The community todaycan be no single tradition; it is the planet. Daily the world grows smaller, leavingunderstanding the only place where peace can find a home. We are not prepared forthe annihilation of distance that science has effected. Who today stands ready toaccept the solemn equality of peoples ? Who does not have to fight an unconscioustendency to equate foreign with inferior ? Some of us have survived this bloodiest ofcenturies; but if its ordeals are to be birth pangs rather than death throes, the century’sscientific advances must be matched by comparable advances in human relations.Those who listens work for peace, a peace built not on ecclesiastical or politicalhegemonies but on understanding and mutual concern.
