《联合早报》- 24 November 2013 (Newspaper – date)

Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, being one of the 12 schools piloting the Subject Based Banding initiative, held their Open House on 23 November 2013. It was believed that this initiative became a selling point to parents and students.

When interviewed, Mr Abdul Mannan, Principal of Ang Mo Kio Secondary School said for the past a week, the school had received calls pertaining to Subject Based Banding. Parents are concerned with the qualifying criteria and will the child be able join the programme mid-way. This flexibility in subject offering is believed to be able to attract the parents whose child in the normal stream, especially those who stayed in the vicinity. This School Open House provides a platform for parents to find out more about the initiative and clarify their doubts.

Mr Mannan expressed that the students from the Normal Academic stream are generally stronger in their Mother Tongue, thus more will be eligible to take subject at a higher level. Hence, he believed these students can form a class on its’ own.

A parent, Mrs Tan, who went for Ang Mo Kio Open House said that other than knowing the environment of the school, through the interaction with the teachers and AMKsians, she is able to see how the school hold functions and understand the quality of the school.
