín está limitado por el frío, mientras que en España, sobre todo en las zonas costeras del sur, los jardines se
disfrutan la mayor parte del año.En términos de horticultura, la primavera es el momento perfecto para evaluar si tu jardín está a tu gusto y si no, estás a tiempo de hacer las modificaciones necesarias. Por ejemplo, ¿Tienes sitios protegidos donde disfrutar del sol invernal sin quedarte helado por el viento? Si tu respuesta es no, deberías pensar la opción de replantar o buscar otros métodos de minimizar el viento.
Del mismo modo, ve pensando en los meses de verano y decide si tienes suficientes sitios con sombra donde protegerte del calor y los vientos tórridos. Si tu respuesta es
negativa, es el momento de plantar más árboles, instalar un toldo o una marquesina, o colocar cortavientos de cristal de estilo holandés entre los arbustos.

Spring in spanish gardensThis year winter was blessedly short for most garden lovers. Although the winter officially ceased on the ‘spring equinox’ on the 20th March, this year the almond trees seemed to blossom earlier, and spring flowering bulbs, perennials and trees responded to the longer days by providing an explosion of colour and scents.
But do recognise that good gardens in Spain are about more than just flowers. In northern climates, time spent outdoors is restricted by the colder weather, whereas here in Spain, particularly on the southern Costas, gardens are enjoyed for much of the year.
In horticultural terms, spring is the perfect time to assess whether your garden is working for you, and if not you have plenty of time to make necessary improvements. For example, do you have enough sheltered spots where you can enjoy the winter sun without being chilled by a winter breeze? If not, you may want to consider replanting or looking at other methods of minimising the wind.
Similarly, think ahead to the summer months and consider whether you have sufficient shady spots to escape from the hot sunshine and siroccos. If not, now is the time to plant more trees, install extra awnings or blinds or Dutch style glass windbreaks sandwiched between shrubs.

Estos son algunos trucos que nos van a ayudar a reducir costes:• Hazunplanycíñeteaél. Cambiar de rumbo a mitad del trabajo, cuando ya se ha gastado
dinero en materiales y mano de obra, es una manera segura de salirse del presupuesto.
• Hazsololoqueseanecesario. Mantén los costes conservando la distribución. Quédate
con lo que se pueda reutilizar. Muchas veces es solo cuestión de cambiar los tiradores y los
pomos para darle un nuevo aire, o a lo mejor es suficiente con cambiar solo las puertas de los
armarios en lugar de todo el armario. Otro truco es hacer más atractivos los electrodomésticos
colocando paneles de acero inoxidable o pintar en blanco los arañazos. Existen en el mercado
varios productos que se aplican sobre las encimeras de cocina para dejarlos como nuevos.
• Sácalepartidoaloquetienes. Piensa en pintar o limpiar cosas viejas, te sorprendería ver lo
que cambian con un poco de atención y mimo y siempre resulta mucho más barato que comprar
cosas nuevas.
• Tonalidadesneutras. Estilos clásicos, colores y acabados neutros, hacen que los muebles
tengan mejor aspecto más tiempo. Las modas están muy bien mientras duran pero al poco
tiempo las cosas se notan desfasadas.
• Limpiezaafondo.Organiza una limpieza a fondo. Da un buen repaso a los armarios,
los cajones, los suelos, las puertas, los tiradores, los electrodomésticos.
• No pases por alto los detalles. Cambia las bombillas, los tiradores y los
interruptores. Hay que cambiar todo lo que esté roto o dañado.
• Hazlotúmismo. Ponte a pintar, limpiar o abrillantar pero cuando se trate de habilidades
como la fontanería, electricidad o poner baldosines, es mejor, y a la larga más barato,
llamar a un profesional.
Si decides renovar la cocina, el cuarto de baño o ambos, le darás un nuevo aire a tu piso y debería ser suficiente para atraer a nuevos inquilianos.

