Special Education Programs

The Diocesan Department of Special Education is pleased to announce the expansion of special-needs programming throughout the diocese.

With a mission of Faith Formation, Individual Development, and Preparation for the Future, the Diocesan Department of Special Education will not only be offering a Program for Exceptional Students, but also Dyslexia Lab services for regular education students. Exceptionalities served will include (but are not necessarily limited to) Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Specific Learning Disability, Other Health Impairment, and Developmental Delay.

Limited space is available. Interested applicants should visit csobr.org or call 336-8735. There is also a link on the homepage for those interested in making a donation to this most worthy endeavor.

Whatever your interest level in the program, please keep it in your prayers.

Adoration Chapel April 5th, 1992; 24 years ago, our Daily and Perpetual Chapel of Adoration was blessed. The following year on March 28, 1993 Perpetual Adoration began. Some time this month make an intentional plan to visit your Chapel and give thanks to our God who has humbled Himself in the form of bread to be close and available to us anytime of the day or night. We need only avail ourselves before His Holy Presence. Surely in the span of a week there is something we all can be thank-ful for that is worth spending 1 hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Visit today, experience His peace, become an adorer. Call the parish office, 647-8461, for more information.

A Vocation View

Peter made a choice to return to his old job before Jesus stepped back into his life. Is God calling you out of your comfort zone and away from your profession to follow his as a priest, brother, or sister? If God is calling you, call or email Fr. Matt Dupre at 225.336.8778, [email protected] or visit www.diobr.org/vocations.

Please welcome these children to St. Mark Parish

through the sacrament of Baptism. Let us pray for their continued

spiritual growth.

YEAR OF MERCY: MORE WAYS TO BE MERCIFUL

Practicing mercy in our lives actually does take practice.

The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” He heard this and said, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.” Matt, 9: 11-13

God, who is merciful, desires our mercy. Each month we will offer ways to keep to mercy during the Jubilee Year. Try randomly selecting one each week and putting it into practice. Be creative!

23) Offer to drive an elderly person to Mass. 24) Recall a time you were not given the benefit of the doubt, and extend one to someone else. 25) Put down the phone and really listen to someone else. With eye contact. 26) Have alternative drinks, other than water, for times when those who have been struggling with alcohol come to visit. 27) Take advantage of sales to buy small toothpastes, soaps, shampoos, socks and feminine products/toiletries; donate them to parish outreaches or make gift bags and have them ready to hand out where needed. 28) Create a short end-of-day ritual to ask for (and extend) forgiveness with those you live with. “Do not let the sun set on your anger” (Eph. 4:26). 29) Make a list of your “enemies.” Then, every day, say a prayer for them. 30) Make a point to smile, greet or make conversation with someone who is not in your everyday circle.

First Reading — Brought before the Sanhedrin, the apostles give witness to Jesus Christ. (Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41).

Psalm — I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me (Psalm 30). Second Reading — In his vision John sees all in heaven and on earth give honor and glory to the one on the throne and to the Lamb (Revelation 5:11-14). Gospel — Jesus appears to the disciples by the sea of Tiberias (John 21:1-19 [1-14]).

REDEMPTION Do you remember Peter on the night Jesus was arrested? He claimed he had never heard of Jesus. Today we are called to join Peter in testifying to the name of Jesus as he does in the first reading, and in proclaiming our love for him as Peter

does in the Gospel passage. The powerful imagery of John’s vision in the second reading from the book of Revelation shows us the company we keep when we have faith in the name of Jesus. We join all living creatures, “countless in number” from “heaven, earth, under the earth, in the sea; everything in the universe” (Revelation 5:11, 13). The dignity and majesty described in each reading are in stark contrast to the dark and pitiful image of Peter and the other apostles at the time of Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion. What a relief that we can all be redeemed so completely!Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. .
