ORANGA RANGATAHI: WHAT WE AREOranga Rangatahi is:
• Designed for 14-16 year olds
• Led by the community, co-ordinated by Oranga Tamariki
• Involves local iwi and Māori social services
• Focused on prevention
• Supportive of both rangatahi and their whānau
• Maintained by locals who know the rangatahi best
• Voluntary, with young people referred to the programme
• About helping young people achieve better outcomes
• Positive and practical
ORANGA RANGATAHI: OUTCOMES• Reduced offending behaviour reported by Police
• Fewer young people entering the youth justice system
• No siblings of participants involved in youth justice
• Rangatahi are connected with culture
• Stronger connections between parents of rangatahi
• Better relationships between local agencies

ORANGA RANGATAHI: HOW IT WORKS• A young person is referred to the programme
• Barriers to wellbeing are identified
• Needs, risks and strengths assessed
• Plans are developed
Then we:
• Prioritise relational intervention
• Build trust and support young people
• Implement the plan
• Support re-engagement with school and connection to community services and cultural activities that build strength
