Traditional Game and Play

Many of the Traditional Gamhas been created in daily life by ordinary people and handed down from person to person for many years. It is exactly vigorous popular culture The Traditional game reflects the climate and the land form of the country when we consider the material of the toy and the dialect in children's song Therefore, Play of a child is not the same in each and every country. It reflects original culture of the country.

It would be a good material for students to study about different culture in other countries.

I have sort of mysterious feeling that such old games are still played by the children in the same way and rules now.

We found some educational effectiveness which are: 1. Children foster a sense of unity so that they always play it in a team. They also master how to get on in life in participating the activity in the groups.

2. Most of the Traditional Games are the nature plays so that Children become familiar to the nature. It is good for them to maintain their mental and physical health

I would like to show my deep gratitude to Ms. Cherianne Guda, Lisa Parisi, Ms Jessica Crespo, Ms.Daniela St. Clair and their students for their contribution to our project.

Group A (Ryo Todo, Yurina Har, Ruka Ogawa, Natsumi Yatuska)

Topic: “Karuta”, “Koma”,”Take-Tonbo(Bamboo plane)”

Karuta is a Japanese card game. The word karuta(かるた) is from the Portuguese word "carta" (card).

The basic idea of any karuta game is to be able to quickly determine which card out of an array of cards is required and then to grab the card before it is grabbed by an opponent. There are various types of cards which can be used to play karuta. It is also possible to play this game using two standard decks of playing cards.

There are two kinds of cards used in karuta. One kind is yomifuda (読札) or "reading cards", and the other is torifuda (取り札) or "grabbing cards." As they were denoted, the words in the yomifuda are read and players will have to find its associated torifuda before anybody else does.

The research of the students in other schools

   Jessica Crespo’s students

Some of the students responses were: baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, hockey, ice skating and skiing. roller-skating, bingo, baseball, and football. I decided to use a group of three boys for this lesson.

Baseball:

-Yankees (they're a professional New York team)      -Mets (another New York team)      -9 players (for each team) - (two teams play)           -a pitcher (they throw the ball for the other team to hit)           -a catcher (to catch the ball the pitcher throws)           -3 basemen (first, second, and third)           -Short stop (he stand in between second base and third base)           -3 outfielders (right, left, and center field)      -baseball (it's about 3 inches in diameter)      -gloves (to catch the ball)      -bats (to hit the ball)      -bases (4 of them: first, second, third, and home plate)      -the field is in the shape of a diamond      -helmets (for safety)      -the catcher wears a lot of safety equipment (helmet, shin guards, face mask, chest protector)      -cletes (special shoes with tips on the bottom)      -3 strikes (if the pitcher throws a good ball across the plate for the hitter and the hitter doesn't swing, it's a strike.

Page 6: one of the typical ones of the play in the Web viewPick a flower (Thick one is fine ... Origami (折り紙 or 折紙 ... The word literally means "paper folding" in Japanese and refers

OR If the hitter swings and misses that's also a strike.)      -4 balls (these are throws by the pitcher that aren't good enough for the hitter to swing at.)      -3 outs (if someone catches the ball that the hitter hits that is an out. OR If the hitter was able to get on a base and is running toward another base when it's someone else's turn and the baseman has the ball to tag him or step on the base he's out.)      -9 innings (each team gets a turn to be up at bat in each inning.)      -umpires (these are the men that decide who's out or safe at a base. There's also an umpire standing behind homeplate to decide if the ball being thrown by the pitcher is a stike or a ball.)

Hide and seek and red light green light. The students love both of those outdoor games. "Dice" sounds like something adults might play in Las Vegas, but in Japan we call it “Sugoroku” and both of children and adults enjoy it.

Football(Lisa Parisi’s students)- There are 56 players on each team - A football - A quarterback - A running back - A wide receiver - A tight end - Offensive lineman - Defensive lineman - Linebackers

Page 7: one of the typical ones of the play in the Web viewPick a flower (Thick one is fine ... Origami (折り紙 or 折紙 ... The word literally means "paper folding" in Japanese and refers

- Defensive back - A punter - A kicker - A touchdown is when the other team gets the football and runs to the other teams side. Each touchdown is worth 6 points. - Each player wears a helmet and their color uniform. To describe how to play we used plastic football players and the students acted out an actual football game on the field we created. Afterwards, The students were asked to verbally give a definition of each position. I used my older children for this task because I teach K-5.

.(Cherianne Guida’s students)

Hide and seek. The idea of the game is for one person to hide their eyes and count to ten. The rest of the people run and hide around the house. When the counter finishes counting they go to look for the people. When he/she finds a person they tag them and say, "your it."

Red light ,Green lightThe play came from US originally, It is often played outside in a street or a game field. The one person says, "Red light, green light 1 2 3" and turns around. The other players run towards him/her. When he/she turns around the children have to stop running. If the person sees you moving you are out.

Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a wonderful hopping game that can be played on a bare patch of ground or on a floorindoors. There are hundreds of variations of the diagram that can be drawn. Use your favorite version to have children play.

Use chalk to draw a hopscotch pattern on the ground or use masking tape on a floor. Create a diagram with 8 sections and number them. Each player has a marker such as a stone, beanbag, bottlecap, shell, button, etc.

The first player stands behind the starting line to toss her or his marker in square 1. Hop over square 1 to square 2 and then continue hopping to square 8, turn around, and hop back again. Pause in square 2 to pick up the marker, hop in square 1, and out. Then continue by tossing the stone in square 2. All hopping is done on one foot unless the hopscotch design is such that two squares are side-by-side. Then two feet can be placed down with one in each square. A player must always hop over any square where a maker has been placed.

A player is out if the marker fails to land in the proper square, the hopper steps on a line, the hopper looses balance when bending over to pick up the marker and puts a second hand or foot down, the hopper goes into a square where a marker is, or if a player puts two feet down in a single box. The player puts the marker in the square where he or she will resume playing on the next turn, and the next player begins.

Sometimes a dome-shaped "rest area" is added on one end of the hopscotch pattern where the player can rest for a second or two before hopping back through.

In Japan, we have a similar play to “Hotpotch” which we call “Ishikeri”(Kick a stone)

Page 9: one of the typical ones of the play in the Web viewPick a flower (Thick one is fine ... Origami (折り紙 or 折紙 ... The word literally means "paper folding" in Japanese and refers

The rule is almost same but the way of drawing the square may be different.

THE PERCHING TAG : outdoor game (by Miriam)

During the game, the children are free to move on the playing area. They must avoid the "leapsa (= tag) to touch them when they are on the ground. When they are in danger to be touched, they must perch on a bench, a box, a tree-stump or other objects on the playing area and cry out 田oco (= perched). The child who is touched before perching becomes "leapsa (= tag).

"KENDAMA" spread over the world. The form of "KENDAMA" to see well in Japan in the place, Hatsukaichi City in Hiroshima, in the Taisho Era was made. Being more attenuate a little than now when coming to Japan, it was to do form being like the candlestick. The person who is called the following of Egusa Hama who lived in Hiroshima Prefecture Kure City in 1918 thought of the present form.

Gomu-tobi( Jump a rubber string)

The number of people:2 people – around 5 people * When it says which it is, it is play of a girl. There was the play for the whole country in all districts in Japan.<A thing to prepare> * When there is not elastic (elastic went through underpants in old days) putting through underpants, we connect rubber bands one by one and do it to rubber having a long<A rule> * At first I select a jumping person as two people having rubber. It will be good by rock, paper, and scissors. At the time of 2, one has rubber and binds one to trees.

* Then it is a start. Two people who had rubber are the head of rubber(As for 2M) * From the low height, a remaining member jumps in turn first. When a member was not able to jump, she will be a relief having rubber. * Height of rubber rises with "knee", "waist", "stomach" from ankle "of a" foot highly in turn, and it is it in "head" last. If it clears this entirely, it is the end.

* Naturally if become high, cannot jump obediently, and seem to be that acrobatic feat when throw on a foot, and jump; jump, and there is. I think that I jump, and there was a name of one in each.

Origami (折り紙 or 折紙 origami "paper folding") is the art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a given result using geometric folds and crease patterns. The word literally means "paper folding" in Japanese and refers to all types of paper folding, even those of non-Japanese origin.

Origami only uses a small number of different folds, but they can be combined in a variety of ways to make intricate designs. In general, these designs begin with a square sheet of paper, whose sides may be different colors, and proceed without cutting the paper. Contrary to most popular belief, traditional Japanese origami, which has been practiced since the Edo era (1603-1867), has often been less strict about these conventions, sometimes cutting the paper during the creation of the design (Kirigami 切り紙) or starting with a rectangular, circular, or other non-square sheets of paper. It's also possible to create folds from triangular paper.

The research by my elder students’ group

There is play of a lot of children in the various countries in the world actually. Almost, there is uncommon play which is seen only on the land, too. The life of the living people and a culture are vividly told there by the play which spreads from the old days. The development of the way of playing and the plaything, has close connection to a natural environment.

The chessman which is called "the bay blade" as it came in Itohiki and it adjusted a sesame and a bay sesame came out. There are a lot of a variety of chessmen in the world, too.↓ The sesame of coming in Itohiki ↓ The "BE-" sesame

・ The origin of the bean-bag The bean-bag is play like the juggling. Actually, the bean-bag is not play in Japan and is the play which the people of the nomad around the Black Sea made equal to or more than 3000 years before. To have played with the bone of the sheep is derived from. There is various form such as "SIYAGAI", the bean-bag of the shellfish. The bean-bag in Japan puts adzuki beans in Nuno. Now, it is some play as much as 40 countries of the worlds.
