    BrochureDescription:

A brochure created for a fashion and beauty public relations firm.

    Date:December 7th, 2014

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 05Joel JudkinsProgram(s)/Tools:Adobe InDesignAdobe IllustratorAdobe Photoshop

Objectives:Create a brochure design the correctly represents a company and is visually appealingand easy to navigate.

Process:I used the lesson to set up the basic outline of the brochure and then sketched outsome different ideas I had in mind.

I decided to go with a black and white theme to give it a dynamic look and used fewcolors in my images. I then searched for a text that helped express my vision andfound Ostrich. I then looked for a good font the would be complimentary for the bodycopy. I used black and white throughout the design and in my logos. For my logos Iworked in illustrator and used pictures of item to create silhouettes. I used the penand brush tool and the shape tool as well. Once I had my logos I factored in where Iwanted my text, titles, and main images to be and then added in my logos to parts inthe text. After that I used textwrap to wrap the text around my logos.

After that I worked on my clients page by pulling fashion and beauty logos from theinternet and using them to create a brick looking design to represent the companysclients.

Objectives:Create three unique logos for a company that have a clear message and are

    memorable.

Process:I started by messing around with a few different designs on my sketchpad. I thenused illustrator to design the three logos. I wanted to keep it simple. I used the fontsto add some contrast to the designs. I also used the shape tool for the star and the pentool for the cupcake as well as the brush tool. I relied a lot on typography to help thedesigns. Also I wanted to try and make my bottom logo something a little differentfor a cupcake shop and went for a different color scheme and design.

Objectives:Using a personally designed logo create business card with matching letterhead.

Process:I drew the logo out using the pen tool, brush tool, and simple shapes in AdobeIllustrator. On my business card page I tried to keep it uniform with the let-terhead. I brought over the logo and letterhead and adjusted their size and lay-out a little for the front of the card. On the back I took just the cupcake fromthe main logo and brought down its opacity and added lines on either side.

LetterheadDescription:A letterhead made up with a personally designed logo. Made to matchthe business card.Date:November 8th, 2014

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 05Joel JudkinsProgram(s)/Tools:Adobe IllustratorAdobe InDesign

Objectives:Using a personally designed logo to create a letterhead and matching businesscard.

Process:I drew the logo out using the pen tool, brush tool, and simple shapes in AdobeIllustrator. I decided to decide to start with my letter head and used a full-bleed by placing my logo in the upper left-hand corner and having two paral-lel running horizontally and vertically from it. I made the owners name 14pt

font to contrast with the 10pt contact information. I used a simplified ver-sion of the logo as the watermark and brought it up to a bigger proportion.

MontageDescription:A montage made to inspire and show spirituality.

    Date:October 25th, 2014

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 05Joel JudkinsProgram(s)/Tools:Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:To meld images to gether to create a montage with a spiritual message.

Process:I went over several ideas and worked on rough drafts of multiple ones be-fore settling on the design above. I cropped my background image to 8.511.I opened the image of the little girl in a new photoshop tab and used thelasso tool to select her and brought her into the project. With black paintand a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard image edg-es. With a larger black brush at 40% opacity I blended the edges of thegirl into the background. I decided to stick with just one font type on this

project and used a script font to include the lyrics of my favorite hymn.

Event AdDescription:An event ad created to advertise a local bake sale.

    Date:October 11th, 2014

    Course/Instructor:

    Comm 130 Section 05Joel JudkinsProgram(s)/Tools:Microsoft Word

Objectives:Create a flyer to advertise an event and to fit the theme.

Process:I started by brainstorming ideas and sketching out a few different things. I scannedin the two pictures from Better Homes & Gardens. I used Microsoft Word to startputting together my sketch on the computer. I added the bow in the middle to adda little repetition with the bow on the cupcake, and I thought it made a good focalpoint. I also used the cut out of the cake on top to help draw the eye downward andthen used the lines of the ribbon to give the design some unique shape. I broughtover the logo and letterhead and adjusted their size and layout a little for the front

of the card. On the back I took just the cupcake from the main logo and broughtdown its opacity and added lines on either side.

    WebpageDescription:

A webpage made to compliment a cupcake business and match the stationary andbusiness cards.Date:November 22nd, 2014

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 05Joel JudkinsProgram(s)/Tools:Adobe IllustratorHTMLCSSNotepad ++

    Objectives:

Write code for a website to design to create an appealing and working website.

Process:I created this web page using Notepad ++. My very little experience with html hadcome from Myspace before this project and Id never worked with CSS. I startedby using some of the starting code provided and then worked with what BrotherJudkins had taught us and looked at internet tutorials if I was ever confused. I firstwrote my html code and tagged and indented it correctly. Then I validated it usingan online program.

After that I attached the provided CSS document to my html document andstarted working on the visual formatting of the page in CSS. I used the eye-dropper tool in Photoshop to determine what hex colors were in my logo andthen used those colors in my webpage. I matched my header font to the font inmy logo and then went with a simple old style font to compliment the scriptof the heading and logo. I then messed around on CSS with borders, back-grounds, and padding until the page had enough space and the look I wanted.

FlierDescription:A flier designed to advertise a graduate leadership conference.

    Date:October 5th, 2014

    Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 05

    Joel JudkinsProgram(s)/Tools:Adobe InDesign

Objectives:Take information previously given to you and create a design to advertise aconference.

Process:I drew out my sketches first. Then I went to the lab and played around withtwo of my sketch ideas before settling on the one I liked best. I used lineson the side for repetition and tried to have the title be the focal point of thedesign. I did this by making it the darkest font on the page and the boldestto give contrast. I tried to overlay the date and time with the image and gaveample white space to try and keep the design simple. I was given the image, logo, and content for this flier.
