Course Objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to: - Identify place and value in numbers from the millions to the thousandths place. - Understand that a digit is 1/10 the value of that same digit in the place to the left. - Understand that a digit is 10 times the value of that same digit in the place to the right. - Add decimals to the hundredths place. - Subtract decimals to the hundredths place. - Multiply decimals to the hundredths place - Write a number in word, standard, and expanded form to the thousandths place Standards: - MGSE5.NBT.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. - MGSE5NBT.3 Read, write, and compare decimals to thousandths. a. Read and write decimals to thousandths using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form, e.g., 347.392 = 3 × 100 + 4 × 10 + 7 × 1 + 3 × (1/10) + 9 x (1/100) + 2 × (1/1000). b. Compare two decimals to thousandths based on meanings of the digits

Read and write decimals to thousandths using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form, e.g., 347.392 = 3 × 100 + 4 × 10 + 7 × 1 + 3 × (1/10) + 9 x (1/100) + 2 × (1/1000). b. Compare two decimals to thousandths based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.

- MGSE5.NBT.4 Use place value understanding to round decimals up to the hundredths place.

- MGSE5.NBT.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.

Course Activities and Assignments:- Discussions: Students will be required to answer the discussion questions that

are related to videos and respond to at least two classmates posts.

- Videos: Students will watch instructional videos each week.

- Projects: Students will create a total of 2 projects. These projects will demonstrate understanding of a standard. Students can choose what tools they will use to demonstrate mastery of the standard.

- Weekly Quizzes: Students will have a quiz every week for a total of 15

- Tests: There will be 2 tests throughout the course. The first test will be week 6. The second test will be week 12. Each test will cover all material taught up to that point of the course.

- Final Exam: The final exam will be on week 18 of the course. It will cover all material covered throughout the course.

Instructor and Student Interactions:The role of the instructor is to provide support. Instructor will respond to emails within 24 hours. Instructor will participate in weekly discussions with students.Students will respond to weekly discussion boards. Students are expected to interact with classmates via discussion boards. Students will check the online course daily. Emails must be responded to within 24 hours. All assignments are expected to be turned in by designated due date.

Academic Honesty:All students are expected to give credit to any sources used for their work. Failure to do so will result in an automatic 70% pending resubmission of assignments. Failure to resubmit assignments or a secondary offense will result in an “F” in the course.The following practices are prohibited: unauthorized material usage, giving/receiving unauthorized assistance, unauthorized attempts to access/access to tests or quizzes, and plagiarism.