Si has invertido en una propiedad para sacar una rentabilidad en alquiler, tienes que hacer que la misma sea atractiva para los posibles inquilinos.Cada día que pases sin alquilarla estás perdiendo dinero. Un lavado de cara atraerá inquilinos y no tiene porque costar mucho dinero o tiempo si uno se concentra en las zonas que llamen más la atención, como puede ser la cocina.
Es verdad que la cocina puede ser la habitación más cara de un proyecto de remodelación de una casa. Electrodomésticos nuevos, armarios y posiblemente tuberías nuevas, van sumando a la factura. Sin embargo, esto no significa que si uno tiene un presupuesto reducido, no debería ponerse a ello. Hay que planear de forma inteligente y hacer compras sensatas, de esta manera se le puede dar a la cocina un nuevo aire sin necesidad de arruinarse.

• Don’t overlook the details. Replace any light bulbs, door handles and light

Arco Conopial Ogees
Venecia es conocida como la ciudad del amor, un hermoso paisaje lleno de romanticismo, salpicado por canales, ensenadas, puentes y góndolas. Este archipiélago ofrece algo más que agua y puentes, ya que a las incontables góndolas hay que añadir los innumerables arcos conopiales. A no ser que uno sea arquitecto o un aficionado de la historia, lo más probable es que lo de arco conopial no suene para nada. Lo que es un “arco conopial” en cualquier ciudad, en Venecia se conocen como “arco gótico veneciano”.
Para entender la arquitectura de Venecia, es necesario fijarse primero en la topografía de la región que cuenta con 118 islas comunicadas por sus canales. Fueron estos canales los que dictaron la necesidad de construir edificios de poco peso, edificados sobre puntales de madera. Afortunadamente, esta necesidad de minimizar el peso de las estructuras tuvo como resultado el carácter elegante y etéreo de la arquitectura veneciana. El resultado final es una armónica mezcla de edificios bizantinos, neoclásicos, barrocos, renacentistas y góticos; es en estos
últimos donde se encuentran los arcos conopiales.
¿Qué aspecto tienen estos arcos? El difundido arco de doble curvatura recuerda a la sección cruzada de una cebolla y se cree que fueron introducidos en Italia por los otomanos. No hay duda de la influencia de oriente en la fluidez del diseño de las ventanas arqueadas; como muestra el Ca’d’Oro, uno de los palacios góticos más famosos de Venecia que se asoma al Gran Canal en el distrito de Cannaregio.
La Basílica de San Marcos y el vecino Palacio del Dogo, situados en la Plaza de San Marcos, son dos edificios de visita obligada cuando se viaja a Venecia y claros ejemplos del uso de arcos conopiales. Como anécdota, hay que explicar que la basílica adquirió los arcos durante una renovación para parecerse más a su ilustre vecino.
Con o sin arcos góticos, esta elegante y sorprendente ciudad del romance inspira, al que la visita, un amor profundo por la arquitectura.

Most people know Venice as the city of love, a beautiful landscape of picturesque waterways, inlets, bridges and gondolas, but there is more to this romantic archi-pelago than just water and bridges. Not only is it awash with gondolas, it’s virtu-ally inundated with Ogees. Unless an ar-chitect or history buff, one can be forgiv-en for this oversight, as what is an “Ogee” in one city, is in fact a “Venetian Gothic arch” when in Venice.
In order to understand the architecture in Venice it’s necessary to take a look at the region’s topography, comprising
118 islands and interconnecting canals, which dictated the need for light weight buildings constructed on wooden struts above the water. Fortuitously, the need to minimise the weight of the structures determined the lightness of touch and el-egant character of Venetian architecture. This has resulted in a spectacular mish-mash of byzantine, neoclassic, baroque, renaissance and Venetian gothic build-ings ... which of course is where we find the “Ogees”.
So what exactly do these arches look like? The ubiquitous double-curved arch is reminiscent of a halved onion and it is believed to have been brought to Italy
courtesy of the Ottomans. There is no mistak-ing the Eastern influence in the fluidity on the wonderful arched windows, as illustrated on the Ca’d’Oro, one of the most famous Gothic palaces in Venice, overlooking the Grand Ca-nal in the Cannaregio district.
St. Mark’s Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) and the adjacent Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Du-cale) (in St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) are two other famous landmarks that display some delightful examples of the Ogee, even though the basilica acquired the Ogees al-most as an afterthought during renovations, to make it look more like its grander neigh-bour.

