On August 2, during a ceremony held at the
São Paulo City Chamber, the Managing Director
of Odebrecht S.A., Marcelo Odebrecht, received
the Title of “São Paulo Citizen,” granted through
a proposition by City Council Member Francisco
Chagas.
Some 200 people attended the ceremony,
including family members, members of the
Odebrecht S.A. Board of Directors, entrepreneurial
leaders, directors and Members of the
Organization’s companies, clients and authorities.
“It is hard to find a large project or a study in which
Odebrecht has not participated in our country,”
said São Paulo Mayor Gilberto Kassab during the
opening event.
City Council Member Francisco Chagas
indicated the Organization’s contributions to the
projects completed in the municipality, such as the
subway lines, tunnels, highways, bridges, buildings,
channeling of streams, construction of water and
sewage treatment plants and the railroad system,
among others. He also highlighted the installation
of the Corinthians Arena in the neighborhood of
Itaquera, which has already generated more than
6,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. “We
need to celebrate those who are doing what’s
best for the city of São Paulo,” said Chagas. “The
municipality needs to be able to count on these
initiatives and leadership capacity such as that
displayed by Marcelo Odebrecht,” he said.
Marcelo Odebrecht emphasized that he views
the receipt of the Title of São Paulo Citizen as an
expression of distinction from the community,
through the City Chamber representatives, who
have helped make São Paulo a better city. “This
was and continues to be the purpose of our
Organization,” he explained. “That is why I am
receiving this tribute on behalf of all those people
who participated and integrate our businesses
since we arrived here”, he said.

In August, Odebrecht América Latina
won the rights to a new contract in Ecuador
to complete the work to prepare the
installation area of the Pacífico Refinery
Project, located in the city of Manta,
Province of Manabí.
With the amount of US$ 230 million and
a 28-month term, the construction work
will be undertaken for the Mixed Capital
Company Refinería del Pacífico RDP CEM,
whose majority shareholder is the state-
owned oil company Petroecuador.
The Pacífico Refinery is the Ecuadorian
government’s most ambitious infrastructure
project. It involves the construction
and assembly of a refinery with a daily
production capacity for 300,000 barrels of
oil derivatives, a high conversion module
for the waste originating from the refining
process for the generation of electric energy
and an additional petrochemical module.
The Ecuador Government estimates that
the total construction project value totals
approximately US$ 12 billion.

On July 23, the Lord of the British Admiralty,
Fleet Admiral Mark Stanhope, visited the
construction work underway as part of the
Submarine and Naval Shipyard and Base
Development Program - Prosub-EBN, developed
by Odebrecht in Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro. The
visit was one of the sites toured as part of
the commander’s official visit to Brazil, which
included several different Brazilian Navy
installations.
Accompanied by the General Commander
of the Brazilian Navy, Fleet Admiral Moura Neto,
by the General Coordinator of PROSUB, Fleet
Admiral Fragelli, Rear Admiral Alan Arthou and
by the Managing Director of Odebrecht, Fábio
Gandolfo, the English Navy Commander watched
a presentation and toured the construction of
the Metal Structure Manufacturing Unit (UFEM)
and the Shipyard.
At the end of the visit, Mark Stanhope
emphasized that the complexity of nuclear-
propelled submarine development represents
a major challenge for the country. According
to Stanhope, the progress made in the Naval
Shipyard and Base indicates that Brazil has
the capacity to overcome it: “The amplitude of
knowledge necessary to carry out the project
that you are developing now simply ‘leaves me
breathless,’” he said.
Stanhope also congratulated the country
for its decision to invest in the national defense
strategy. “For a nation like Brazil, which will have
an enormous global influence 20 years from
now, undertaking a program to build a nuclear
submarine is exactly what you should be doing,”
he said.

improvements in the region’s
other neighborhoods. Some
17,000 people will be benefitted,
15,000 of which are Angolans,
Angolan Authorities Tour Odebrecht Projectdistributed throughout
approximately 4,000 properties.
The work began in 2008 with

completed in October of this year.
“We can already see that
the residents’ quality of life has
made a qualitative leap,” said
Antonio Cunha, a resident of
the neighborhood for more
than 40 years and President
of the Mártires de Kifangondo
Neighborhood Committee.
“Some streets that flooded
due to irregular water piping

FOZ DO BRASIL: YPS VISIT
OPERATION IN LIMEIRA
On July 24-25, Foz do
Brasil held the second on-
site meeting for its Young
Partner Introduction to Culture
Program, called Sharing
Learning I. The event took
place in Itupeva, a city in rural
São Paulo, and included the
presence of 30 Foz YPs from
the 2012 group, and 14 YPs
from Odebrecht S.A., who took
advantage of the opportunity
to learn more about one of the
Organization’s environmental
engineering businesses.
On the first day of the event,
the focus was on consolidating
the understanding of the
Odebrecht Entrepreneurial
Technology (TEO) Principles
and Concepts and the
Characteristics of the Odebrecht
Partner. The YPs had studied the
topic at a distance through the
Introduction to Culture Portal.
For Marina Gama, responsible
for the Young Partner Program
at Foz, this was an important
stage for integrating the youth
with the Organization’s Culture.
“It is the moment at which
they most identify the values
aligned with the Culture and
realize that TEO is, in fact, within
people themselves,” said Gama.
“Besides this, it represents a
unique opportunity to meet
with colleagues and exchange
the different experience of each,
in his or her own environment,
and better understand the
business in which they work,”
she said.
The next stage in the Foz program will take place in November of this year in Rio de Janeiro, and will cover the Competencies of the Odebrecht Partner
29odebrechtnoticias.com.br / no 289 / august 2012
On the following day, the
Members visited the first Foz do
Brasil concession in Limeira, and
learned more about the water
and sewage, industrial and
waste treatment operation. The
youth were also able to get an
up-close look at the processes
that guarantee the water supply
and sewage treatment in the
municipality, which currently
has universalized services that
have received the approval of
95% of the covered population.
YP Júlia Machado de
Menezes, Environmental
Engineer, states that the
meeting made her even more
motivated and prepared for
new challenges. “The Young
Partner Program has been
very important and has
complemented my career,
since it is focused on personal
and professional development
with the Organization’s
characteristics, values and
concepts,” said Menezes.
“During the meetings, we
learn about different areas,
we have the opportunity to
find out about the careers
of people who began as YPs
and who currently occupy
important positions within the
Organization,” she said.
START OF PROGRAM AT
OOG
From July 9-13, Odebrecht
Oil and Gas (OOG)
promoted the first module
of the OOG Youth Program,
which maintains the same
conceptual base as the Young
Builder Program, associated
with the Engineering and
Construction business. The
goal was to help participants
understand how to complete
an Entrepreneurial Task,
which involves the winning
over and Satisfaction of the
Client.
The 30 JPs from 2012
gathered in Itaipava, Rio de
Janeiro, and participated
in lectures and activities
developed by the program
advisors. The opening involved
the participation of Roberto
Ramos, Entrepreneurial Leader,
who shared the scenario of
the Oil and Gas market, the
company’s strategic positioning
and the prospecting of new
businesses and opportunities.
To complement the
knowledge acquired, all of the
Managing Directors of OOG
presented cases that were
focused on the challenges faced
during the project bidding phase.
The Members also participated
in a chat with Renato Baiardi,
member of the Odebrecht
S.A. Board of Directors, about
leadership, professional
experiences and TEO.
Before the onsite meeting,
the youth prepared for three
months by completing tasks
online.
The second module, which
will address Client Satisfaction,
will occur on the week of

November 19, with the same
format of distance activities
followed by a new meeting.
According to Leila Brito,
responsible for the OOG Youth
Program, the program concept
involved identifying the leaders
that would serve as advisors,
producing content and
mobilizing Members. “For the
participants, the opportunity
to be part of the OOG Youth
is unique, since the content
addressed helps them develop
their career and specific
capacities,” explained Brito.
The presence of the leaders
was the main highlight for
the youth. For Bruno Kato,
from the Drilling Business
Unit, the leaders’ participation
allowed for more transparent
contact with the company’s
businesses. “The orientations
about the first stage of the
Entrepreneurial Task changed
my vision of OOG, making me
more ambitious,” said Kato.
Adriana Lontra, from the Legal
area of OD, emphasized that
the presentations increased
her understanding and
contribution to the process
of winning over the client,
while at the same time

of the service and group on
the Transnordestina Railroad
participated in the 1st edition of
the “Leader on the Rails” Project.
With the initiative of
Odebrecht Infraestrutura, the
Members had the opportunity
to improve their technical and
management-related knowledge.
Divided into four modules, the 32
hours of training were completed
on August 4.
During the first meeting,
the 24 workers learned about
the Organization’s history and
the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial
Technology (TEO), as well as
the specific characteristics of
Transnordestina. The second
module was focused on
legal issues such as Civil and
Criminal Liabilities and Labor
Law, with debates on working
hours, Members’ duties and
obligations, profit sharing and
the relationship with trade
union entities. Participants also
received information on the
PréVer (“Prevent”) Program, which
is focused on preventing work-
related accidents.
In the last two modules,
Members focus on topics such
as planning, control, costs and
service quality. The lecture
“Leadership and Motivation”
promoted reflections on
inter-personal relationships
and efficient communication
between the Leader and the
Team Member.