Como parte de nuestra serie especializada en el mundo de los yates de lujo, y en concreto en el equipamiento y remodelación de estos magníficos barcos, Carol Scanu, propietaria y consejera delegada del laureado Studio Scanu en Viareggio (Italia) rememora uno de sus proyectos favoritos, la remodelación del Mystic W.
Devolver un barco a su antiguo esplendor es uno de los trabajos que más se disfrutan en el diseño de interiores de un yate. El proyecto puede ser tan sencillo como instalar una moqueta y cortinas nuevas o mucho más complejo como hacer una transformación total. Uno de este tipo de proyectos fue la remodelación del Mystic W, un yate de 38 metros y 20 años de antigüedad que había caído en el olvido. El yate había estado anclado en puerto los últimos 10 años y se encontraba en un estado de abandono total.
Con un poco de visión de futuro y a pesar del mal estado del navío, se podía intuir que tras una reforma completa de la parte técnica y una remodelación exhaustiva, se devolvería al Mystic W a sus días de gloria pero con un toque de modernidad. Aprovechamos la oportunidad para cambiar la distribución y diseñar un interior elegante y cómodo según las directrices dadas por el propietario.
Estilo etéreoTeniendo siempre en cuenta el estilo, el confort y el espacio, escogimos que el color de la madera de teka fuera más claro de lo habitual aplicando una cera en lugar de la laca que es más oscura. Esta opción de suelo combinada con una
pintura satinada color crema, creó un ambiente cálido y lujoso que se llevó a todas las habitaciones del barco.En los baños se utilizó mármol azul palisandro para las encimeras. El mismo estilo se empleó con la tapicería y los cojines usando telas de categoría en tonos verdes y azules.
Armarios y demás mueblesEl constante problema de diseñar sitios para guardar cosas en espacios pequeños se solventó con la creación de dos vestidores y muchas estanterías para libros. El reto más difícil fue la cubierta interior que normalmente es plana y está separada del exterior. Pero en el caso de este barco era continuada lo que suponía un descenso de 14cm desde popa a las puertas del salón en proa. Solucionamos el problema calculando la flotación final e hicimos el diseño según esos parámetros, compensando las bases y las patas de los muebles lo cual dio un resultado perfecto.
Placer y beneficioFue un placer trabajar en un proyecto tan interesante y exigente, tan lleno de encanto y objetos a medida como los paneles de cristal grabado de los baños o la ropa de cama bordada con diseños de ballenas.
La mujer del propietario compartía mi pasión por el barco y creo que años más tarde, aunque la venta del yate produjo un considerable beneficio, aún no ha perdonado a su marido por haberlo vendido.

As part of our series covering the special-ised world of luxury yachts, in particular the furnishing and refitting of these ma-jestic vessels, Carol Scanu, owner and CEO of the award winning Studio Scanu in Viareggio (Italy), looks back on one of her favourite refit projects – the Mystic W.
Restoring an existing vessel to its former glory is one of the most enjoyable aspects of yacht design. A refit can be as simple as fitting new curtains and carpets or a much more complicated intervention. One such project was the refit of Mystic W, a neglected 20 year, old 38m motor yacht which had spent the last 10 years in port.
Looking beyond the neglect, we could see that with a complete overhall of her tech-nical systems and an intensive restyle, Mystic W would be restored to her former glory, with a modern twist. We took the opportunity to update the layout and de-sign, to produce an elegant comfortable interior in accordance with the owner’s requests.
A lightness of touchWith style, comfort and space in mind we chose to keep the teak wood light by using a wax instead of the usual darker lacquer. And when combined with creamy satin it created a warm ambiance which we replicated in the tones and palette
throughout the cabins and bathrooms. The theme continued with the upholstery, using soft fabrics in green and blue tones.
What to do about storageThe age old problem of storage in a confined space was solved by find-ing room for two walk-in wardrobes, plus plenty of bookcases. The big-gest challenge was the interior deck which is normally flat but in this case there was a 14cm slope from the aft to the forward doors of the saloon. We masked the problem by calculating the final flotation and designed around it, compensating the bases and legs of the furniture and baseboards. Which worked perfectly.
Pleasure and profitIt was a pleasure the work on such an interesting project, with bags of charm and custom fittings, such as individual etched glass panels in each bathroom and bespoke linen embroidered with whales.
The client’s wife shared my affection for the boat, and even now several years later she has yet to forgive him for selling.. even though it realised an enormous profit.