The experiences in the areas
of sanitation in the municipalities
of Limeira, Santa Gertrudes and
Rio Claro, located in rural São
Paulo, were presented by Foz do
Brasil during the 1st Symposium
of PCJ Committees, held between
July 30 and August 3 in the city
of São Pedro. The event included
the presence of State Governor
Geraldo Alckmin.
Under the central theme
“Water Management: Building
a Sustainable Future,” the idea
behind the initiative was to
debate the topics related to the
management of water resources in
the PCJ Basins (from the Piracicaba,
Capivari and Jundiaí Rivers), as
well as those from the rest of the
country and planet, including
topics discussed during the global
UN conference, Rio+20, and at
other environmental forums.
One of the examples presented
was the city of Limeira, a national
reference with the lowest water
loss rate in Brazil, which is below
16% (the national average is 40%).
The municipality was the first in
the country to have its public water
and sewage services operated
by private initiative, starting
in 1995, and which achieved
universalization last year – when all
of the sewage generated began to
be sent for treatment.
For Sandro Stroiek, Director

> FAST NEWS - SUSTAINABILITY
The Foz units in Limeira, Santa Gertrudes and Rio Claro, which are part of the Piracicaba River Basin, were presented at a booth located in the exhibit space
of Foz do Brasil, the path toward
universalization involves a
partnership between the public and
private sectors: “This allows for the
investments that the sanitation sector
lacks,” said Stroiek. In May of this
year, with the inauguration of a new
Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), the
municipality of Santa Gertrudes also
achieved the capacity to treat 100%
of the collected sewage. The start of
operations allowed the city to stop
releasing its untreated sewage into
the Ribeirão Claro, helping revitalize
the Corumbataí River Watershed.

the first Public-Private Partnership

inauguration of the Jardim Conduta

higher than 55%.

In order to promote raise
the environmental awareness
of the population, in August of
this year, the Fonte Nova Arena,
currently under construction in
the city of Salvador, launched
two used cooking oil collection
points. The Eco-Points – part of
the development’s environmental
responsibility project – will make
it possible to recycle the material,
transforming it into biodiesel,
candles and soap.
The sites, which are located at
the construction site, are easily
accessible by the population. One
is located next to the Visitation
Center, at the address Rua Anfrísia
Santiago (former VIP Box), and
another point is located at the
Tororó Dike gatehouse, in front
of the 2014 World Cup Clock.
“These programs promote simple
attitudes that bring significant
environmental results,” said
Frederico Bastos Gonçalves,
Sustainability Manager for the
Fonte Nova Arena. “It is as easy
as storing the used cooking oil
in well-sealed PET bottles and
dropping it off at the Eco-Points,”
he said.
The project’s goal is to
Fonte Nova Arena Launches Eco-Point: Cooking Oil Collection and Recycling
The program receives the support of the company RENOVE and will benefit the municipal schools Maria Quitéria and Ruy de Lima Maltez by donating the soap produced from the recycling of all the collected material
orient the population as to the
importance of conscious disposal,
since cooking oil is a polluting
material. Any recycled amount
represents an environmental gain:
surveys indicate that just one liter
of cooking oil can pollute some
20,000 liters of water. In lakes and
rivers, the substance negatively
affects oxygenation, killing plants
and fish. According to the Center
for Integrated Studies on the
Environment and Climate Change
at the Federal University of Rio de
Janeiro (UFRJ), the decomposition
of used cooking oil emits
methane, one of the main gases
that causes the greenhouse effect,
which in turn is responsible for
global warming.
“Within the concept of ‘green’
economy, business activities
such as industry, commerce
and civil construction cease
from being seen as causing
environmental damage and are
rather recognized as part of the
solution,” said Gonçalves. “The
definition is aligned with one
of the pillars of the Fonte Nova
Arena, which is environmental
responsibility,” he said,
reminding that 100% of the
concrete from the former Fonte
Nova was fully re-used.

Combining reuse,
preservation and research, the
Santo Antônio Civil Consortium
(CSAC) Environment sector
developed a new product:
a biodegradable degreaser
for washing trucks and
equipment on the Washing
and Lubrication Ramp.
In addition to replacing
industrialized products and
facilitating the reuse of the
water that is originally used
in the washing process, the
degreaser does not harm the
environment. The product
cleans efficiently and uses
animal-based residual oil that
originates from the project’s
Central Kitchen furnaces.
According to Nelson
Alves, Environment Manager,
achieving the final version of
the degreaser represented a
challenge, since animal oil is
more difficult to handle. “The
process involved research
and several different tests,”
explained Alves. “With the
lower cost compared to
the industrialized product,
this product can be applied
in other sectors of the
construction site and later
taken to other construction
projects,” he said.
The experiments were
conducted in partnership
with the technical team from
Faro College. The production,
which requires only a simple
structure, will take place at the
construction site itself with
the recipients available at the
development. The amount of
animal oil in stock is sufficient
for producing the degreaser for
more than four months.
Santo Antônio HPP Develops Biodegradable Product
The Santo Antônio HPP Washing and Lubrication Ramp currently uses 2,400 liters of degreaser per month