El concepto de pack integral de muebles no es un concepto nuevo, así que igual no se le puede llamar tendencia. Es fácil entender por qué esta tierra ha enamorado a
tantos...
‘Rosaura’ es una joya única situada en la hermosa localidad de Romanyà de la Selva, en El Baix Empordà, que pertenece al municipio de Santa Cristina d’Aro en Girona. A pocos minutos en coche de las playas de Platja d’Aro en la Costa Brava, la casa está enclavada en un parque nacional, en el perímetro de una reserva de la biosfera famosa por sus formaciones rocosas surgidas hace millones de años.
La zona ofrece tranquilidad, paz y vistas espectaculares y por si esto fuera poco, presume de una herencia literaria de gran riqueza. La famosa novelista catalana Mercè Rodoreda*, quien viviera años en el exilio parisino, fue una de los muchos artistas que cayeron bajo el influjo de la región; se dice que algunas de sus mejores obras fueron redactadas en la época en la que vivió en Romanyà y que este lugar mágico fue fuente de inspiración de las mismas.

Hoy en día las ciudades utilizan enormes cantidades de energía, aproximadamente la mitad de la producción de energía
en el mundo se consume solo para mantenerlas en marcha. No hace falta ser un genio para ver que la situación es insostenible a largo plazo.
Una solución sería la de comenzar a trabajar en la creación de lo que llaman “ciudades inteligentes”. Aunque las medidas para controlar y ahorrar en luz, aire acondicionados y seguridad no es una solución porque también necesitan energía para funcionar correctamente. Si un edificio pudiera producir energía, seguramente podría ser conectado a una red de distribución, y a su vez podría sostener edificios vecinos, cargar coches eléctricos o hasta incluso venderse.
Esta posibilidad no es más que una ilusión, por ahora. Sin embargo, la conversión de ciudades europeas “inteligentes” para producir y proporcionar energía a ciudades enteras sería una verdadera transformación social y podría servir de ayuda para salir de la crisis financiera. El

proyecto utilizaría todos los sectores de las industrias de tecnología y de energía, y además crearía nuevas oportunidades de negocio.
Para avanzar hacia estos centros urbanos ecológicos, el Consejo Europeo se ha comprometido a reducir las emisiones CO2 en Europa en un 20% para el año 2020, basándose en datos del año 1990. El consumo de energía se disminuirá con un 20% y otros 20% de energía será proporcionada por fuentes de energía renovables.
Con esta iniciativa en mente, en 2009 la Comunidad Europea presentó la “Tarjeta Verde”. Una tarjeta destinada a promover el uso de tecnologías informáticas para fomentar el crecimiento sostenible en la UE. Hasta la fecha hay 14 alcaldías europeas registradas, de los cuales tres son españolas; Zaragoza, Murcia y Málaga.
Las ciudades inteligentes pueden ser consideradas un sueño futurístico, es prometedor que los políticos ya están buscando soluciones a un problema creciente.

Today’s cities use an enormous amount of energy, approxi-mately half of the power pro-duction in the world is eaten up just keeping them function-
ing. You don’t have to be a genius to see that the situation is untenable in the long term.
One answer would be to start working to-wards creating “smart” cities. The sensi-ble solution would be to take a good hard look at the buildings. Although impor-tant, sophisticated facilities and energy saving measures used to control light-ing, air conditioning and security, don’t provide the solution – energy needs to be generated too. If a building can pro-duce energy, surely it could be hooked up to a distribution network, which could power the neighbouring buildings, elec-tric cars or maybe even sold.
Of course, at the moment this is noth-ing more than a pipedream. However, converting Europe’s cities into “smart” energy producing cities would be a real social transformation and would help

In order to work towards more ecologi-cal urban centres, the European Council has pledged that by 2020, CO2 emis-sions in Europe will be reduced by 20% on the 1990 levels, 20% less energy will be consumed and that 20% of the en-ergy used will be provided by renewable energy.
With a nod in the right direction, in 2009 the European Community introduced the “Green Card” initiative, designed to pro-mote the use of Information Technology for Sustainable Growth throughout the EU. To date, fourteen European mayors including Zaragoza, Murcia and Malaga have signed up.
Smart cities may still be a dream to be realised in the future, but at least the politicians are looking at the problem today.

Un estilo histórico antiguo lleno de comodidadEn el mundo actual en el que abunda la monotonía de las cadenas hoteleras y los bloques de apartamentos uniformes, es un gusto encontrarnos con un hotel con personalidad propia, tanto en su arquitectura como en su historia, sin perder por ello la modernidad y la calidad de sus instalaciones. Eso es lo que uno experimenta al visitar el hotel Palacio de Mengíbar, en la provincia de Jaén.
Esta provincia andaluza es el marco perfecto para este increíble lugar, rico en herencia histórica salpicado de pueblos como Mengíbar, (Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco), cuyo origen se remonta al siglo XV. La arquitectura del hotel integra de forma magistral las tendencias históricas y modernas. Cada una de las 56 habitaciones está decorada de forma individual con muebles antiguos. Para los gastrónomos, el hotel ofrece dos restaurantes de categoría, uno de ellos se encuentra emplazado donde en su tiempo estuvieran las caballerizas y el segundo en el edifico nuevo. El “English Lounge” es el lugar ideal para relajarse contemplando el fuego mientras se toma esa última copa antes de ir a dormir.
Como en cualquier otro hotel boutique, el ambiente, el estilo y el servicio son fundamentales. Este cuidado por el detalle, se mantiene a la hora de acoger eventos de empresa que pueden celebrarse en cualquiera de los salones equipados con la última tecnología. No podemos dejar de mencionar el centro de salud y spa y las termas romanas donde uno puede relajarse y dedicarse a uno mismo mientras se contempla el maravilloso entorno.

No es nada nuevo cuando buscas un respiro para refugiarte del sol. En los tiempos de las cavernas, los trogloditas crearon parasoles con pieles de animales y más tarde los egipcios utilizaron tiras de tela. En los años 50 según las típicas postales humorísticas de la época, los británicos se colocaban en la cabeza, a modo de protección, un pañuelo con un nudo cogido en cada esquina. La verdad es que no tiene nada de malo protegerse del sol, en particular si vives en un país de mucho calor y sol, donde las temperaturas al medio día pueden llegar a ser infernales.
Pensándolo bien, quizás los que iban mejor encaminados fueron los egipcios, aunque con anterioridad fueron los griegos y los romanos que crearon las primeros parasoles tipo vela. Al ser de un país cálido y soleado, los griegos utilizaron estos parasoles en las playas y puertos, y los romanos lo utilizaban para crear sombras mientras disfrutaban del espectáculo viendo como los gladiadores luchaban.Echando la vista atrás hacia la década de los 90, las sombrillas tipo vela modernas se desarrollaron en Australia y se convirtieron
en lo más “chic”, ya que la tela se fabricó para que pudiera “respirar” y a la vez bloquear el 95 por ciento de los dañinos rayos UV. Hoy en día se pueden encontrar en cualquier lugar del planeta. Son muy populares no sólo por la seguridad poder de protegernos de los rayos solares sino por sus diseños desenfadados, colores, tamaños y formas. Cualquier área donde estén presentes las sombrillas tipo vela, serán zonas “refrescantes” en todos los sentidos. También, al estar sujetas no cimbrean cuando hace viento, evitando de esta forma el desgaste de la tela y alargando su vida útil hasta diez años.
Da igual el diseño estándar o a medida, cuadradas o triangulares, etc. Son sombrillas con estilo propio y son perfectas para piscinas, parques infantiles, patios, jardines e incluso para parkings. La verdad es que son ideales para cualquier lugar que necesite sombra.

There’s nothing new about seeking a respite from the sunshine, cavemen fashioned shades out of animal hides, ancient Egyptians used strips of cloth, and if 1950s novelty postcards are to be believed, British men took refuge under knotted handkerchiefs placed jauntily on their heads. But seriously, staying safe in the sunshine, especially if you live in a hot country where the midday tempera-ture can be brutal, is far from a frivolous matter.
On reflection, the Egyptians were on the right track but it was really the ancient Greeks and Romans who were responsi-ble for the first sail shades. Hailing from a warm climate, Greek sailors are said to have used sails on the beach or in port, and the Romans adopted them to provide shade whilst watching gladiators fight for the lives.
